I too was reluctant to read this thread as I have strong political beliefs (which I don't like discussing with anyone since it won't change how I feel or vote). Glad to read that it is all civil and generic!
I also hate the mud slinging. It angers and confuses everyone and nothing good is accomplished from it other than making fools of those involved.
My dad went to a local parade this weekend which he normally loves, but said it was awful this time because it was all about politics. Cars full of politicians handing out political crap.
My friend Steve has opposite political views from me and as much as I try to avoid the subject, he continues to cram his beliefs down my throat at every possible chance. I just try to change the subject quickly. I hate when people do that. Same with religion. I have my beliefs and keep them personal and respect others beliefs, but really resent people who try to change my way of thinking in a pushy judgemental way. I am open to a nonjudgemental, thoughtful discussion but most people have too strong of beliefs to do that.
One of my pet peeves is when people don't vote and then they b%tch and complain about how things are run in this country. If you don't vote, you have no right to complain. Especially for us women, the women before us fought long and hard to gain the right to vote in this country and it is a shame that so many women choose not to exersize that right and privilage! Get out there and vote!!! We CAN make a difference!
Anyways, I am also glad this forum keeps things like politics and religion to a generic, respectful level and we can keep things open and fun on here!
