Tuesday making pie

Good morning! No I didn't get my "yew" key fixed--it took me a few extra seconds to get that "Tewsday" in the s-bject line. Fownd I had "th-rsday" with a real "yew" in it, in the memory, so made it into "Tewsday." Life withowt "yew" is so hard! I even find myself talking withowt yewsing my yewsyewal (if yew can decipher that word, yew are really on top of this!) "yew" words! Example: Instead of saying "shirley," I now say "certainly." Yew get my drift! Glad yore all getting a kick owt of this!!! Oh well... Was on tech & maint this a.m. & got more info on the water heater tank! On my list of things to do today! Will make one pomkin pie today too. In telling y'all my tomato saga, did I mention that I grew pompkins! Only got 3 this year (only one plant thrived) bt they're as big as basketballs! So, homemade pie from homegrown pompkins!!!! Last year, I had 6 basketball size & made tons of pompkin breads/m-ffins etc, bt pie is my favorite! Sis & BIL are on their way from IL to be here later today. They stay with an ant (not an insect) bt will be here tomorrow for pie-making with me & bro. Yep, we'll have laffs over "mom" memories too ("mom"ories!!!), & probably shed a few tears too--either missing her or laffing at her! She'd be laffing with -s too! Carol, you are a hoot! Reading your post this morning is an absolyewte hoot. You are so creative with words considering you can't use your "yew".

And Red, reading your post about the forgotten package of turkey innards at your one Thanksgiving feast, well, the only thing I cold say to that one too was I can just picture the scene. Reminded me of the time when we went and picked cherries and the lady at the orchard told mom that freezing them with the pits actually was better cause it kept the juices in the cherries and they tasted better. Just remember to pit them before using them. Well, we had company coming up for a couple of weeks, my parents best friends. Mom made a cherry pie for dessert one night and well, you guessed it. Forgot to take out the pits That was one hilarious pie eating episode that night.

House cleaning day here this morning. Comapny coming in late tomorrow, but want to go to gym class in the morning. Got to work out before adding the extra "holiday pounds" Will make my pie tomorrow and also soup for supper tomorrow night. Just keeping it simple and easy for tomorrow. Going to have soup, salad and bread for dinner. Nothing big and heavy. Turkey will be in oven early on Thursday so we can have early dinner. They are leaving after dinner to finish their trip to northern WI for Friday. No "Black Friday" shopping for us. I may go out but not till later. No Christmas shopping to do in this house.

Soos, sounds like your MiFi is working great for you. I'm glad. Now you can keep in touch wherever you are. I might invest in one of them eventually when I am out more and need the service but so far I am happy with my cable here and most places I've gone have WiFi, so no problem.

Went into Photobucket last night to Upload a picture. First time I have been there since they changed the whole thing. All I can say is I finally figured out how to get my picture into my "Library" as they now call it, but still have to figure out how to get it over to this forum. Anybody been there, done that yet?

Carol, we wouldn't know it was yew if yew starting putting real yews in your posts... hope you have fun making pies today - yes, laughter must be a huge part of any get together.
Red, I laughed out loud as I read your post - looks like we each have our own wealth of thanksgiving day calamities which will live on forever in our cherished family memories. And Sue I can just imagine those first bites into your mom's homemade cherry pie!

Decided I'm going to get my mega-van out of storage tomorrow for the weekend - my baby bro is in town & I'd like him to see it - plus I miss it. His fiance told me they pegged a 'date' for next Aug. I'm so excited - mind you, he's 48 & never been married. I'm thinking of driving up to the wedding - from KC - Samish Island, WA (nearly 2,000 miles) then down to see my son & DIL in LA (approx 1200 miles), then back home (1600 miles).. (total 4800) Hate that I have to schedule this journey while I'm still working - hoping 3 weeks will be enough time without being too stressed. Curious as to what some of you more seasoned RVers think about this. Am I nuts?

Well, need to get to work - this 'morning coffee' is becoming habit forming.

Carolb, I love the "yews" too. Have gotten were my mind automatically translates and have no problems figuring out what yew are saying.

Red, I loved your post of the paper still in the turkey. I liked getting to watch you tell me about it even better. I really liked the tour of your place. I liked DH's palm trees in the back yard and the huge old oak tree. It is so nice that we are both so comfortable with each other that you can still be in your nightgown and me without my bottom teeth in. So far, poor Zeee has been the only one who has had to see me pop them out without thinking because they were bothering me. I love FaceTalk! I've moved Zeee's toaster seat so now if I am in the kitchen, everyone gets to sit on the counter. That seems a little more normal for a kitchen chat between friends. We're here till Friday, so if you decide to jump in the car for a good drive, you are always welcome.

Zeee, you definitely need to kick Mr. Murphy to the curb. Do you have your car back yet? if not, how are you getting around? Sorry I was so incommunicado yesterday. As you know, it was a really bad day yesterday and you didn't need to watch me cry all day. So far, today feels like it is going to be a better day. We have planned to make today laundry day so will head into town to do that. We also saw a sign for a museum, so we want to explore that while we are in town.

Catherine - I'm planning a trip to the Grand Canyon lasting 2 weeks and that will be around 2500 miles round trip, not counting any side trips. It will take me 3 days just to get to AZ if we don't do any lollygagging along the way (2 days to get out of TX).

Last day to work this week then flying out to Atlanta tomorrow. Almost think I would rather drive - have done that the last 2 Christmases.

Good Morning to All = it is still cloudy and a little cool here in Huatabampito on the beach. In fact last night it was darn right cold. Bill wanted to get the heater out and turn it on. NO WAY - so he went to bed to read under the covers instead.
We've had a couple of busy days -had a flat on the jeep, went to the big flea market, got churros - all in my last blog post - and yesterday was a holiday with a parade and all kinds of things going on in town. still have to write that up.
It is funny how the mind reads what it thinks it sees. Talking about the yew. No problem reading the posts. But I think writing them would be a challange.
All the talk about Thanksgiving makes me wonder about my memories. yso don't really remember any big dinners. When my dad got back from the army service - they took a plumber and turned him into a baker - he would bake the most delicious pumpkin pies. but not for occasions. Just because we liked them. Then when I married Bill - he was born in Argentina so of course didn't have Thanksgiving. Also Thanksgiving weekend was the last weekend of the year that we had any free time so we usually took the kids out to the desert camping (in a motorhome) so we had hotdogs or hamburgers. Bill either worked for a jeweler or we had our own store so from Thanksgiving weekend till after New Years he was hardly ever home. Worked 7 days a week and until late at night. Including Christmas Eve. so we never really set up any traditions. Now our kids live scattered all over.
Thank you Liz for info on the bird. Will try to get more pics of it.

Good morning all. Slept late this morning. Thank you, Tyler A little foggy out this AM. Love all the memories. Does anyone remember Polyanna?? Remember "the Glad Game". Well, instead of being blue because I won't have family with me for the holidays and my life situation is different than I thought it would be, etc.... I find a funny memory like the turkey fiasco to remember and it makes me happy!! Finding the good things to be happy about and be thankful for. One thing I am thankful for is this forum....a safe place to express your feelings.

I'm headed outside to pick pecans off the ground, shell and roast them. Two years ago I made my first pecan pie and DHs kids said it was really good, so I'm going to attempt to duplicate those results Asked DH what foods does he like for Thanksgiving. He said desert Seriously. He doesn't like Turkey or any of the sides, except mashed potatoes. So it'll be pecan pie, peach cobbler and pumpkin pie. maybe mashed potato pie

Red - you roast your pecans before baking them in the pie? We just use fresh pecans, most of them chopped up with a few halves to make it look pretty.

Yes, I was told that was very important. Just zap in the micro for a bit. Then they don't absorb moisture from the pie filling and stay crispy. I fill the whole pie crust with whole roasted pecans and pour the filling on, then bake.

Red, I like your idea for Thanksgiving. My DH would just as soon go out to eat but eating out on a holiday is just too crazy. And no leftovers.

Catherine, I got a wild hair one year and drove from Louisiana to Seattle. Which was about 5,000 miles round trip. About all I had time to do was drive and only got to spend 3 days with my son before I had to start home. If you divide 4,800 miles by 300 miles per day that is 16 days. I can drive 500 miles for a couple of days but each day it gets harder to drive that long. You will pass by things that you would like to see but you won't have time. I don't know what mileage your van gets but it won't be a cheap trip. It won't give you much visiting time.

Well, better go work on getting the ants out of my Ficus tree. I keep watering it and spraying the ants that leave but there are still a lot of ants. The spray says not to spray plants. I will have to put it in the old house if we have a freeze because I can't bring all those ants in the house.
