Labor Day Coffee

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Labor day departures & arrivals

Postby Redetotry » Mon Sep 03, 2012 9:15 am

Good morning everyone. Is the summer truly coming to a close, from the temperature outside our house it doesn't feel like it but I always start to be hopeful of lovely cool fall days when Labor Day arrives. Yesterday I had my first persimmon of the season and it was wonderful. I so look forward to them every year. There are several trees beside the parking lot at the little market where I frequent and I always watch for them to start to ripen. I pick them even when they aren't quite ripe and let them sit out for a few days till they are nice and squishy.

Dawn will start a new chapter of her life this morning as she heads out. It has been a long, difficult transition for her and I hope it will soon be a wonderful new beginning, Happy Trails Dawn.
Tina, Nan, Beth, Sharon and Anita are winding down their wonderful Alaskan adventures which they have so generously shared with us.

The table is full and ready for all who enter our kitchen. Enjoy and share your morning with us.

Labor Day Coffee

Postby dpf » Mon Sep 03, 2012 9:27 am

Okay, I have the day off so I’ll start. But it seems that I have a way of killing a thread. There is coffee in the pot and still some cranberry bran muffins left. Hey..the recipe makes a big batch.

Think I’m going to run to Wally World in Yankton for a stock-up trip. Bowed out of going to the Labor Day parade in the neighboring town. It’s an election year…so between all the politicians and the saddle clubs there would just be too many horse’s behinds. DH has to stay after the parade and work in the VFW concession stand. I can’t see wandering around for four to five hours waiting for him.

Hope you have a safe and happy day regardless of where you are and what you are doing
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.

Morning~ Lazy day here! I should have gone camping this weekend but was afraid every place would be packed. Then heard from friends that their favorite spot had lots of openings. Huh? Wish I had known in time because it's about 3.5-4 hours away. But I do have reservations for my closest state park in a couple of weeks. Gotta get the cobwebs and kinks worked out before the TX GTG!!!

Good morning all. I like dpf new avatar as well. All the AK wanderers are on their way south. I will miss the wonderful posts from the 49th state. So happy that Dawn is ready to hit the road. Happy Echo is on the mend. Pray everyone else has a great Labor Day.

I still have a sore, stiff neck and back and headaches. Having an accident just before a 3 day weekend is not convenient to get Dr. appts :( Resting and sleeping and massage :) I am gun shy about getting into the passenger seat of a car for now.

I looked in the fridge this AM and found a slice of grilled spam. Last might DH grilled spam. He likes to slice it, grill it and make a sandwich. I never liked spam. But while living in Hawaii you see spam everywhere. They serve it in restaurants, even McDonalds. And every checkout counter has spam musubi (spam sushi). So I made myself a little touch of the islands breakfast. Sticky rice with soy sauce, the slice of spam on top, then topped with a fried egg!! Accompanied with a cup of mocha, coconut flavored coffee. Took me back to my favorite McDonalds on Wakiki beach....where I fed all the starving kids after a morning of surfing 8-)

Wishing everyone a fun and safe Labor Day. Aloha y'all

Good morning from the left coast.

Just got back last night from a long trip to Idaho to get my uncle ready to go to an assisted living facility. We packed up a few valuables and some other things in anticipation of him moving later this week. It seems that everything he has is made of lead, cast iron or steel. In other words, everything was REALLY heavy LOL My Mom will go back up next weekend or the weekend after to clean out his apartment. He has had a tough life and doesn't have much but what he does have is important to him. He appreciated the fact that we took the time to save the important stuff.

It was so nice to meet Ellen in the middle of all that and really enjoyed the respite from all the packing. She did pick our brains about rving and we are both excited for her. She asked all the right questions and we had a great time. Am so looking forward to spending more time with her and everyone else at the gtg in a few weeks.

Today I have to switch gears and get all my weekend chores done in one day. I guess I don't get the day off....sigh

Everyone have a great day!!!

Good morning! Ok, it's afternoon now . . . but I spent a long time enjoying a phone call with my sister, so I'll pretend it's morning, eh?

A happy labor day to one and all.

Pat, I like your description of the horse's behinds in the parade. We have the Cattle Festival parade coming up in October and it will be the same thing.

I just got back from the lake. Got too much sun and not enough fish. It was pretty breezy and the lake is so large that it doesn't take much wind to make white caps. My sister and I like it up there. It's just far enough that our family can't bother us. The last few times we have been there are very few people camping. There were a few water skiers. The love bugs were out in full force. I need to wash my motorhome when it cools off a little.

Martha, get your rv cleaned up and ready, Karen and I will be there by Thurs at the latest as long as the roads stay open and another hurricane doesn't decide to make land there!!

Pat, I'm another one that loves your new avatar! Very nice! The recipes you posted sound great! I make something similar to the dressing for the grape salad for kiwi and strawberries.

Raining here...haven't had hardly any rain since I've been here but let me need to get the car hooked up and clean the windshield and it rains! Jeesh! Leaving here in the morning for Louisiana. Should be there Thurs at the latest.
