Who says There's Nothing to do in or Around Deming, NM

Well, there's plenty to do....and we're just getting started....

Last Tuesday we went to the local museum. Lots of local history with the usual items donated by founding families and cowboy stuff...But the main items of interest were all about the Mimbres...ancient Native people who lived in the area.... Here we go....off to the Museum....Sit back, relax, cause it's a little long....

And some items from the more recent Native Indians of about a couple of 100 years...

On Thursday we took a drive up to City of Rocks State Park and the Santa Rita "Chino" copper mines....

And then today we went to the local winery for their Winefest....The RV Park here gave us free tickets and got some good deals on some good wine...

Hope you enjoyed the tours....We still have 3 more locations we want to visit...so stay tuned...

I need to slow down and spend more time exploring on my way east every year!

Is that the mine I told you about near Silver City? Did you get a tour of the foundry and down to the bottom?

Good job finding the places of local interest. Loved the pottery. And loved your smiles!

Thanks for the tour Lori. I hope to be in Deming sometime in Nov. Now I have a headsup on what to see.

Thanks Lori. Enjoyed your pictures and commentary. You are doing just what Chuck and I always loved to do when we traveled. Every town has something of interest. We loved going to the little museums and learning all we could about whatever area we were in. Thanks for taking us along with you guys on your trips.

I've always liked Deming. I, too, loved the Mimbres Museum BUT was sad to see that so many of the pottery had been collected by pot hunters who tend to desecrate Indian sites and do a lot of damage.

We also always went to Palomas, Mexico. The only thing there is the Pink Store which has a good Mexican restaurant and a great gift shop where you can buy liquor duty free. We always parked on the US side and just walked the couple of blocks into Mexico.

City of Rocks was awesome. I love the desert and New Mexico.

Hi Sharon, Lori and Dock
I'm not sure when I will get to Deming, but I would love gtg. I am meeting up with a group of SoloTrekers in Branson, MO Oct 25-30 and then spending some time in Hot Springs. AR. Then my CT travel buddies will be heading home and I'm traveling by myself. Yikes!
When I get closer I will PM my cell phone number. Sometimes PM messages go into my junk mail, so phone contact is better.

I loved city of rocks sp. Actually haven't stayed at a NM state park I haven't liked. I know, you visited, but that works, too. Glad you're enjoying yourselves.
