Making use of a wasted space

Again in the bedroom there are two small windows next to the closet - one sits in an alcove that we didn't use for anything. Again we got this idea from another Alfa owner - turning the area into storage
the original window and space

framing it in

putting up outer frame

finished with doors open

with doors closed

living room with the fireplace finished and clean

now he is making one of those pvc pipe flag poles and has a whole list of other stuff he wants to do. ....
then it will be my turn to pack it.

Wow,.... what a wasted space that was. it surprises me as Alfa is a high end rig,.... But what a great space you have now. I love it. Did you order the doors special or did Bill make them? They look sharp!

I have a question, Carol. When a person starts adding solar panels, fireplaces and making use of wasted space, all of that adding more weight to the rig, do you have to leave something behind to keep under the load weight restrictions? Just curious.

Love what you did. I'd love to enclose our ledge area also, but would have difficulty framing on one side (wall for back of shower with panel for entry into waterline and no edge for framing.) What was originally in front of shelving area where you put the fireplace, etc.? It certainly looks cozy. carold

To answer a couple of questions - We bought the cabinet doors at a Home Improvement Store (ever notice the initials are HIS?) He stained them and put on the hardware. When we bought the Alfa there was a big, heavy sleeper sofa in front of the area where we put the fireplace. The fireplace weighs about 20lbs. It is very light weight. If we filled that storage area with "stuff" it would probably weigh more. The Alfa can carry a lot of weight and has an awful lot of up high storage space that we don't fully utilize.(remember we dont LIVE in it we just travel a few months at a time.) The solar panels also don't weigh very much. Both the panels and the fireplace together don't weigh as much as the couch we took out. We've also taken two TVs out that came with the coach. Yes he is very handy to have around and he loves to BUILD things. Yesterday he added mirrors to the sliding door between the living area and bedroom, makes the door more stable. Today he is building a wine rack (neither of us drink!) in fact that was Beths idea.
I have to be careful of what I ask for.

Oh Carol I am sooo jealous that you have a hubby who likes to tinker and be creative, I have to get dan's buddies to nudge him to do the improvements. Dan does not know how to use a saw lol.
Now me I like to make things and I want a circular saw to cut some wood pieces I have to make little plaques.

Jenny what do you want for Christmas?.....A circular saw, saw horses....my drill Press and scroll saw are still at my Mom's.

Your DH does exceptional work! Seems so practical, makes me wonder why they don't do it at the manufacturers. Was wondering if blocking off that cute little window would make it dark, but see there is another window right beside it. Ever thought about making a design change recommendation to the maunfacturers? Again, a pat on the back to your talented hubby.
