Thursday with a "yew"!

Aha! It's a good morning when I can get a "yew"! Nope, my key still isn't working, however, I started typing "Th" in my s-bject box, and my comp-ter remembered I had typed it before! So, I will look at this as a good omen! GOOD MORNING ALL I read the later posts for yesterday, and it seems like we are maybe all at the age when have to deal with more complexities in life--like someone asked "why are they called the 'golden years?'" Well, we do o-r best to enjoy, yet the realities of aging parents, aging pets, aging vehicles, and one's own aging are a big part of those golden years. So I'm wishing all a day that brings respite from those realities...Dawn, it seems the "decision" facing yo- and Pa-l needs m-ch prayer, so that will be on the top of my list. Coffee is hot, cereal is cold! I have another two days of "stand in" teaching; gas money! BTW, Soos, the gas is cheaper down here "in the valley"-- down to 4.03 Blessings to all and safe travels!

Good morning Carolb and everyone!

Carolb, I certainly understand what you mean about the golden years. I spent the last couple days with my parents again, as they don't think the golden years are all that golden. My mother is legally blind but physically is in fairly good shape but my father has all sorts of health issues and isn't happy. But they seemed to enjoy my being there and especially enjoyed the German meal I fixed for their dinner last night. I am so greatful for my health and hope it continues for many more years.

I, too, am keeping Dawn & Paul in my prayers with the concerns about their mother.

I had good results with my vegetable garden this year and ended up putting up nine Ziploc baggies of spaghetti sauce. There are still lots of green tomatoes on the vines and I'm hopeful more sauce is in the future before the frosts hit. I'll be getting kale up in a couple months, too. Then my freezer will almost be full again.

We enjoyed a 5 day get away last week and it was nice to have a change of scenery. I'm not sure how many more short trips we'll be able to make before we head south for Florida for the winter. Our weather is such that our grass still needs cutting and there is always something that needs to be done in the house or in the yard. I hope everyone has a good Thursday!

Good morning everyone, I'm up, but sleepy. Kept waking up and thinking OMG, what have I done, mixed excitement about the new 5ver Daughter's plane was delayed so she did not arrive until 10:30 pm last night. Getting ready to make a run to the store. I started to make a pot of chili 2 days ago, but we were gone all day and no time to get to the store and all the cupboards are bare. All the spices, tomato sauce, etc. are still sitting on the counter next to the crock pot. So gonna get everything started for chili, then off to the store!

My grandma always quoted Bette Davis (movie actress (1908 - 1989), "Getting old is not for sissies". Making these decisions are never easy. When taking car of my grandparents & parents I was reminded by a friend that was a child advocate, that we must remember the best interest of the child (substitute senior citizen). Like a child, our loved elders do not necessarily know what is best for them and as their loving family it is our responsibility to make those decisions for them, however painful to us thet may be. And blessed are the elderly that have family that love them enough to make these decisions. So my heart and prayers are with Dawn and Paul and the other Forum members that are dealing with these same issues.

Good Morning ladies,

Nope, getting older certainly isn't fun. Not only do those of you who still have aging parents living, have the issues that come with that, we also have the issues that come with our own bodies. My parents are both gone and I was fortunate that neither needed long term care as both were in great health up till mom got cancer and dad passed away from complications of open heart surgery at 87. But now as I get into my mid 60's I too am noticing there are things that I used to do with ease, that I can't do easy anymore.

There was a day when I could lift and move heavy objects, pick up and move various things with no thought and now i find that I can't quite do it anymore with out getting some additional muscle from somebody or something. This past weekend at the park, we were moving some wood benches that I could pick up and move easily years ago and now I need some extra hands if any are available. And driving the long 6 inch nails into the landscape ties the other day took a bit more strength than I used to used. I wondered how much longer i am going to be able to keep doing that stuff as time goes on. Grtanted I can still do this stuff, it's just getting a bit harder slow but sure. It's what is driving me to consider that it might be time to retire and do what i want to do if i can financially afford to do. Going to do some figuring out over the winter.

Glad to report that Ms. Tessa chomped down a hot dog and a chicken breast this morning, so her appetite seems to be returning. Now if she would just eat her regular food, I would be very happy. Maybe I need to change brands as they do get tired of the same old. So far have tried two different dry dog foods and neither seems to be turned on. Wish they made sample packages of dry dog food so you could try some different ones without having to buy a whole bag of it. Oh well, can always take it to the animal shelter.

Wound up not going anywhere yesterday other than to town and came home, worked out on another project which turned into a longer thing than I had plananed due to a flat tire on my tractors little hauling cart. It got so flat that it cam off the rim and i had to get it put back on before I could put air in it. Tried to use my neighbors air compressor but couldn't figure out how to get it going, so went back to the park and used the one over there instead. All told, it took me about an hour of fooling around with that dang tire before I got back to my project of hauling rocks from a flowerbed and also gravel in from the road side. I will probably finish it this afternoon after I get home from vet with Tessa. Just need to dig up dirt and transplant some Seedum Autumn Joy and that's it. Last of my outside projects before I leave for vacation on Sunday.

So guess i had better get moving here. Want to wash my hair, put away a load of laundry and make my bed. Tessa and I need to leave a bit before 11 and it's now pushing 9.

Good Morning Carolb, Irmi, Red and all that meander in for Coffee and what have you ...

I can certainly deal with those Golden Years.. I think I grew up with them as well..Living with Grand parents and parents, Aunts and Uncles..yeah our house was full..we had "Swing Shifts" in beds and living rooms..dinning rooms you name it... Our house was bursting at the seems..Every time one of our "family" members came into America they lived with us till they got on their feet...and we gave them their PUSH..hahaha...Just like when we came in ..

I grew up taking care of and helping out where ever I was needed and sent..Yeah Momma borrowed us out..some times I use to think it was to make more room for some one that needed a place too...but I do remember how sometimes we had such difficult decisions to make..those were the tuff days .

It never does come easy and so many mixed emotions.. I too keep praying that Dawn and Paul can persuade their Mom to start listening....and it's only to make her life much more enjoyable and livable ..Lord they sure need some peace of mind ..

Irmi, you sure have been busy too.. We didn't put (well I should say, "Hubby didn't) in a garden this year and in a way I was glad..too much for me with everything going on....but I do go to the Farmer's Market and bring home bushels of "stuff" and next week I'll be cooking for the Freezer so hubby will have things while I'm in Florida.. I've got my list a going and yep, I'll be talking to myself in my native language...hahaha..

Red, I can't wait to see this 5'er as you know we all are always Happy and Anxious to hear and see ...and of course you're first outing in that sweetie...Just remember to make yourself a "Check List"...that always comes in Extra Handy...

I've got a busy day to day and tomorrow..Lord help me I've got Cakes to Bake..but most all the stuff I had to make and then some is done..with an exception of tomorrow picking up the Shrimp I ordered ...I've already made the cocktail sauce
and yes, for those asking.. my crock pot is going today...Stew..and the left overs are already spoken for..LOL I'm making meat pies with that to put in the freezer...psst Pillsbury does a good job on pie crust so I don't mind the helping hand...

Oh Nancy, you asked about me wanting a restaurant...well I was raised in one ! Momma and Pop had one in Little Italy , NY and we all grew up cooking, waiting and cleaning..YIKES..and of course our family GTGs are like having a catering affair..hahaha...

Ok, I need to get a move on.. and surely hope I get to take a nap later on cause I do need mine...Yes, Carolb I'm in my Golden Years heading towards Platinum or maybe Bronze hahahaha..

Psst Sue, just saw your post...Hey, told ya about Ms Reba and her eating..well ya know if she will eat that so be it ..and let her enjoy till she gets going...in fact this morning Ms Reba ate on her own...and cleaned her plate.. I am little by little edging her dry food..(ground up) mixed in...Good Luck Sue..it took a long time for Ms Reba but I ain't saying NUTIN'..LOL

It definitely is harder getting older. The 50 lb sacks of feed I used to just throw over my shoulder, I now have to put in a wheel barrow to haul. We had our talk with Mom yesterday around 11 or so. She was not happy with either one of us, but especially me because I had yelled at her. I told her I had been calmly telling her to put her feet up, get a walk, etc. for days and she was not doing any of it. Told her when she took the compression hose off it was the last straw for me. We told her she needed to talk to us and tell us her thoughts and feelings. She said she had never been able to do that with anyone, so she just ran away from any confrontation or disagreement. We told her that was not going to work. Asked her if she wanted to lose her legs. She said she just did not care if she did. We brought up all the times she has threatened suicide to get us to give in to her. Told her that was not going to work anymore either. Upshot of all of this, she did agree to try walking more. She did get out and walk for a little bit yesterday. We will see if it continues. We really emphasized we did not need or want her doing chores. All we wanted was for her to enjoy her remaining years, but inorder for that to happen, she had to do her part and that was doing what it took to keep her health as good as it could be. Paul and I are going to take this one day at a time. If she goes back to just sitting, we will do whatever we need to do at that point. We both think when we get somewhere she has not ever been, she will be more interested in getting outside and walking. Unfortunately that will be a couple more weeks away since I have all the installations scheduled on my rig. We are going to leave this CG on Tuesday, though, and get in one closer to CW and the dealership. Going to look for one that will have more things of interest to her.

Another day of doing routine things...and to rest up....cause starting tomorrow, (after I do the bills.... ) we're going to do some sight-seeing and visiting of the local attractions....had to wait for payday, you know....

Morning all! And I understand the golden years - watching my mother struggle more each time I see her. She didn't really get to enjoy her "silver" years so much. Between my dad's health (cancer, stroke, cancer), my sister's cancer and death, and working until she was 75... And I've lost one uncle this year and may be losing another soon - golden???

And I got my bloodwork back yesterday - me who's never had cholesterol problems - my total used to be under the LDL recommendations - am now on the edge of being high. My blood sugar is over 100 for the first time ever. Nope, getting old is not for sissies!

Today is my last day this week - going to be running errands and doing some chores this weekend. Hope to get the Land Dinghy in shape for October trips and the TX GTG!!! Got to finish the table project. Then I need to sort what I will need for the National Dutch Oven Gathering (DOG) in a few weeks. I'm definitely going to learn. It's 2 weeks before the TX GTG so those ladies can be my guinea pigs - maybe!

I am able to use Jack's internet connection, and we have over 30 free TV channels over the air. I am SET!

Don't know if I told you all that I found the disc for Photoshop Elements yesterday while going through and sorting my "stuff"----it came with my Epson printer/scanner years ago, and I had forgotten I even had a disc! No now I have my favorite photo program on this new laptop, and I am psyched! I held my breath to see if it would work with Windows 7, and it didn't even hesitate to load and works like a charm. YIPPEE!!!

Issy and I are parked alongside Jack at the first Plattsburgh Bluegrass Festival. So far, the weather has been very cool, but mostly sunny. Tomorrow they are predicting showers, however. We shall see what actually develops.

It's very flat here, as you can see, and we are among the first to arrive. One of the bands is parked just ahead of us----Dave Nichols Band. Such very nice people they all are!

No time to read your entries as yet, but I will get back on later and read and then comment. Still a lot to do to batten down the hatches!
