Monday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Monday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Mon Oct 22, 2012 7:30 am

A Cheery Good Morning everybody,

Hope you all slept good last night and are bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning. Not much in the breakfast nook today. Have eggs and sausage, can fight over the last 4 pieces of bacon if you want. Got some strawberries (frozen) and some canned peaches, that's about it. Do have eggs, green peppers and sliced cheese here though, so anybody who wants to, can make a oemlet.

A cloudy morning here at the 45th. Supposed to be a decen day, with rain showers moving in by tonight. So hopefully ifall goes well, I will get my windows washed and screens put away for the winter, my lawn tractor and snow blowers out and washed, oil and spark plugs changed, grease job on the blower where needed and lawn tractor stored away for winter too. It's done it's last bit of work for this year. Won't be much left to do around here other than burlap shrubs later donw the line and probably go over yard one more time with leaf blower, or at least part of yard as leaves are off almost all the trees except those on the other side of my drive.

Had a bit of excitement around here this past week. There's a stretch of woods behind me that run about a mile to maybe a mile and a quarter from south to north and about a quarter of a mile, maybe a bit more wide. It's all state land with a little parcel of landlocked private property in one spot and about 20 acres of private property with a house on it out behind me. Well, Saturday afternoon, some guy bent on suicide was out there, loaded with guns and the police were searching for him on foot with K-9 dogs. Involved police from two counties and a DNR Conservation Officer. They had blocked off the main road and were not letting any traffic by. One fire truck was parked at the end of my road and that's how i found out about it, when I went to take my dogs out for a walk. They did find him however and arrested him. Apparently a call had come in from one of the houses along the highway here that there was a sucidial man out there, so don't know how it all started. News will cme out in local paper I am sure. It's been all over the TV. And the authorities never notified anybody around here about it either. Perhaps he was far enough up the road to not be a threat to anybody and maybe they didn't want to attract any attenntion to it and wind up with people out and about to see what was going on. But some are saying that they could have at least alerted us to the situation as a safety precaution. I walk my dogs back in those woods on ocassion. Maybe that will be off my list after this. Friend of mine saw him as he was walking down the shoulder of the road on her way home from work. Said he had a backpack and was carrying a high powered rifle. That was before everything else started.

Well, back to work for Ava day. Carol is getting her final list pared down before she and the Driver hit the road. Dawn, sorry that your family is going through so much with your one DD. But please, get out and enjoy life and the time with your mom, your other DD and your GD. Sometimes things just have to sort themselves out. Soos will be hitting the road next weekend too, so going ot be people on the road out there. Drive safe all of you and happy trails as Soos says.

I'm contemplating heading back Up North again, this time for maybe a month. But have some logistics to work out first. Always those "life" things that get in the way. Mail, banking, dentist and doctor appts (physical time), vet appt.s for Tessa, whom by the way is is improving very well, etc. to figure out yet. Then maybe can get up there. Had though about maybe the month of December perhaps. Want to see if I really miss this place down here and they only way I will know, is to leave it for awhile. I didn't want to come back when I was up three weeks ago and all I want to do is go back, soooo.......

Got to get moving here, chiropractor appt. this morning and must stop at store, neeed some auto washer fluidd to do my windows with and also need some oil for the blower. Need to pull the plugs before I know which ones I need there, but dealer is only a few minutes up road, so no big deal on that.

So you all have a nice day out there. Enjoy the sunshine and warm weather if you have any. Looks like winter is starting to move in across the Northwest and Rockies.

GOOD MORNING SUE AND ALL TO COME LATER!

The fact that you people who live there were not notified about the potential danger from a man carrying a gun and a backpack with possible suicide intentions is shameful and downright dangerous. I sure hope you and the neighbors don't let this fact escape being publicized.

The day has dawned sunny here for a change! I caught a mouse in my live trap last night in my silverwae drawer, so now I am washing and sterilizing all those things. Will take the mouse way down the road for a second chance for life elsewhere in a little while. I don't know if he's and Adirondack mouse, or a Champlain Valley mouse, but no matter.

My head cold seems to be a bit better today as my nose is no longer running like a faucet. I am taking Coricidin for high blood pressure people and some zinc cold treatment. Last night Mandy said that Orion had a temperature and had thrown up, so I need to go inside to see how he is feeling today. I hope he is better, too.

Off I go to do some more sorting and tossing extraneous stuff, to make room for Kathy's things on Saturday. I hope Joe will get to my house this week to pick up the stuff I left, including mail. Thiks morniing I will schedule to have my mail forwarded from November 1st until the end of May.

Happy Monday to you all!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Morning all. Sue, I would be careful walking in those woods. Unfortunately, in this day and age you never know who or what can happen. Just be aware of what is around you. Glad Tessa is still doing better.

Soos, glad your cold is getting better and hope that Orion is feeling better too.

I will be spending the day getting us ready to leave here tomorrow. Hope Mom is feeling better today. I had been hurting like usual yesterday due to the MS. Because I sat the biggest part of the day because Mom was resting, the pain just kept getting more intense. Finally by about 9 last night, my gait was really off and was having trouble getting my legs to move right. I took a pain pill and slept really hard. I usually wake up once or twice a night because my arms hurt. Did not do that last night. I do really well as long as I keep moving. We had had some big temperature changes here for a few days and that is what set the pain off. Normally my legs and arms are just achy and uncomfortable. Nothing I can't just deal with and keep on trucking.

I need to get busy since I got nothing accomplished yesterday. Hope everyone has a great day and if you are traveling, stay safe.

Morning - back in the real world for a couple of days before I head off on another adventure - it's Airshow week in Houston. It will take us all week to set up for the show with it starting in earnest on Weds. Then Sat and Sun are the show and then everything comes down Sunday night. And it's supposed to rain this weekend.

Dawn - between Burnet and Marble Falls is a a highway intersection they call Fuzzy's Corner. There is a Mexican Food restaurant that has really really good tamales. They used to have just a tamale stand. Anyway found out about them from my aunt that lives in MF. Thought you might want to know, in case you might want to stop for some tamales - say for a GTG :D :D :D Seriously, if you do stop and brought me a dozen pork, I would gladly pay you!!!

Good morning Sue, Soos, Dawn, Maggie and all those to follow. Sue, that's scary. Glad they caught the guy. Soos, I think I caught your head cold. Or I should say I'm fighting it off with Zicam, Airborne, vitamins, hot water w/ lemon and honey, etc. Dawn, I hope you and mom both are feeling better so you can start heading south toward Canyon Lake :P Maggie, I'll see you at the air show!!

I'm going back to bed shortly. One, cuz I'm fighting a cold. Two, Tyler woke us up at 3:30 am barking at something. He likes to lay at the big bay window in the dining room and watch. during the day it's the squirrels. But at night, when a cat comes along, he raises hell barking and pacing. I usually just turn on the flood lights and that scars the cat away. Last night I turned on the flood lights and looked out the window to see a cute black kitty with two white strips down it's back with a big fluffy tail  It did not scar or move. But Tyler was barking a storm and running back and forth. He wanted that kitty so bad!! I had to sequester Tyler in a room up stairs with no windows ( I was there with him). Then I heard the dogs next door barking, I felt pretty sure the skunk had moved on. But I could not turn Tyler loose in the yard till around 9am hoping skinky had left the area. DH says there's been lots of skunks in this area, but it is the first oneI have seen. Smell? Yes. Seen? No!!

Everyone have a great day and be safe if your on the road.

I live in fear of Rudy getting sprayed. He has rolled in turkey poop 3 times...I have a small child's plastic pool for his bath. Hopefully the turkey's will be gone soon as it will be hard to bathe him since he won't get in the shower with me...at least he doesn't want to...might have to see who wins the battle!
Here is Skunk remedy for anyone who doesn't have it...

The Skunk Remedy Recipe
In a plastic bucket, mix well the following ingredients:
1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 cup of baking soda
1 to 2 teaspoons liquid soap
for very large pets one quart of tepid tap water may be added to enable complete coverage.
Wash pet promptly and thoroughly, work the solution deep into the fur. Let your nose guide you, leave the solution on about 5 minutes or until the odor is gone. Some heavily oiled areas may require a "rinse and repeat" washing.
Skunks usually aim for the face, but try to keep the solution out of the eyes - it stings. If you have any cuts on your hands you might want to wear latex gloves for the same reason.
After treatment, thoroughly rinse your pet with tepid tap water.
Pour the spent solution down the drain with running water.
NEVER, ever, store mixed solution in a closed bottle, sprayer, etc. Pressure will build up until the container bursts. This can cause severe injury.e in fear of Rudy getting sprayed...he has come in 3 times now after rolling in turkey poop...bath time immediately!
In case not all have this recipe for a skunk attack:

Maggie, we passed by Fuzzy's yesterday! We're at Fort Richardson State Park & Historic Site in Jacksboro. It's raining today, but should pass by this evening. Tomorrow we will move about 25 miles to Bowie to visit friends for a few days. They had medical appointments in Dallas today so we decided to stay here for two nights.

Mesengell douche works great!!! just mix according to directions and bath the dog with it.(2 to 3 packages work on a Spinner size dog.)...A Vet told us about it when our other dog decided that the critter outside looked alot like the cat inside.....

Maggie, love tamales so will definitely have to stop in there. What kind do you want me to pick up for you? I usually prefer pork. How many do you want? I can put them in freezer if we go by there too many days before Canyon Lake GTG.

Good Afternoon... we had rain and more rain this morning... picked up my daughter from the pain clinic where she got 4 injections in her spine... she is home now with an ice pack on her back... hopefully she will rest most of the day before she hits the floor running tomorrow...
Sue I would say that the guy was not bent on killing himself if he had a high powered rifle unless he cut off the barrel... my neighbor killed himself with a shot gun but he cut off the barrel to do it... sad thing... yes Sue I agree cross the woods off your list...
Take care of yourself Dawn... rest helps MS as you know... but then back up and at it later...
Soos Zicam is a cold remedy but I cannot stand it the zinc tastes awful!!
Have a good day everyone

Thanks for posting the "Alternative Skunk Smell Eradicators"; I hadn't heard of anything besides a lot of tomato juice but that doesn't work too well if one has a light colored dog.

I have used vinegar and water (half and half) for skunk spray. The vinegar cuts the oil.

Darn Vickie, I'll be near Jacksboro next Sunday in Lakeside! Oh well.
