Size wouldn't be a problem, but first come first served would be. So let's go back to the original list Laura posted. Probably lots of other places also, but she's researched and I don't see any reason we can't go with one of these. I'm not making a choice, as can't promise I'll her there, but will go to any if I can. I do prefer a different location from this year, just cuz I like to go different places.

I'm intrigued with Cove Palisades but Lynn2 reminded me that at that time of year there will probably be forest fires in the area and the smoke could be bad. Heck, the campground could catch fire in one of those fires. Of course, it could be raining and blowing 50 at the coast. There isn't a perfect place to go and we can't control the weather but I'd like to find a place where we could all just sit around the campground/rv park and have an opportunity to go and explore the area. I will tell you that the coast is only about 60 miles from Silver Spur. I'm not pushing that one, just letting people know that the coast isn't that far away if someone needs their fix LOL

There are so many state parks at the coast and I looked at all of them online and have driven through most of them as well. Fort Stevens seemed to be a good choice for its location and things to do in the area. I'm going to take a day and drive up there and check out the park since that's one that I haven't seen in person. I think wherever we go, we'll have to drive to get anywhere (store, shopping, sightseeing, hiking, etc).

We have lots of time to decide and we shouldn't have any issues reserving spots in the state parks after Labor Day. I'm pretty much just looking at state parks and the one rv park that I believe we can get a good deal at if we belong to Passport America. There are a few other private campgrounds I found that might be a little more per night but they usually offer a weekly rate that saves a little money.

I don't mind finding a place to have the gtg but it won't be the perfect place for everyone.

Thanks,
Laura

Laura, my two cents... Pick a place and dates and take away our choices.

Laura - you did all that research. Go with what seems good to YOU, whether it's Cove Palisade or Silver Spur. I think they all sound like fun because they all mean seeing friends, both those I've already met and those I don't know yet.

When I was at Ft. Stevens in June the mosquitoes were AWFUL! There is a mucky little ditch that runs along the campsites (L loop and probably M). Don't know if it would be a problem in Sept. but worth thinking about.

My friend tent camped at Ft Stevens last month and loved it. No mention of mosquitoes.

I really enjoyed Fort Stevens when we went there in September several years ago -- no 'skeeter issue that I can recall. I love the history that goes with the area and as far as things being "drive to" locations, we made a road trip to Crater Lake this year that we resolved!

I would love to go anywhere... IF I get to go. Laura -- I think you're a pretty good judge of locations and challenges of each. I agree with Ellen - pick a spot and dates and let's "Do It!"

For my .02, and as a newbie, I love Cove Palisades but Silverton and the Mt. Angel area are a big draw as well. On the other hand, we love the beach. So choose away.

Karen (Oregonluvr) and I are going to take a little road trip on the 23rd to scope out a few locations.....we want to make sure the larger rigs will fit and that the campground is in a good location with good spaces. The pictures look okay but we've been fooled by pictures on a website on several occasions.
