oh my goodness, just catching up here on borrowed internet. Been wantin to taste a little rattlesnake meat but I think I'll wait until some rattlesnake festival where the folks actually know how to cook em. I would have no clue, but I bet its a lot like frying chicken

I agree with the "holy crap". Not a fan of snakes of any kind altho they do keep the mice/rat problem down in the canyons in California where I used to live. I'll take a "rattlesnake" over the damn water mocasins(sp) out here that don't give any warning sound. Another reason I don't go in the rivers out here - those things can swim.

This guy made no sound either, he was just slithering along. Only because of the birds did we even see him. Apparently birds don't care for snakes.

The guys that killed him, were discussing what they would do with him. They sure thought his skin was great. They took him away in a big bucket to dispose of him. Never ate snake but sure if that is in your diet it would be delicious (NOT)

But today at the rock house we had a fantastic lunch. Tomorrow we are going to cook something up.

They will eat birds' eggs and they also can swim when necessary and they are not only in the west.

They were perhaps little starlings. Not sure, but very small and fluttered just like a hummingbird. So glad the birds got our attention.

Nan - The little birds are finches, I think.

If Photobucket will cooperate I'll post few pixs under GTG thread.

Wendy - You should have come back today. The real missed sight was the kayak launch (I did get pix).

Wendy there is a whole educational section to be started on Sex in the Freezer!! Vicki explained how this worked, sounds like a great idea to try it. Being so cold it is a very nice slow process. You don't need to worry too much about frost bite. But a good time can be had by all.

Just me the "Great Snakeologist" piping in to say that it appears to be a "bull snake" as the pattern in striped and not diamond and in the photo of the man holding it there doesn't appear to be a rattle. We had bull snakes where I spent time as a child and they can be huge...but are not poisonous...if you pick them up and hassle them they will snap at you but no venom....Bet you moved your chairs from the back of the rigs near the bushes to the front away from the bushes...

She said there were 12 rattles. The timber rattlesnake may appear more striped than diamond configuration. I bet that's what it was. Here's a pic from Outdoor Alabama. And mind you, I hate even looking at snake pictures.
