Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and so glad that I have found it. I am in the process of purchasing my first RV and hope to find some very useful information here from all of you more seasoned travelers. I live in Houston, TX and am planning to take my maiden voyage in March. I will be traveling to Oregon. I am an adventurous single woman but mature enough to know my limits. (I think!) I am holding back on my selection of a motorhome until I know for sure what will suit my needs. I plan to be a full timer so I have chosen, as the one I like the best...a 31' 7" Fleetwood Tioga Ranger Class C motorhome. If any of you have any suggestions regarding this class, size, brand, etc., I would love to hear them. I know I would be able to get around easier in a smaller one but feel I need the extra room if I will be in it full time. Now that I'm here on this site, I will read the other topics and see what everyone else is driving/living in.

I am so excited to start this new adventure.

Welcome, Judy. Glad to have you with us. Size needed is so different for all of us. Many like the size you're looking at ... and they drive pretty much the same from my size 22' to the one you're looking at. You just have to be aware of your turning ratio and how wide you need to be.

Lots of good ladies on here and everyone will chime in to greet you - AND we're full of opinions. Remember, in most cases we give our opinions - that doesn't mean they are facts, especially about the right type of rig, size, etc.

Welcome Judy from another Texan (Kerrville). As for size I fulltimed in a 30' Gulfstream class C for three years and just this year came off the road fulltime and bought a Roadtrek van. If you are going to fulltime in a bigger rig you will probably need to tow a car. Hope to see you down the road.

Welcome aboard....if you can read back through the threads you will find several places where many of us spill our guts as to the how and whys of our choices. There are benefits and drawback from all decisions and only you know which issues are deal breakers for yourself. Where and how you want to travel and where you want to stay are different for many of us. As you read through you will find those that full-time in class B Road Treks and those that drive big class A.....No matter what you may decide many of the issues and roadblocks that we scale to get out on the road and exploring our dreams are similar. Stepping up and admitting that the dreams are possible is the first step. May you enjoy the journey....even these first "miles" of decisions, decisions, decisions......

Welcome to the forum from another Texan. I'm in the NW Houston area

There are several Texans that are on this forum as well. I asked a similar question of all these wonderful ladies back in May. They were wonderful with their opinions and advice. If you look through the threads you will find a wealth of Information. My husband and I were trying to decide between MH or 5th wheel. Everyone freely gave their opinion. As of Oct we now have an RV and have taken just 2 trips so far and looking forward to hitting the road again in January

Remember no question is too small or dumb

Welcome to the Forum. I think the Fleetwood Tioga Ranger is what Judy JB, one of our members, bought this year. I think you would be interested in her posts about her motorhome.

I agree with Martha. Another Judy has that same Class C, I think. And it's really nice inside.

Which dealership are you working with? And Houston has its RV show in February but it sounds like you may want yours before then.

Thank you everyone for the nice welcome. Now I'm trying to navigate this site. I posted to Judy JB...hope it went through. That would be good for me to talk to someone else who it sounds like has the same motor home I am wanting to buy.

Looks like there are several Texans here. I live in Conroe, right next to The Woodlands. The dealership I am working with is Holiday World and it is over an hour away in Katy. I am actually waiting now for this particular motor home to come in. It is on order. I do not need one until March but of course I am anxious to get it soon so I can experiment with some of the RV parks around here before I set out on such a long trip. My plan is to spend 6 months in Oregon, traveling the West Coast. I have a daughter and her family there and decided this is a better thing....having an RV to stay in rather than stay with them that length of time. Two teenaged boys...no thanks. Been there, done that.

Welcome Judy. If you are around Houston, have you checked ppl motorhomes? They have some pretty sweet used ones. Just a thought unless you are set on buying new. And if you are going to be full time,I have a rig that would perfect for full time...which was my goal at one point in time but seems the universe has other plans for me. Look under the trading post section. It's a 2007 allegro bay Fred with just over 20k miles on it.

I usually head to that area in the summer as my son lives there. I usually deliver his daughter to spend the summer with him (she lives with me). Stayed at rayfords crossing one summer and then last summer I stayed over in Spring. It was pretty close to where the son lives so worked out good for me.

You will find lots of good information here and lots of different opinions!

Welcome, Judy...

Ernie & I full time in a Open Range 5th wheel which we got last yr....we've been on the road for 8 yrs....but the Class C you are looking at is about the size we are considering in about 5-6 yrs. as our next RV....so it's a good choice.....Picking a RV is really a personal choice....it's like buying a house....when you see it, you'll know it's the right one for you....

Judy - there are lots of good places to camp around Houston. Huntsville sites are somewhat small - it's an older state park - but I have seen Class A's there. There's a COE park on Lake Conroe - don't remember the name of it. Then one of my favorite parks is Brazos Bend State Park near Needville. And there is Stephen F. Austin State Park at Sealy.

Welcome from WA. Some of us are going to be at Beverly Beach state Park in OR next May. I will be there from the 8th to the 14th. We plan to go whale watching if the weather permits. You are more than welcome to join us if you are going to be in the area at that time.
