It looks like our GTG is canceled. Carolyn got a call from Sharon that she was going West a ways to get out of the path of Isaac. I was looking forward to seeing them but maybe later and in Texas for sure. We won't know where the storm is going until Monday or Tuesday and then it could still change.

LA GTG Update

Postby sharon » Fri Aug 24, 2012 6:05 pm

Well, it looks like Isaac has thrown a monkey wrench into our plans!  Karen and I have spent a lot of time on the phone agonizing over this, but with all of the trees in that cg and still up in the air over which way the hurrycane is gonna go we've decided to postpone this for a while...not give up, just postpone. Karen is gonna hang in Tn and I'm gonna stay here in Warm Springs, Ga until Tues, see whats what and go one of two ways...either head for higher ground or stay here until the 7th or 8th and then head to LA. We're not giving up on trying to spend time with Carolyn and Martha. :D Looks like the weather won't be bad the week of the 7th and we should be able to get in the cg w/o a problem since school's back in. So as of now, Friday the 24th, that's the plan. Talk about plans made in jello, these have turned into slush!!

I merged your new post, Sharon, with the gtg post - as it seems they were already talking about you cxling before you came and did it lol. Hope you can go ahead with it - maybe a few days different in time. And if what Alice posted on FB is right - you could just change your mind again, and head to La and gtg! Cuz if that map holds true, you'll have it worse in GA.

Man, I thought I was losing my mind!! Or what little mind I have left! I knew I had posted, I saw it, and then it was gone! Beth, it's not nice to mess with an old lady!! :? I'm still gonna hang here for a few days and see what happens, they still don't know if Isaac is gonna go further west. Still planning on going to LA, but will probably wait until the 7th or so. There's a lot of rain forecast for there the week before, so might as well wait until we can get some sunshine and I like it enough here to spend more time. So far they're forecasting winds of 25mph here on Wed and I can live with that. Henderson is just a little to close to the coast for comfort and the cg there has a LOT of trees to blow over.

And yes, Vickie, after going thru a hurricane in Fla many years ago, it's not something I want to do again! At least there's not any trees near me to fall on Hope. ;)

Sharon - I was still wavering until I say a storm headed for the Gulf. I know how off the forecasts can be - Ike was supposed to go into Mexico until like the day before. And I don't think my little trailer would like much more than 40 mph winds. I've been through a couple of thunderstorms with the wind up and that was enough.

I'm like Maggie, I've seen too many hurricanes change course. They are just making an educated guess. When we headed out for Florida tropical storm Debbie was headed West. When we woke up the next day it was headed East. It was never more than a tropical storm but there was a lot of flooding from the rain. I wouldn't want to be going to the convention in Tampa. That could be a nightmare. Hope they have a better plan than New Orleans had.

At least when you live on the mainland you can get into a vechicle and drive out of harms way from a threatening hurricane. When you live on an island in the middle of the Pacific your only choice is to hunker down and pray

I'm leaving out of Tampa for NYC on Sunday. More worried about the RNC traffic and road closures than the storm. I figure they will cancel flights if the wind is too strong. tGM plans on hunkering down in Sarasota and turning the MH to face the wind  You never know what will happen once the storm hits the gulf. Lived in FL just about my whole life and it's always a wait and see. carold
