Just yesterday I visited my credit union because the new atm card that came in the mail had a MasterCard logo on it. Previously I just had atm access only - couldn't charge. I insisted they give me one without the credit card (which I certainly don't need). I used my debit/credit card from my bank a week or so ago and the purchase went directly to credit without a signature, without a pin number. Had the same thing happen at a store one time. I thought perhaps it didn't matter which way it was taken out - debit or credit - since they both come off immediately, but it does matter! You need the pin number to debit. I was shocked to learn I didn't need any security anything to use it as credit. A crook could use it very easily if the card were to be stolen.
Now I'm going to go examine all my cards to see if I have a "hidden" chip! Yikes!
