Electric grill?

Postby Yakn1 » Mon Sep 10, 2012 6:38 pm

Okay, maybe this should be in another section-but I'm sure Beth will move it if necessary

Does anyone out there use an outdoor electric grill? If so, do you like it?
We have a large gas grill, but I am tired of having to change out the gas lines, burners and the little tent things over the burner. Not that I cook that much outside - but maybe I will as it begins to cool down some here and being at the new house, I'll cook more

Let me know what you think...

Does it have to be an outdoor electric grill? I have an indoor one by GE i really like. It has interchangeable plates. Didnt like the Geo Foreman grill at all, like this much better. Leaves the juices in. Is 49 at Wmart. Wendy

I have an outdoor electric grill. Doesn't get anywhere near hot enough to grill a steak. And won't hardly do a thing in a cool breeze. The only thing I keep it around for is to season or re-season cast iron. Take that smoke outside.

The end.

I bought an electric grill on a pedestal for the RV. DH figured we were already paying for site with electric anyway. lol. You have to get it really hot before you grill and even then, it just doesn't taste the same. I still carry it but I also bought a small propane grill at Walmart which I use more often.

I had one of those too, I used to say it never got hot enough to actually cook anything, I think it bored the meat to death.

Probably 15 years ago we had a Sunbeam Electric Grill that we used a lot. When it burnt out I looked and looked for another but they must have quit making them.

We have an electric griddle that we use a lot. Meat doesn't get the smoked taste but it does a good job on most things. I even grill sliced squash on it.

That would be a reason to get one - I usually season my cast iron on the campfire when we are camping or on the gas camp stove - not very effective.

Thank you ladies!
I was guessing they don't really get hot enough for a lot of things. My cooking is boring by itself, without out getting "bored to death"
I'll be getting on the website to order new parts and rebuilding the grill. Why can't cooking be easier?

I, too, had a Sunbeam electric grill years ago and loved it. Only problem was cleaning it. That was a challenge. I also tried to replace it when it quit, but guess they stopped making them. I have a small charcoal grill, but for one person it's just not practical.

Last year I saw a different type of electric grill at a yard sale. Pounced on it right away. Yippee! Took Son #3 camping and the darn thing never got hot enough to actually cook anything! Threw it in the campground's dumpster. Guess I'll just stick to George when I'm alone and the charcoal when someone's with me and there's time.

I recently bought a weber-q grill. It's propane but uses those little bottles, or you can get a hose to hook it to larger propane tank. It is portable and fits into one of my outside bays so it can go along in the rv with me. I love it. It has a cast iron grill plate so it isn't going to rust away like traditional gas grills do eventually. Used to use charcoal, but hate having to wait half an hour for the coals to get right for cooking. I do have a George foreman that I use in the house, but hate cleaning the dang thing.

I use my George Foreman - inside and out. Won't put it in the rain - but on the table next to my electrical outlet. Used to have a great electric grill years ago - might be the one mentioned above. But I love the way my GF cooks - just got the tiny one now - and love using it outside when I can.

Haven't used it in traveling yet but I also have a GF and have been pleased with it.

Paulette - There's a secret to cleaning the Georges: Immediately after removing the food, pull the plug and slap a wet paper towel on the grill and close the cover. Steam loosens the stuck on food and, after eating, a few more paper towels clean the thing up completely.
