Did ya ever have one of those days?

So I left Alabama and made my way to the campground on the Trace outside of Hohenwald. Since I needed to take my rig to Nashville for my brother to check out some things I decided to rest quietly by myself at the campground. Made a small campfire and heated a bowl of chili in my old iron skillet. So yummy. Also wrapped a couple of the leftover ears of corn from the night before in foil and put them in the coals. Forgot all about them till I was putting out the fire. And like a dummy I reached for one bare handed. Yep, I put it down quickly. But I do have small burns on the tips of three fingers on my right hand. But I kept going. Early the next morning I pulled out slowly because of the fog and headed up the Trace. Decided to get off and drive highway 412 to Columbia and cut across 840 via 65 to get over to Murfreesboro. Did you ever have one of those times when something just didn't seem right but you couldn't put your finger on it? I drove about 10 miles and couldn't figure out what was bothering me so I pulled over and did my walk around again. Good thing. I had driven about 12 miles with the emergency brake only half way released on my toad. I released it the rest of the way and moved on. Not much traffic early Sunday morning so I made it to the road to Pooke's Knob pretty easy, a place I camped last fall right after I moved out of the house. It's a narrow country road, as many good campgrounds are, and the vegetation was overgrown and well, I missed the turn in. And it's on a dead end - a very small dead end. If I hadn't been towing = no problem. But the turnaround was very small and although I did sweep a wide turn there was a deep ditch I had to miss and well, yes, I got in a bind. Took me 30 minutes but I got positioned to where I could unhook my toad and get my rig turned around and get to the check in where the camp hosts said I was the 4th one to miss the turn in this month. I bit back my smartass reply (why don't you trim around the sign or make a bigger sign?). Guess it was just one of those days.

Yeah I've missed a few turns in my day. Really sucks!!!! The worst one was when Carole and I were going to Monument Valley. Small sign, two lane road which deadended. Thought MAYBE I had enough room to turn around. Nope!. By now I'm totally blocking the road. I get out to unhook toad and Carole also gets out. Unfortunately as she was getting out she hits the door lock and slams the door. Now we're locked out of the RV with the keys in the ignition. I'm looking around and have no cell phone signal. I'm thinking "if I kill her no one will ever find her out here." Then, thank God, I remember I have an RV door key on the keys in my toad so she was safe. By the time I got disconnected, RV turned around, toad rehitched and drive off I had a crowd of Navajos standing in the blocked road watching the entire process. They applauded as I drove off.

OK Mitch - burns on your boobs?????? Give out with the story or we'll come get you.

Why did I pick up hot foil? Why did I try to turn around in a tight dead end? Leave the e brake on? Why do I breath? Just one of those damn days that fortunately come along rarely. Another rare day was today: my brother came over and fixed the broken windshield washer on my rv then stayed for a really fine super by the fire and nice long chat. I got all the details on his current cancer treatment. He looks so good and seems to be feeling fine. Makes days like Sunday seem small.

Some of us would be happy to have boobs large enough to singe, let alone burn.
