Judy - I did an overnight in a park in MS that was down close to the coast and actually in a small town, but still in the pine trees. Now I had done a tour of the campground because they let me choose my sight and I knew where the other campers were. But I discovered water coming out my trailer when I hooked up the water supply - I wasn't able to do a thorough job of trouble shooting so had to turn the water supply off. That meant using the facilities in the middle of the night - which had not been in the original plan when choosing my site.

For some reason, that night I was a little uncomfortable staying by myself and having to walk to the restroom anytime I had to go. And I finally decided that it had to be the trees and the unfamiliar campground.

And that really was the only time so far I have been uncomfortable - nothing I could really put my finger on. Maybe there were spirits in that campground - it was that kind of atmosphere.

Oh and the water leak turned out to be totally loose connection going into the fresh water tank... tightened it when I got home and was good to go.

Glad to hear you passed an okay night. Maybe just the wind in the trees or something. Weren't reading a scary book or watching a scary show on TV were you? That'll do it too. Enjoy your sightseeing there.

I camped in a SP on one of the barrier islands in the panhandle that was a little unnerving. Location of my rig was similar to what you described. Next morning, met the people camping nearby and they were very nice.

Leaving the outside door light on helps make it not so dark. Really like the suggestion that you can honk the horn and flash lights, if necessary, to call attention to your rig. I have a travel trailer so that isn't really an option for me, but guess I could use an airhorn. Ha! That would wake people up fast. Anyway, I have a motion alarm I can hang from the inside door handle. Not sure it is worth much, but it does make me more comfortable.

Glad you got some sleep and were able to enjoy the day.

There are more people around today, so I will feel a lot better tonight.

Tomorrow I drive 300 miles and camp in the factory customer satisfaction center. It will be a boring day or two while they work on my vehicle. I hope they are able and willing to fix everything. Wish me luck.

Then I head to doctor appointments and a couple of days of visiting with friends and co-workers. Looking forward to that!

And once you leave the park, let us know where it is, cause I, at least, am curious....or nosy, you know what I mean.

It was Mammoth Cave National Park. The first night there was almost nobody in this very large campground, but on Saturday night more people came. Just felt like I as there all by myself and it freaked me out, for some strange reason.

I have stayed there once....and you are right about how dense the trees are and how dark the loops appear to be..... :)
