Welcome! So glad you found us. I love that term and can't wait till I can use it more than I do now.

Welcome!

As already said - I am a shunpiker and didn't know the term. Love it though and will use it often now, I'm sure. Backroads are so much more fun to travel (IMHO). That said, occasionally, I find myself on those dreaded roads - but sometimes they aren't avoidable.

I think it's great that you know what you want and how you want to travel. I started out without a clue, as I didn't like camping. But as soon as I had a little rig with it's own potty, sink, fridge - well, a whole different world opened up to me. And now with solar - OMG - I could be out for long, long times and disappear into crazy areas and be happy as a bug in a rug. Hmmmm. don't want to think about that phrase.

Glad you're here, and hope to meet you on the road one day.

Hi Louise and welcome to the forum. We look forward to hearing lots more from you. I love the new word we all learned too. I am heading out for my first CG as a full timer today. This is a new adventure for me and I am sure I will have lots of questions too as time goes by. This group of ladies is great and I am glad you are giving us the opportunity to get to know you better too. By the way, we love pictures!

Welcome to the forum. I see you are from Michigan and wanting a van. Well...Colliemom posted this on the morning coffee the other day and it sounds like a wonderful deal. I drive a similar van called a Pleasure Way and from all my shopping I can say, this price is very good. If you contact her you could get the details. Do you know how to send a PM?

Colliemom wrote "There is a 2005 Roadtrek 190 Popular, up for sale just up the road from me here. It's in excellent condition, having been garage kept. Only has 43,000 miles on it. Gen, fridge, micro, stove and what not. Haven't seen the inside, but from what I saw through the windows, looks like the owner really took care of this baby. Asking $33,500 for it."

Thanks for pointing that out, Redetotry. It sounds like a great price for a good rig. I can't buy until a lump-sum settlement reaches me, and it's sure taking its sweet time! Until then, I'm looking and thinking and planning -- and getting excited!

Oh, Bethers, it's so funny that you didn't like camping and now go to all kinds of remote places. Was it the tent that got you? One of my sisters is like that. I'm hoping she'll come along on a few adventures with the van. Now my other sister is a different story; she prefers tents. Go figure!

Hello Louise,
My name is Louise as well. I don't have an RV as yet but will the first of the year. Right now my family and I are going to the PA RV show to see if I can get this narrowed down. Hope to meet you on the road, isn't this exciting.

Welcome
. You're teaching us things already. I guess I 've been a shunpiker all my life and didn't know the term. Hope to see you around the campfire sometime. When you only have a few days try Ontario for a weekend escape. I myself often escape to Michigan.

Welcome, and good luck with everything. I found RV shopping sometimes overwhelming at first with all the things and options they have now. Incredible, something for everyone it seems. I'm personally glad I went with a bus conversion. I feel very safe in it and full timing now over the long term doing some work and travel I really like a bus. I understand that some RV resorts and campgrounds hire story tellers and my favourite are ghost stories. I'm going to see about making a go of that, being a professional ghost story teller.

Cheers.

Hi Louise!

As she said (Roadweaver), my mom's name is Louise too. Boy is this going to be confusing!

I'd totally forgotten about the term "shunpiking". I'd heard about it years ago on a show about the old travel roads and loved it. Glad to see it back! YAY SHUNPIKING!

OK... shutting up now... Chardonnay making me silly...
