Too Small Air Compressor & Too Big Tires

Postby Dawn309 » Thu Nov 15, 2012 7:03 pm

You all would have been laughing at me today. After I moved "stuff" around to try to equalize my weight, I went to the Michelin charts to see what air pressures I should have in all my tires. 90 psi in each of the back axle tires. That was 4 tires all with about 84 psi of pressure in them. I had bought an air compressor with 110 psi max thinking it would be big enough. No such luck! It took an hour to get all 4 tires up to the 90 psi. The front tires should have 80 psi and they have 84 also. That is OK. Learned it is OK to be a little over, but never under. Since Chuck wanted me to have an air compressor with me, I will have to get a heavier duty one. Will give this one to Paul.  He doesn't have to have as much pressure in his tires as I do.

I did crawl under my rig and fixed the light under the stairs so it comes on now. I am tired. Told Mom when she gets hungry she has a TV dinner in the freezer still. I may just have a bowl of cereal for supper tonight. Definitely don't want to mess with cooking tonight. One day I hope to be able to do the biggest part of my own maintenance. I get closer every day. Chuck would be so proud of me.

Not to be a know it all, Dawn, but you might check around the drivers seat or door, there should be a chart that tells you what the manufacturer recommends for tire pressure depending on your axle weight. A lot of times it's different than what the tire manu calls for, and you should go by what the coach manu calls for. As far as your air compressor, you need a minimum of 25# differental. If your tire pressure is 90 you need at minimum a 125# compressor and 150# would be ideal. Of course, they may have told you differently at your class and you should go by what they told you.
Anyway, that's what my rv and tire guys tell me.

Rock on, Dawn.

I almost only, merely watched, my husband deal with our tire pressure ordeal (discovered our tires were half what they were supposed to be while on our maiden voyage after purchasing and we weren't quite ready to handle such a thing- lots of going and regoing to the parts stores for things to get it done).

I think and hope I gain some inspiration from you girls and this forum to do some things on my own. 8-)

Gena - you can do it! And if I waited for Mark to do everything, I would still be waiting.
