I have no idea how old I was? Or what grade I was in when I learned of Crater Lake and Wizard Island.... But I have been fascinated with it ever since. You have whetted my appetite and curiosity even more with those great pics.

I don't have an extensive Bucket List, but Crater Lake has been one of the places on it. Hawaii, Alaska and the Redwoods are all on there too!!

Did you happen to learn if there were any trails going down to the water?? I know I would be unable to make that kind of hike now but had always dreamed of putting my feet in that water. It' mind blowing that the water stays so beautiful considering that no "fresh" water stream or river goes in or out to keep it clean and fresh.

HA! Dumb question about any trails to the water! Can't fish if ya can't get to the water!!!

Yep, you're right about the fishing and trails. The biggest problem, no matter how slight the grade - is all uphill coming back up. Some trails there are handicap accessible - whether one to the water, I don't know.

Wonderful pics, as usual, Beth. Unfortunately, I saw Crater lake on the fly as I was fleeing Oregon after giving birth to my first child, relinquishing her for adoption, and heading back here to try to resume my life. Everything on that trip home was nothing but a blur, literally, through eyes filled with tears and a broken heart. Now that I have found that daughter, still living in OR, I am hoping we can tour Crater Lake together, perhaps with her daughter and my great grand kids!

Echo, I left the NW gtg a little early to meet up with an old friend and see Crater Lake. The ranger on our tour said the Cleetwood Trail goes down to the lake where you can swim (usually only a couple minutes because it's so cold) or fish (no license required and take as many fish as you want). He also added that because the trail is so steep, they have to carry a hiker out on a stretcher at least once a week during the summer! I don't know about you, but I probably am not going to be dipping my toes in that beautiful water (although I'd love to).
