Damp Monday morning

Hi all,

Where is everybody? Guess you are all either watching and getting ready for Isaac if you are in the southern areas where it might hit and the rest of you are just moving slowly or off to work this morning.

My 4 legged alarm clocks woke me up before I wanted to get up this morning as it's my day off. But I do have things I want to do, so got up and had some frozen pancakes for breakfast. Still have a few left if anybody wants some, plus sausage too. Or toast. Other wise you can fight over the last two eggs. Shopping trip coming up this morning.

I have a feeling that Isaac is going to be affecting the weather for those of us way up here as well. When those tropical storms or hurricanes come inland, the alter the weather patters coming across the country, so who knows what kind of weather we shall have. Long range forecasts are calling for sunny and warm this week. For those of you who are in Isaac's path, keep safe and keep an eye out as I know you all are. I do agree with Red on the "hype" as the weather people do tend to go a bit overboard, but our safety is their main concern and I know that those of you who live in the areas where tropical storms and hurricanes do occur are always prepared and will evacuate if it looks like things are going to get way worse. We go through that too in winter, when a storm is coming. They really build it up, but those of us who live here, just make our preparations and deal with it. Sometimes the whole thing fizzles out after all the hyperbole. But there are those, no matter where you live, you never pay attention to weathe forecasts, or pooh pooh the whole thing and then get themselves into deep trouble if not killed, so I guess a little hype might be a good thing.

Alice, hope nothing happens to your beach house. You did such a great and beautiful job with that new addition. It just set the place off. Probably will get a lot of rain maybe. You stay safe, you hear. We all worry about you and everybody else down there.

As for me, my deck trim painting project is on hold for now. It rained last night so everythings damp. However, it looks like it's going to clear up and the sun coming out, so maybe this afternoon it will dry enough to do it. Wanted to paint my clothes poles as well.

So, guess I am going to get moving here. Need to do a quick cleaning of my bathroom, run a vac, get cleaned up to head to the paint store, bank and grocery store this mornig, then come home and get busy. Time if moving along here. Have a good day all.

Good morning Sue and everybody else. I know the media over-hypes the storms, but they always over do any story. Hey, Loews and Home Depot gotta sell all those supplies they stock for hurricane season. I think they are trying to get the people that don't pay attention and are complacent to wake up and pay attention Hopefully Isaac will stay a Cat 1 and will not cause too many problems ! Evryone in the effected area, please stay safe.

I am sitting here having coffee and read about the passing of Hershal and crying. I never met him in person, but felt like I knew him and Remi and Stuart on their Alaska adventure with Tina. I know he is now free from pain, but the lose of a fury friend is never easy. My heart aches for Tina.

I'm doing laundry and getting ready to take DH to have a procedure done to his "good" knee. The right leg is trashed (long story), and they are going to inject stuff to help preserve the one that still sort of works.

Red - is it Synvisc? Been there, done that - the first 2 injections really seemed to help.

Watching Isaac's path inch westward. I think we are going to stay dry with just some tides and wind. But worry about Martha and Vickie and Ronnie.

Can't believe this weekend is Labor Day. Where did the summer go? But we will start getting into prime camping weather here soon. It's funny that what's prime for Sue isn't for us and vice-versa.

So sad about Herschel. He seemed like such a great dog.

One of the local reporters was talking to someone at Home Depot and the hurricane supplies went to Florida. Now they are trying to get things back here.

My DH left with the new mower to bring it and the trailer to a friends house. I will get the motorhome to town today to get that out of the way. The horse and dog will go to another friends. I am picking up anything electrical stored in the old house and putting it in the top of a closet. We shouldn't get any water if it goes in East of here but who knows where it will go. Don't worry about us, we will be out of here tomorrow.

We're staying put as of this morning, but will work today to have things ready, should need to evacuate come. Our biggest threat will depend on the rainfall and flooding. We have flood insurance and have been through 8in. in the house back in 2006. If the water looks like it is going to come in, my family (sister lives two houses down and nephew 3 houses down) will come and remove furniture and raise everything possible. There's gas in the rv geny and we'll move in there if the electricity is out. That's the plan for now, we'll wait, watch and adjust as needed. Martha, are you going to your sister's in DeRidder? I think I saw where Carolyn is going to their family home in Lafayette. Anybody know or had any word from gjkl?

Nice and sunny morning here in Grand Canyon, although it rained late yesterday afternoon and is expected to rain again today. I just got here yesterday and have not even seen the canyon, but since i have 6 more days, there is no hurry. I have to grade a few oral presentations (videotaped) and then I am heading off to sightsee.

Sue, you are amazingly ambitious with all the work you do around your house. Seems like you are always mowing, painting, fixing, or whatever. Are you sure you want to own a house???

My cousin from West Palm Beach said they had horrible storms all night with multiple power outages. Not quite a hurricane classification there, but certainly a big storm. She warned people not to take it lightly.

No, Vickie, I'm not going to DeRidder. Need to stay closer to help Harold. After we get everything moved in the morning we will go to Lafayette. I haven't talked to Gloria since our last GTG. She lives near Baton Rouge so they should be ok. My step daughter called and they are leaving New Orleans and heading for her sister's in Lafayette. She said when Jim Cantorie comes to town she leaves.

Everyone in the new projected path of Isaac stay safe! We're all watching the projected path and worrying about all of you.

Worked on Mom's house today. I got her guest room, guest bath and office completely cleared out! Paul got most of her kitchen cleared out. Next we have her livingroom and bedroom and bath. I am hoping to have everything in her house finished before the end of the week.

Got really bad news late this afternoon and need everyone's prayers. My granddaughter has been having tests run to find out what has been wrong with her. Final test results came in today. She has Graves Disease. This has caused her to have hyperthyroidism. Her heart and liver are damaged and not working properly now. She has extremely low blood glucose levels because of it too. It is really serious and the doctor tried to get her scheduled for radiation treatments on an emergency basis today. No one could take her. He called in about a 100 mile radius, from what my daughter told me. He was able to get her scheduled for Friday. She has to go in on Thursday for some preliminary things. My daughter made a statement about possibly losing her job with all that will be going on now. She said she was more thinking out loud, but the doctor took her seriously. He told her she had a choice, she could lose her job or she could lose her daughter. I am very scared right now. My granddaughter has been struggling to get her weight up to about 100 pounds. She was down to about 89 pounds just about a month ago. My daughter has been taking the granddaughter to the doctor over and over again saying something was really wrong. My granddaughter is 19 and there is only so much the doctors will let her mother do. The doctor just kept telling my granddaughter she needed to eat more. I think he thought she was anorexic. She was eating all the time trying to put weight on, but it just kept falling off her. Last week, my daughter pitched a ring tailed fit in the doctor's office and told him she wanted him to run every test he could think of to find out what was wrong with her daughter. He finally listened! My granddaughter said her mother was yelling and would not stop. I cannot believe it took that for the doctor to finally do something. Before this, he kept telling my granddaughter that she just had anxiety issues and was giving her antianxiety medicine along with telling her she had to start eating!

If the radiation treatments don't work, she will have to have surgery and have her thyroid removed. She will be on medication for the rest of her life now. She is in bed now and is not allowed any kind of exertion until they can get her started on the radiation treatments. Everything right now is life threatening to her because of all the damage already done. The doctor did tell my daughter today that if she had not pitched such a fit to have the tests run, my granddaughter would probably not have lived much longer. I had never heard of this disease until today so will be doing a lot of reading tonight. I am scared because I am worried she does not have the physical reserves to go through the radiation treatments. She is so weak and frail.

Please pray for her. My daughter is already devistated over the loss of her Daddy, if something were to happen to her daughter too, I don't know that she could pull through that.

Sometimes throwing a fit is exactly what you have to do to get attention. Doctors tend to think you have the most common thing, and they make a lot of assumptions about your age and body appearance that can be misleading. Glad your daughter did what she did.

I learned that you can also have two things wrong with you at once--while recovering from knee replacement, I came down with acute pancreatitis. If my personal physician's nurse had not insisted I return to the hospital after my abdominal pain had been diagnosed as constipation, I could have died.

I wholeheartedly recommend being a bad patient and making a fuss when you know something is not right.

Wow Dawn, I am so sorry to hear about your granddaughter! How scary! Good thing your daughter kept fighting for more tests. Some doctors are so lazy. Hope this was a wake up call for him! Hopefully, the radiation will work and she can live a good long life, even if she has to take meds for it. Will keep you and her in my prayers!

Dawn- With all you have going on, another scare isn't good for you, either! About the doctor - I know they're trained, "If you hear hoofbeats, don't look for zebras," but if we don't sometimes look further when we DON'T see a horse, how would anyone ever see a zebra at all? Thankfully, your daughter saw past the doctor's training and insisted on looking for a zebra.

Be thinking of your grand daughter Dawn. Doctors like to think they are the highest but they have been wrong more than once!! Good for your daughter sticking to her daughter's rights/feelings.
