This sounds like a good plan for you both. I hope Miss Abby heals quickly. Hugs to you both. Linda

Great idea for tricking furry ones into thinking they are getting treats rather than just dinners!

Molly has always had an extremely sensitive digestive system, too, so she can have JUST the foods that I have discovered she can tolerate. Others who haven't believed me have fed "other stuff" just once and they quickly learned how sensitive her gut is!

Soos, does she poo or vomit or both? And how much does it take - just a tiny bit according to Abby's vet.
When she gets something she shouldn't, does she have adverse reactions once, or more?

How did you discover what she can tolerate?

I just spent $45 at the pet store on non-edible things - like an antler and various nylabones.
She hates them all.

Luckily I began using Purina Little Bites after trying other dry foods that I found she couldn't tolerate, as Little Bites is readily available and relatively inexpensive. And she both poops and pukes when her stomach is irritated----wonderful when on the road! Chicken is also a very powerful puke-initiator for Molly, too. Often she will go out first thing in the morning, when her stomach is empty, and eat grass until she pukes----especially if I don't remember to feed her before this ritual, or if I sleep too late. Then, she will usually crave her breakfast a while after the puking. But when she is severely irritated, I can give her only tiny sips of water to keep her hydrated. I have also found that she loves and tolerates very well the Wild food brand sold at Tractor stores, or whatever they are called----especially the salmon one. I began mixing that with Little Bites last year while down here, but we have no tractor supply stores back home. I think I may start giving her some of that again while I can get it. It is very expensive, but has wonderfully nutritious stuff in it. Molly can't have any bones or chewy things that she can eat, and eat them she will. They are devastating to her gut! I forget what it was that my daughter slipped to her on our trip back home while camping at a KOA, but she never tried that again! (Perhaps some chicken)

I used to have a German Shepherd who was poisoned as a pup, and sometimes all he could get down and keep down was a tiny bit of raw hamburger and boiled white rice. He had digestive disorders for the rest of his life. The vet at the time recommended the hamburger/rice diet, and it really helped him.

A bag of that Wild food stuff from Tractor Supply would probably last Abby a loooong time, so might be worth a try. Perhaps they might have a "safe" chewy toy she would like, too. Dinah destroys ALL toys by desqueaking them, even those with no stuffing, and then leaves them for a new one with squeakers! Sigh----luckily I have tons of toys I have bought Molly through the years as she just plays with them and does NOT destroy them!

Watch your company closely and have reminders everywhere NOT to feed Abby anything! Most people think, "Just a taste couldn't hurt!" WRONG!

Soos, is it Taste of the Wild food? That is what my neighbor told me about for my cat. Am going to try it for both cat and dog.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Boy, don't I know that. I told someone on the trip to AK that Abby REALLY freaks out when her head is covered by a blanket or sheet or such. Couple of days later, this person told me, "She didn't freak out at all." What killed me is that this person even tried!

Then I told a neighbor that Abby doesn't like to be picked up. I was watching this neighbor in my bedroom with Abby on the bed. Neighbor went to grab for Abby to pick her up (I was watching) as Abby was trying to get away. Neighbor told me, "She asked to be picked up." Again, what killed me is that she even tried and then liked about it (she didn't know I was watching). (Now Abby won't go near her!)

Nope, I trust no one with my dog - I used to think just kids. I no longer think that.

If anyone is going to abuse my dog, it's gonna be me.
Speaking of which, I need to go give her, her daily thrashing.

YES, Taste of the Wild is what it is! Thanks for jogging my brain, Barbie! I need to go get some, come to think of it-----after I get the phenobarbitol prescription filled.
