After this weekend, DH is ready to go to boot camp. The dealership basically gave us a DVD and sent us to go camping. We have figured stuff out by trial and error. Very frustrating. So far, we have done very well....even dumping the black water :P So now I think he is on board. Now I have to call and see if they have any spots left

LOL, Chris. Did you pay the dealership to orient you that way so DH would be more eager to go? ROFL. My "orientation" was a guy talking 27-gazillion words per minute, walking around the rig the whole time with me struggling to keep up AND process the PREVIOUS thing he said. I brought my friend, Kari, with me, and she was trying to take notes and process all at the same time. I too have been learning by trial and error. So far, all my mistakes have been recoverable (<--me, looking for wood to knock on).

Anyway, see you there!

Our orientation was a joke. I'm guessing that since they did not make any money on the sale (got it for less than dealer invoice) and they couldn't sell us their extended warranty and they knew we would not be coming back to Mississippi for service, that we were lucky we got what we did

Glad you're joining the gang at Bootcamp, Red. You will all enjoy it. :)
They really cover a lot of ground including the tanks, safety sessions both personal & tips for safe travels. I even had my van weighed so I could make sure my tires were inflated correctly. Found out they had been pumped them up to the max - was able to take some air out & it handles much better. Also found out I could add 2 850 pound gorillas  & still be slightly under my gross vehicle weight max.
Plus just all being together will be a blast!!!! :D :D Enjoy! And we want to see pics & hear all about it afterwards! :D

I agree that the orientation you get at the dealers is pretty useless. It took actual camping and trying things out to really know what I was doing, and then I had more questions than I had during that "orientation."

Maybe someday I will try a boot camp. I am still learning things--like not to put your awning up half-way without the supports because it will collapse in the wind. Had to run down and get help with it today. Another lesson learned the hard way!

The Boot Camp will be better if you can both go so DH hears the same thing as you do. And then you have some camping coming up real quick here. Carolyn's 5th is about the same size and layout as yours and mine is just a bit smaller. And there will be lots of other experienced ladies there that can lend a hand.

as I recall ours was pretty over whelming and as we were not going to be using it a great deal for awhile soon left the mind
so wish that we had been given a dvd how handy that would be!!! and boot camp was always going to happen NOT! wish it had
so still learning by trial and error and asking questions....
I do believe you will get answers to questions and leave with even more questions
have a fun experience

Congratulations on getting to go to camp. Hoping there is one near me next year. Had signed up for one in Ky but it was cancelled.
I wish I had gotten a DVD too. Surely it would be better than some of the manuals I received.
Looking forward to your report on the classes.

Red, will be great for you to be at the Boot Camp too. I bought the Motorhome DVD's from RV Education 101. They are very informative too. I had a pretty good orientation at the dealership, but so much information is given to you in a short period of time that so much of it just goes in one ear and out the other. I took some videos while my guy was talking. I need to go back now and watch them.

Now that we have an RV, I will cancel the room reservations at Holiday Inn  For those that are going to Livingston for boot camp in November, where are you staying? Rainbow's End or State Park or ???? After our fiasco getting rig into driveway, DH is really ready for boot camp!! :D  Ellen, where are you staying? We now have a sleeper sofa!!!

Red - I'm staying at LaQuinta. Thanks for your suggestion; I decided that after a day of information overload, I was going to need some down time / alone time to process. :?

Did I see that Nancy (Travelinana) is going too? :) I think that will make four of us from this forum.

Boot Camp is full. No room at the Inn for us. Our Names are on a cancellation list. I'll keep bugging them and hope that someone (no one from WRV) decides to cancel. Maybe y'all could bug em and tell them to let us in
