Texas GTG Photos

Here are some photos from our potluck last night:

There are quite a few very friendly deer that keep hanging around looking for a handout. Here they are sneaking up on Birdie. (OK, she did not drink that whole bottle.)
Image

After we ate, it got dark, so when the lights went on, here is what we saw. Had to keep shooing them away or they would have helped themselves to our table full of leftovers!
Image

Tonight we went out to Cooper's Old Time Barbecue in New Braunfels, TX. No frills, but very good steak. You pick out your meat, grab a potato and they wrap it in butcher paper and put it on your tray.

Maybe someone else will add some of their photos to this thread.

Moved to the get together room. Even better, for all to be in one place, would be adding them to the gtg thread - but just glad to see pics :)

Some of our 4-legged "friends". When Judy was taking their pictures, one walked right up to her, practically sniffing her phone camera.

I especially love seeing pictures of Carolyn. She always has her camera in hand, and is never in the pics.

I saw the tail end of Sharon's Jeep in one of the pics, but she's not in any of the pics. Did anybody see if she was locked in & trying to crawl out of her window again?

I was told that. And I also told her my camera was as big as hers and I could take her picture! :)

Super pics! Thanks so much!

I must say that those deer are really emaciated-looking....no wonder they are acting so hungry. Ribs showing and bellies caved in. Was there a drought there this year that kept their food from them? I guess all states suffered droughts, come to think of it. Poor babies.

Most looked fine, but there was one doe that was always around who did look bad. You could see her ribs and her fur was scruffy.

However, there is plenty of green grass around here for her to eat and has been for quite a while, I am told, so I wonder if she was ill or just old. This little herd spends their days napping or grazing around the campgroun. (Except, why do we humans get chubbier with age instead of thinner??? Maybe we eat too good and keep our candy stashes?)

They are amazingly small deer, however. I could probably grab one and even pick it up in my arms easily. Michigan deer, where I am from, are at least a foot or 18 inches taller and double or triple the weight of these little things.

Vickie, Mitch must have driven you to drink again, I was in one of the pictures....either that or it's been so long since you've seen me you forgot what I looked like! :D

Ava, Birdie's drinking Barefoot Moscato. Karen S. gave me a drink of hers and I was hooked, so Birdie opened a bottle for me. I bought my own today. Boy, is that stuff good!! :D

If those deer are full grown they are tiny compared to the deer in South Dakota....I thought EVERYTHING was bigger in Texas!

Sharon, I don't see you in any pictures either...after your post I went back to check again...even looked very closely at all the pictures that Birdie is in...thought you might be sitting by her pilfering her wine. ;) Is Karen shaking up a beer to spray it on someone? :?

Thanks for the pictures ladies...it's so fun to put faces with names.

If I had a yardstick, I could probably go out there and measure one they are so tame. I am guessing the does are no more than 36" high. MUCH smaller than the ones I am used to in Michigan and northern states. They can't weigh very much at all. Technically they are white-tails, but a different sub-group than we have in the north.

The buck is shyer and maybe a couple of inches taller. I was sneaking up on one yesterday, when Paul, Dawn's brother came by on his motorscooter and told me to look behind me. There were several others following me!
