U.P. Monday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

U.P. Monday

Postby Colliemom » Mon Dec 10, 2012 8:30 am

Good Morning everyone,

Where's everybody this morning? Al sleeping in probably. Getting worn out from those pre Christmas doings and shopping and so forth, or maybe some of you are digging out from under a pile of snow. I know Barbie really got clobbered over in MN. Here we als got some, but not that much, judging from what I can see out my winder, I would say maybe an inch. Haven't been out for our morning walk yet so don't really know.

But it is cold here. Not so much temp wise as it's in the mid 20's, but it's a differnt type cold. Deep, sharp and dry. This area is in the Huron Mt. range area, high elevation for this part of MI and also under the influence of Lake Superior. The cold is born of the expanse of the big lake, plus the fact of the elevation, highest point in MI at over 1,400 feet is just about 25-30 miles by way the crow flies from here and miles and miles of cliffs, rock and rugged terrain. All holding in that cold. Invigorating though.

Hard to believe this is day 3 already . Been busy the past couple of days with getting up here, unpacking, organizing, doing some shopping, out walking etc. Haven't decorated as yet but do have my LED candles in the window of hte kitchen. Will probably do some today. Dogs are bugging me to get out and go for a walk. Sheesh, it's just gettig daylight and they have been out about 3 times already this morning  Wish you coud have seen Ms. Tessa yesterday. She was trotting along the road out here and barking just for the pure joy of barking I guess. So enjoying it here.

So nice to have internet access this time. Right now I have a good 4 bars but it will die down a little later. Owner told me that it usually goes down a bit by later morning and will come back up again in the later afternoon and sometimes around mid day. Small cable company so big demand I guess. Fine by me. And thanks for the suggestions about setting up another email account. I don't have a problem with emails other than being here right now. Problem is cause my email address goes through cable system and that's not accessible unless I am in an area where Charter Communications is. Out here they are not. But emails for me are not a big deal as I don't get that many. I can receive them here, I just can't sent them out. So I will do that next time I go to town Right now i will leave my email address as is since I am not out anyplace else with my computer except here. But later if I venture down the road, then I will. All of my bills are on ebilling and I am not in the mood for changing all that. Although I have often thought about setting up a gmail or hotmail account to use just for emails and even then, just to send them out rather than receive them.

I see Dawn is still moving along. Hopefully no bad weather from this latest storm front moving across the country. Everybody else seems to be into day to day routines. Need to spend some time catching up on here.

Am going to end this and head on out. Get cleaned up, dressed in some warm duds and out the door we go for an inviorating morning walk. Going to make some beef stew in the crockpot and put some biscutis in the oven later this afternoon for tonights dinner. Good warm soul food for a cold winter's day. Have a wonderful day all.

Good morning Sue and all to follow. It sounds so nice in the U.P. not so nice in MN. It is cooler here this AM. HI 46, low 30 with cold north winds blowing with 25mph gusts. Maybe a good day to initiate the fireplace :P DH had a cord of firewood delivered...so time to start using it.

I did finished my Christmas shopping using my iPad while watching football last night. I'm tired of the traffic, crowds and rude people. Santa (Amazon) wraps it for you and puts in the mail :P

Does anyone remember when you saw someone walking along talking to the themselves, you knew they were mentally ill or had a real problem?? Now, you see them walking along talking and not holding a phone to their head, you just assume they have a blue tooth device and talking on their cell phone. So now the mentally ill, those with problems just blend in with the rest of the crowd. Interesting!?

Happy Chanukah. The Festival of Lights Dec 8-16. Chanukah -- the eight-day festival of light that celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, of purity over adulteration, of spirituality over materiality. A great reminder for all people.

Hope all have a great day and stay warm and safe. Aloha y'all

Goodmorning gals from cold snowy Minnesnowta! Wasn't able to take photos this morning due to dead battery in my camera. Will try later when it gets charged back up.

The sun is out and surprisingly no wind that they had predicted. But cold at 12 degrees right now. Very pretty tho with everything covered in white glistening snow.

I used my 4 wheel drive all the way to work and back yesterday and it worked well, considering they didn't plow the roads much. Hopefully, they did a better job overnight and this morning. Will find out when I head to work later on today.

Sue, sounds like you have a nice cozy little place to stay for the month! Take pics!

Hope you all have a great day!

GOOD MORNING TO ALL!

I am now back in Orlando at my house after a rather eery drive through some very heavy fog from St. Cloud. We are forecast to get some rain today, and that would be wonderful as things are so dry here.....and it's a good day to just sit and practice my fiddle and my guitar, actually. Dinah is outside tied to the palm tree in the front, and Molly is asleep at my feet. I miss the temperature I used to have in the corner of my computer....guess I will try to get it back.

I sure do hope Publix pharmacy gets Dinah's phenobarbital this afternoon, as we are now donw to just two doses. I am still not sure she even needs any of them, but seizures scare me, so I will obey! As I think I mentioned, it was at least 6 months between episodes last time, if the first time was even a seizure.

I guess that Barbie got more snow than Sue did from the overnight snowstorm------can't wait to see some pictures from you two up in the hinterlands! I definitely miss snow at Christmas time----and cross-country skiing.

I guess I will vacuum today for my chore duty, and then practice some music to try to get my finger callouses built up for the campout in January. I hope you all are having a fun time wherever you may be.
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Good morning all. Sue, sounds like you are settling right in at your vacation spot. Glad to hear the girls are having a good time. You don't have to close your other email account, I have a hotmail account and a gmail account. When I buy something I use hotmail as I don't like all the additional things some places keep sending you after you have made a purchase.

Like the weatherman promised, winter arrived here last night, it has been so warm all fall hasn't really seemed like December. It went from 59 to the twenties during the night. Barbie I bet you are really feeling the cold after being in sunny California! Be careful driving!! I told Toby he should be glad he got to move to Illinois where it is warmer! Soos if it snows here I'll send it down!

I agree Red, I love Amazon and hate going to the malls especially. A few weeks ago I returned something to Amazon, took it to the UPS store a little before 11:00AM and by 8:00PM that night had a credit in my account! Now that is fast service!!!

I don't have anything planned to do today and it is dreary outside so may have to do housework ACK

Chilly morning here, too, but we'll be nice and warm later. We're losing our warm weather later this week and supposed to be 20 degrees colder than we should be...down to the 50's and low 60's. Rain, too, which we need. Just hoping it warms up for New Years at Glamis.

Not much going on here, just the usual. Yesterday was DH's birthday so that was kind of a bummer. Saturday night was my jeep clubs Christmas party and that was a lot of fun catching up with everyone. My sister called yesterday and told me they would be coming for a visit next weekend. She lives near Snowflake, Az so I don't see her very often. She enjoys telling me what I should and should not be doing and I enjoy telling her to take a flying leap. It works for us. I ride motorcycles, quads and the RZR, she rides horses. I've never hurt myself on the bike and she's had, so far, a broken jaw, broken fingers, broken foot, broken arm and I couldn't tell you how many pulled muscles, bruises and contusions. And she thinks what I do is dangerous??? I told her she needed to trade in her hayburners for a gas burner!

Guess I had better get busy and clean house since I have company coming. Hope everyone has a great and safe day!

It hurts me to see this group splintered more by the new FB "morning coffee" group. Lots posted there this morning that didn't come here as normal. Sad to see that ... and I'm sure they won't like my posting about it, but it's how I feel. Hope you all come back here and continue sharing - then go there if you want ... but don't forget what started it all.

Glad to wake up another day - cold this morning, but sunny and beautiful now. Birds have finally discovered my bird feeder the last couple days, so I went and bought more bird food - as they will be emptying it much faster. Amazing, though, how much longer the food lasts when there are no squirrels stealing from it!

It was great getting together with Ava again yesterday - hopefully will get my blog post updated with where we went/what we did later today. Maybe tomorrow ... hahaha

Have a great day everyone.

That saddens me for a lot of reasons but one is I can't access FB at work so it's nice to catch up with everyone here in one place. Even if I could access FB, it takes too long to scroll through my feeds.

I am not a big Morning Coffee poster so I guess I shouldn't complain :? .....but I do read it. I will miss getting to know some folks if they wander off but everyone uses their time and resources individually. I don't spend much time on FB and didn't realize that some folks had shifted their morning routines.

From my other experiences on FB....I just don't think FB has the flow to capture conversations as well. My experience come by several English Cocker Spaniel FB Groups that are much harder to follow than the ECS forum.

I'm curious about the driving force in starting a new and private group.
Aren't the posts going to be duplicates of those here?
Or will those women just post on FB and not here?

And what Tina said is so true - FB just doesn't allow the "flow" that is allowed here. Pictures would be a big example.

Barbie, thanks for the pictures of the snow but don't send any snow. Be careful driving in that mess. The weather channel likes to show the bumper cars in the snow and ice. The rain and thunder woke me up about 5 this morning. I think most of the rain has passed and it will get colder tonight. I hope it's only cold for a few days and back to the 70's.

Sharon, I like your relationship with your sister. I seldom tell my sister anything but would sure like to sometimes. I was lucky with the horses, only bruises and abrasions. I got thrown some and trampled once but I was a teenager. I'm afraid if I hit the ground now I wouldn't bounce. My DH got hurt enough for several people, broken shoulder, 2 legs broken at different times and almost every rib broken several times.

I was cleaning out my motorhome so I could take it to get serviced . I read the mileage on the sticker wrong and I have another 1,000 miles to go before it needs service. Maybe I should have gotten new glasses when I went to the doctor. The 2 kittens I took camping this summer are so spoiled. If I open the door to the motorhome they load up. Wish I had room to travel with a kennel and a litter box. They would sure like to go camping.
