Rainy Sunday Morning

Good morning everyone!

I have out of the loop for almost a week as I haven't been able to get on the internet. Since I was going to be in Dover DE this past Friday, I dropped my laptop off at Best Buy for the Geek Squad to see what was going on with it. They did a band-aid fix and it worked Friday evening when I got home, but that was it. A dear friend that was the computer guru for BWI airport until her retirement worked on it yesterday, and so far so good. It feels nice being able to stay in touch.

My thoughts are with Alice, with her being in the path of the hurricane. I hope Vickie, Mitch and any others in the south will be ok.

Since it's raining in MD, I may stay inside and read today. My garden has done well this year and I've put up lots of spaghetti sauce. Yesterday I blanched and froze some tomatoes for future use. My parents and sister are ok, too. Hopefully all is ok with the rest of you. Have a good day everyone.

I know how frustrating computer & internet problems are - glad you're back on line. We finally got some rain here in the Kansas City area last night - not much but anything is better than nothing at this point.

I'm finding my new travelin' machine is like having a new hobby. I had parked it after my hurried 3-day drive home Sunday night & finally took it for a little drive yesterday. Between work, the house & now my new toy, there isn't much time for anything else.
Driving out to Lawrence (about 25 miles away) later today to show it off to my youngest & her beau. They're seniors at KU so of course a visit to Target or Walmart will be in order to get a few more supplies... I'm sure they'll love being carted around in my behemoth van. Need to cherish this final year with her as she wants to head out to LA to be with her brother next year. (I see that as more destination road trips )

I've spent most of my time this week reading up on things - what kind of oil to use (it needed a bit before I can get it in for servicing), studied on how to change the oil on the generator, how to empty the tanks & it goes on & on.... I think once I finally start doing things it'll be better but right now mostly I study & research... I guess the learning never ends with these things....

Hope everyone in the path of Isaac is ok.

Good Morning Irmi and Catherine..and to all that slide into home port here

I saw on the news this morning that you all got a soaking and I'm just a hop skip and a jump from you in Pa..but we were cloudy yesterday and this morning Sun is blinding me at the moment as it's checking in on my window pane..

Catherine, I know you are filled with such excitement and you know we all feel it with you too...cause we've all had that first moment and still even after over 45 years of RVing..I get that funny feeling in my stomach..when all you Newbies and other's get new rigs too...I can't wait to read all about your Adventures and meetings with a lot of the Sistah's through your travels..

Barbie, are you packed yet ? Sure hope you move into your Dad's house..although you know we always have bail money easily collected... Please, please leave that place....non of us want to see you in a mess !

Lori, great pictures of you and the Sultan and the Sistahs..sure was nice to see everyone having a good time..!

Yesterday was a very busy day for us..(family visit) and YEPPERS it was LOUD and Food omg..we could have fed an Army..sent everyone packing with Take Me Home goodies..cause I'd be as big as a barn if it stayed ..shhhhh I'm getting there
By the way that Banana Bread Bars with Brown Butter was out of sight..it was delish and to top it off my niece added some toasted coconut to it..OMG ..it took it over the top...it was GONE...not even a crumb..so that's on my list of something I will make when I get visits from the "Sistahs"...(all hear that ?????)

Today is just fall out and of course I have a Italian Pot Roast on the Stove for dinner and hubby wanted it for Sandwiches as he has to go out of town a few days this week..(get this he's packin' a lunch)..says "he's tired of eating fast foods"..Works for me..now maybe I'll get him to take more left overs..OMG..did I say that word hahaha...He's always been a fuss pot...my, my how time does make a different turn...

That's about it for me other than I'm doing a little bit of laundry (towels and table cloths) and then I'm gonna just take it easy till dinner time..as hubby goes off to teach Sunday School and then Church...He's a good man, he prays for us all and of course tells me about my "Lost Soul"...LOL...God Bless that man of mine !!!

Those of you that are traveling..please listen to that weather man and "Alice, Martha, Sharlotte, Vickie, Carolyn, please stay safe as I see Isaac is turning path again...Keep in touch with us all...PLEASE..

Morning all!

Irmi, glad to see you online again. Not sure I could go a week without Internet. It's hard to imagine that not that many years ago, everyday was a day without Internet.

Catherine, I am so glad to see you enjoying your huge van so much! I still have so much to learn about my new MH too. Haven't even started reading about how to maintain the genny yet. When I get parked at first CG, going to take each of the instruction books and go through them one by one. Since they came in one big plastic bag, figure I will put together a binder to get them organized and easy to keep up with.

Mom spent her first night in the MH. That air mattress is a disaster! The fold up bed from the sleeper sofa in the 5er was so much easier. I am definitely going to do some research to find out how to get a fold up bed for her we can just do like the one in the 5th wheel. She loved that bed. It could stay made up with her sheets and blanket and just pulled out at night. When she was ready for bed, she just pulled it up and out and she was good to go. There is no way she can handle the air mattress on her own. She is still asleep with her feet on the floor and her head on the mattress. No way can she be comfortable. The way this is, she would be more comfortable just putting sheets and blanket on the couch leaving it as a couch.

I see Alice is in the path of Isaac now. Please stay safe everyone in Florida and the south. Sure hoping Isaac doesn't spawn any tornadoes as it cuts across Alabama and Georgia.

The concern at Panama City Beach, FL with the approaching hurricane is flooding. This month, we have had 10-14 inches of rain that hasn't completely dried out yet.

I will be safe here but very wet. Those in mobile homes and rv's should consider possible relocation in my opinion. But as of now, no suggestion of evacuation, even for them, has been made.

If I didn't live here and hadn't already been through quite a few hurricanes, the news folks would have me scared to death. I really wish they wouldn't over hype so when it IS necessary to evacuate, we believe them. I am in prep mode but the news seems to want us in panic mode.

am watching details of the hurricane and keep checking our forum map to see who's in danger. It doesn't look good.
Have my uniforms in the washer right now as I didn't do them yesterday. Then later on I'll make a trip to Costco, son
wants me to pick up some pop for his pop machine then stop by Frys for electricity. I should have hit him up for gas
money while he was dishin out the bucks I have no idea what time it opens but I think 9:30 sounds pretty safe.
Guess I could google it and see if the hours are listed.
Been working on a list of things needed and needed to be done for the reset of the Cameo in the spring. The time
is getting closer and I'm getting more excited about getting home. My list is getting longer but I want it all done
BEFORE I move in as I don't want to be stepping over stuff thats getting worked on.

Taking a break from the Weather Channel to watch Sunday Morning. I hope we don't over-dose on the Weather Channel. I'm with Alice on all the hype. They seem to get so excited that they have a storm to talk about. So far it looks like it will go East of us. It's better for it to pass East of you than West but some of these storms are huge and push so much water no side is good. We don't have the marsh we use to have between us and the gulf. Hope it doesn't mess up Alice's beautiful beach house.

I'll probably go gas up my motorhome today and the trucks. I filled up the van yesterday. We have enough bottled water and canned food. I don't think we will have to move all the equipment and vehicles but need to be ready.

Up early in Kingman, AZ, doing some laundry and getting ready to head off for a week in Grand Canyon where I will start to learn how to live slow.

Horribly hot yesterday driving from Bakerfield, CA. Could have stopped in Needles, but temps were 106, and I knew it was "only" 92 here in Kingman, so I drove on--no stops anywhere except for gas. Would have liked to stop at Lake Havasu City and some other places, but will save them for another time of year.

Nice RV park here (Fort Beale RV Park) if anyone is ever out this way. Only $28 for full hookups and the grounds are spotless. They actually have raked the gravel between spots and the roadways are paved--no dust at all. (Only negative is a LOT of trains blowing their whistles all night. Mostly this does not bother me.) Gas prices also dropped when I crossed into AZ from CA--by a whopping 60 cents a gallon.

Looking forward to getting to higher elevations and cooler temps. Grand Canyon is supposed to be in upper 70s and lower 80s for highs, which is about how i like it!

Irmi, hope the repair on computer is good. I suspect the techs at the stores get a quickie course, just enough to last until the short if any warranty is out. We have a local guy who is really getting great word of mouth of advertisement. He grew up with my son and was always inclined toward all things technical.
You are such a good cook and preserver. My mouth waters when I even see you or Barbzee have posted. My mother was such a great cook and I just didn't get those genes. I cooked for my family all those years and they seemed to be satisfied (of course I cooked what they liked) but that satisfaction one should feel while rattlin those pots and pans was never there. My mind was on my sewing machine. That is on the back burner now but next thing is quilting. Maybe at the Canyon Springs GTG (still not sure I can go but hopeful) Dawn and others who quilt can get me started.
Dawn, I'm sure there is a solution to the bed issue. I know you want this experience to be a great one for your mother. My mother would never have done something like this with me. I tried to talk her into going places with me (staying in motels) but the only place she would go was to see Kelly (DD) while she was in Knoxville. She didn't seem to be able to relax and enjoy herself and was miserable while in the Smokies. I'm sure your mom knows how fortunate she is also.
I wish I could start a topic with Rainy Sunday. I am watering every single day, if my hydrangeas miss one day they hang their little heads. I cut off all the old blooms and they seemed to really thank me as the next day they were setting more blooms. I think by the time I get serious about showing the house it will show real well inside and out. I think I must have injured the water moccasin enough (with a hoe) for it to die or crawl away. I really don't want anyone to be looking at the pond and suddenly that ugly thing slithers into the water ..I might have to say "Oh no, that's never happened before "(just a little while lie)

The Grand Canyon. Oh how I wish I was there with you Judy. Been there once for a Thanksgiving weekend. Woke up to a dusting of snow and 3 deer grazing outside. They have so many activities you in which you can participate. Nature programs, guided hikes, camp fires. It is one of those places you can be alone or with other people and share the experience!!!


Hurricanes!!!! I have sat through 12 in the middle of the Pacific. 2 in Hawaii while in a S & B and lived without power for 2 weeks. The rest at anchor on a sailboat in Polynesia. I will never forget the one that we had 5 anchors out and ran shore lines to shore and tied around the coconut trees. When the hurricane was over 17 yachts were blown ashore. Only 3 were still afloat (including us). There was total devastation on the island. I saw the flatened buildings and people (including children) dead on the ground where they were struck by flying trees or patio chairs or other debris after their house was blown over. They did not take the warnings to go to the shelters and by the time they decided they could NOT wait it out in their homes, it was too late. I don't think trying to get people to prepare can be shouted loud enough. Sometimes, I think the TV hype is necessary. So many people dont take the warnings seriously and then get themselves into real trouble or dead. Most of the time, you don't need to do anything, but a little preparation saves lives. Please, all of the sistahs near the threat of Isacc, stay safe.

Alice, don't think you can hurt anyone's feelings. Certainly not mine. Just opinions. Everyone has different life experiences on which to base their opinions No judgement. I apologize if I said something to offend or upset you.

Mitch, the hurricane (called cyclones in S. Pacific) I mentioned was on Moorea in April 1983. French Polynesia had 6 others that year we sat through. But we were in the direct path of the one on Moorea. When we were sent there the fall of 82 we decided it was safe. There had not been a hurricane that hit French Ploynesia since 1906!! Talk about Mr. Murphy as a passenger

No one has to tell us twice to evacuate but I know people that have left South Louisiana and ended up in Arkansas or Dallas. When they get that many people on the road most can't find a place to stay so just keep driving. I think it was for Rita that more people died in the evacuation than the storm. Every year they get a little better with the shelters and transportation. Around here they won't open any shelters South of I-10 or let the motels stay open if there is a mandatory evacuation. That's a lot of people on the move.

I went through Hurricane Audry near Lake Charles where about 400 people died in Cameron. I was about 12 and that left a big impression on me. We saw 18 wheeler trailers coming in with coffins.
