Monday, waiting for Sandy

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Monday, waiting for Sandy

Postby carolb » Mon Oct 29, 2012 4:43 am

Any other east coasters awake yet??? Hope yore all safe if yore in the path of Sandy the "Frankenstorm"!!! All is well here in Central NY, so far. The winds are to be the big problem here, starting later this evening. That translates into possible loss of power. Will take the HarBor for propane today! He may be my "life saver" if I'm with no power. Prayers for all that are getting battered by this storm...Ok, have jobs for T & W, which may be cancelled if the storm does as expected. I'm watching t.v. news, & some schools are already posting early closing today in prep for the storm...Y'all be safe & have a great Monday!.... And Dawn, thanks for explaining yore ins problem--so sorry. I didn't realize yew had pre-exisiting condition. That's something that really needs to get changed in the health care system! That's a BIG reason I haven't seen a dr in the past 7 years--was afraid they'd find something, then I'd never get ins! :( Now isn't that poor reasoning to ignore my health!

been up since 3am watching the news. Just got off phone with hubby making sure he has everything and that so far he's ok. He has to go in to the office as one of the alarms went off. Guess no sense in me jumping up and down but he said ," he'll be home before noon."..the man never stops.! Guess i'll keep myself busy so I won't think about it...

Called my family as some are in New York City and others out on the island. Lord this is sure nerve bending for everyone...this is one of those times you hope and pray the media has this wrong.

Keep safe everyone and if you can post check in when you can.

God bless

Good morning. I had a night like Janice had Sat night. Couldn't sleep. Or I should say Tyler wouldn't let me sleep. We had the best day at the air show. Got home and Tyler had left #2 (big and loose) in the middle of the living room!! Very unlike him. Anyway, I wasn't happy with him, but did not talk harsh or anything toward him. I could tell from his behavior he was upset by his accident. So all night, about every hour he asked to be let out and he has diarrhea. Don't know if he ate something, has stress diarrhea, or something else is wrong. Anyway, will change his diet to rice and chicken for a couple days and keep a close eye on him.

I gave up trying to go back to bed. So, I'm up !! So I decided I would make a big pot of chili for the TX gtg. Got it in the crock pot. Got kitchen cleaned up for next project. Now have to figure out exactly what needs to go out to the rig. DH still calls it Purple People Eater  I have done lots of tent camping and back packing, but the RV is totally different. It is like taking your house with you :P DH did tons of camping as a Boy Scout and then as a Boy Scout leader. But he said he has out grown roughing it. So the RV life style is very different and something I am having fun figuring out. I'm really looking forward to my first camping gtg this weekend.

FrankenSandy storm sure looks awful. Even Wall Street is closed. The stock market is closed for trading till Wed. Praying everyone in the path of FrankenSandy stays safe. All those traveling, stay safe. Everyone have a great day. Aloha, y'all

good Morning to all from cool clear Tucumcari, NM. Couldn't sleep any longer so got up about 5:30 - Have the TV on watching Sandy - Hope no one is badly impacted by her. I see it is 28 degrees at home and tonight will be a full moon. Just what the tides need. Just fixed a fresh pot of coffee - nice and strong and hot. Help your selves.
Didn't do much yesterday. Watched the race and a good soccer game and drove around town a little taking some pictures for the blog. finally did find a travel clock and got it set - only problem was I also set the Alarm which of course went off in the middle of the night.
We're leaving here today and going to Albuquerque? Alamogordo? Roswell? or some place else. We are just on a heck bent for leather course to Mexico.
I need to remember at night before The Driver gets in bed to take out my clothes for the next day. Forgot last nite (he was in bed reading by 7:30 - he was cold!) I'm going to have to do some readjusting of my attitude or this is going to be a very long winter. The shingles and the reaction to the medication have left me with a short fuse it seems. Well I can try to blame it on that.
Enough crabbing - going to have a cuppa and relax.

Good Morning Carolb, Red, Barbzee and all who follow,

This morning is the calm before the storm so to speak. I have been watching the Weather Channel most of yesterday afternoon and some this morning and just can't get over the imensity of this storm. This is one time that the weather folks are not joking. This is one big serious monster and it will do what they say. Right now the storm is off shore of Cape Hatteras, NC and So keep planning those GTG's. I will get there eventually.

Well, looks like it's time to be off and heading to town. Will be keeping all those who are in the path or have family members in the path of Sandy in my prayers that you all stay safe and no harm comes to you or your properties. For those who are venturing out on the roads today, drive safe and stay alert. Wishing everybody else a great day.

Morning Carolb, Barb, Red and all to follow.

Woke up at my old normal time this morning, 5:45. First thought was about Zeee's DH and everyone else on the East Coast. Worried about all my family in Connecticut. After Irene last year, they are all going to be eating out of their freezers. One of my cousins got to grocery store yesterday to pick up more supplies to wait out any after effects. They were all without electricity for quite a while last year after Irene. Haven't heard from the family in VT yet. Mom is calling her sister there to make sure they are all OK and set as much as they can be for Sandy. My aunt telling her right now they are all set for Sandy if it hits there. Got plenty of wood for fireplace, plenty of water and plenty of food. They are only worried about one tree that is pretty old.

Looking forward to heading to TX GTG tomorrow. Went to grocery store yesterday to get all my groceries. They only thing they did not have was Bay Scallops so just going to double the shrimp in the Seafood Chowder. Not enough room in my pantry area so have sacks of groceries on the far side of my bed. Looked at the routing last night and we are only about 76 miles from Potters Creek so we plan on leaving here around 11 tomorrow morning. Have to make another trip to Marble Falls today so Paul can go to Lowe's to get a ramp to make it easier to put his scooter on the rack he carries it on. Takes two people to put it up on the rack right now. I hurt a tendon in my arm during all the moving and everytime I try to help him, it gets reinjured. Not much strength in that arm right now until it heals so I am not much help to him.

I am watching the weather, like everyone else, worried about any of the Sistahs or their families stuck in the path of Sandy. If you are traveling today, stay safe.

Good Morning All, It is a cold 32 degrees here this morning, I told the dogs their walks were on hold until it was at least 50 out there! The moon is so beautiful but guess a full moon combined with Sandy isn't a good thing.

The dog trainer called Friday to see how we were doing and suggested I get a Thunder Shirt for Toby. I think before I spend any more $$$ I am going to see if the collar I ordered helps, it really made a difference when I used the one she had. The minute I put it on he was like a different dog, much calmer, it is a plastic form of a spike collar which I swore I would never use, but this one doesn't feel very sharp, just a slight pinch but she said it let him know I was in charge and he didn't have to be watching after me. I won't leave it on him of course just when I know someone is coming an I need to control him at the door or in public. Hopefully it will be delivered today! Meanwhile I'm still treating his ear infection that he developed after the breeder plucked the hair out of his ears when she groomed him :(

I'm going to yoga this morning, I missed so much during the summer while it was so hot and then this fall when I wasn't feeling well. I can really tell I am out of shape so I'm trying to go three times a week to try and get caught up.

Finally had to make an appointment to get Elsie winterized as I have to leave her at an unheated storage place until January.

Time to start the morning chores and get organized. Thinking of those traveling and those in the path of Sandy.

Gee...I got to sleep in today!! :) 7am MDT....as with everyone else, we're watching the Weather Channel to keep up with "Sandy"....the gang at home got a call from us yesterday, to see if they were ready....they are all snug and set......again, it's cool but sunny in Deming, NM today...but it's the "Fall" in the desert southwest..it will be up in the mid 70s by noon....

Okay, not much to offer this morning, so am going to go and get another cup of java and surf the net for awhile....those on the road, be safe, and those in the path of Sandy, stay home and be safe....

Later all,

Morning! I am so tired! We work hard when doing airshow, then the weekends are really long days. Add into that the wind and sun... I may do nothing at the TX GTG but eat and sleep!

And I missed seeing Red and her DH. I actually had it confused and thought they were going to be there Saturday so looked for them then.

I'm working 3 days this week before heading to the TX GTG. So y'all don't have too much fun without me.

And those in Sandy's path - please stay safe!

Sorry we missed each other. Wow, that air show was the bestest! Amazing, exciting, incredible history. I have seen the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels many times when they put on a show in Hawaii. But yesterday I was the little island girl in the big city. All the WWII airplanes....and the re creation of the attack of Pearl Harbor, bombs and everything (pyrotechnics). I have a great story from my friend's mom that was having tea at an apt on Waikiki Beach when the attack started.

I don't know how you were able to make it to work today. That was a HUGE job. But job well done.

GOOD MORNING TO ALL FROM FAR NORTHERN NY STATE.

We will be on wind alert from about 2:00 pm this afternoon until who-knows-when. Joe just got back here from my house, Mandy is at school, Orion is napping, and all the dogs are in here with us. So far, it's the calm before the storm.

It seems as if Sandy is strengthening as she gets ready to make landfall. Right now it's the calm before the storm here. I need to take some stuff out of Joe's truck and put it in the bed of my truck with its protective camper cap on it. He managed to find one of the collapsible dog cages I wanted, but also brought a huge metal one I can't use at all. I wish I could have talked to him on the phone before he headed back here. Now I will have to go back there no matter what. Sigh.

No more news from Kathy yet today. Gotta go do stuff here now. Hope all keep a wary eye to the sky and that you will all be safe as Sandy raises havoc with our property ----better property than lives.

If this logs me off as I try to post, I won't get this on as I have no more patience...let's hope it goes through.

Happy travels!

Just got off the phone with my son and my good friend in NYC, and they're both fine. I have to admit the photos from Battery Park earlier this morning unsettled me, with the water slapping the tops of the picnic tables. I sometimes stand about ten feet from that photo site, waiting for the ferry to Ellis Island. The water hasn't crested yet. My people are all on high ground, so I'm confident they'll be fine. Still, this is a really big storm!
