My Grandmother made the best fried fruit pies(North Texas). Why don't we learn how to do these things when we have a chance. I tried to make some one time and they were a mess. I'm a big fan of Natchitoches meat pies, went to Northwestern. Yea, I can still spell it. Now we can buy them frozen. Don't like their crawfish pies. There was a lady in Abbeville that made the best crawfish pies. When she died her daughter made them for a while but closed the business. Someone told me recently that one of the granddaughters is making them again. Need to tell my DH. He will track them down.
Around here they make sweet dough pies which are baked but look like the fried pies. My neighbor makes the best Fig Sweet Dough Pies. The ones sold in stores are more dough than fruit.
I'm with Tina, if there is a cook off let us know where to show up.
