Got HIM!

Postby carolb » Mon Aug 20, 2012 4:01 pm

Ladies! :P I have my sweet HarBor (who is a "him"!) :D Doing the happy dance!!!!! I was going to do an overnight road trip here in FL, but the RAIN! Torrential! We had a brief break, so I took him for a spin on I 75, and now my traveling feet are ready to go! But need to wait til tomorrow to get the tow dolly for my car :( My dogs are loving him too--they've already staked out their seats!!!! I've been packing him, covering the seats (dog protection!), and had to fashion a "stop" for the passenger side window control. Good old Tigg stands on it and opens it!!!! AND I keep misplacing my keys! That's my project for now--finding something big and bulky to attach them to! I've taken pix of him parked here at the farm, but still haven't even come close to figuring out posting! Hmmmm, I could send the website so you can see pix...is that "legal"??? :? He's a beauty, but then aren't they ALL!!???? :D

Sooooo I'll be on the road north around 2-3 pm tomorrow--I know you'll all be wishing me well, so I THANK YOU for that! I'm very blessed indeed...Met Catherine, now can't wait to meet more of you!!! :D Carol B, Ape (April) and Tigg (Tigger) 8-)

woohoo!!!
My Lumina years ago had the window switch like that too and Bandit stepped on it one time when he head was sticking out, he choked himself before
I could reach over and take his foot off the switch. Luckily I was able to disable the switch by means of a child safety switch from the master side of
the car. Maybe yours is set up like that.

CONGRATS, CAROL! I can't wait to see a picture, or twelve, or so, of HIM! How exciting it is to get a neat rig to travel about in with our 4-footers!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain

Thanks so much :D ! My pups crawled in my HarBor while I was packing and have been sleeping there ever since. Guess that's where I'll be sleeping tonight--listening to the RAIN! Oh, Avalen, so glad you escaped a near tragedy with you Lumina!!!! I'll check for safety features! I'm usually asleep by 8:00, but too hyped tonight to get to sleep. Plus, the rain and the breeze are so refreshing!!!! Thanks to all of you for sharing my happiness with me! :D I'll keep you posted on my travels home....

Congratulations, now the fun begins.

On a trip with my son's 2 big cats they kept stepping on the door locks so I taped lids over the controls. One of the things I'm anal about are vehicle keys because I have been locked out so may time by my kids. Believe me, you don't want to call pop a lock at a campground. I try to never get out of my motorhome without my keys. The lock on the side door got bumped and it locked one time when it closed. Thank goodness the front door was unlocked. All of our vehicles have at least 3 keys, one at home, one in my purse and the one being used.

Be careful in all that rain. It looks like a lot more coming off the Gulf.

Congratulations and have fun exploring...and figuring how you want to use the spaces and where you want to keep all the "stuff" so that you can find it again. It is amazing that even in small rigs....some of us misplace things....you will probably never have that problem...just saying.....names are not important here.....

So glad that your traveling companions all approve!

I have a friend that has attached her keys to the car to her purse granted its not as big a purse as mine what she has it attached to is long enough she can put the purse anywhere out of the way just a thought cause you get out and you take your purse...Child safety locks was my first thought
not sure if the motor homes have it but our propane tanks are in a unlocked compartment my son gave us a lock box which is in the unlocked compartment you can set the code to what you can remember and have an extra key in there ...if you have a similar space so that way you won't get locked out
glad you got your rig so why HIM? sounds like a story there...don't know why but for some reason more use a female name to there cars, trucks or rigs one of our daughters though was enthralled with a movie she must have watched it several times a day as a young child and she name the pickup after the male in it Jimmy
enjoy your trip home and be safe

I got one of those key fobs at Walmart that has a part you can attach to the loop on your waistband. Mine are always there unless I'm driving or unlocking something. I don't keep them in my purse because I don't always take it when I'm going out of my RV.

Well, there's no denying you've made the right choices  Looking forward to pics and tales of your travels. I'm with Beth. We have a key in a metal case hidden outside the MH. When in Oregon 2 years ago, we left both our set of keys in it. Luckily I had unlocked the window in the front and was able to crawl thru it to retrieve them. The couple next to us, who we hadn't met, just watched and didn't even question what was going on. Was sure they had called the cops for a B&E  carold

All good ideas for the key! And I only got one from the dealer, so need to get another made. But like Sandi, I don't always take my purse when I'm out of the rig--like using the rest stop facilities, etc...Okay, down to just a few hours before I actually get out of here--back to the dealer with more questions, then the tow dolly, and hopefully by 2-3 pm, I'll "officially" begin my maiden voyage! :P Or will mine be a "mister" voyage??? My "him" is named after a couple of very special males that I had in my life--an ex H (yep, a good friend!) and my very special 4-legged traveling buddy who died this Jan. :( I know the "custom" is that most vehicles/ships/planes etc are "shes" and that makes sense! Females are so much more superior!!!! Too giddy with excitement. Will post from the road, I think :? THANKS AGAIN!

HIM or HER. What's in a name? My guess the faminine names came from the yacht traditions. After all our RVs are land yachts (or dinghys) exploring land the same as sailors explore the world by sea. Exploring the world by sea started a long time ago when the European languages prevailed. Boats and ships were "feminine" objects in most European languages that require an object to be either masculine or feminine. So when anglicizing words to English, the boat became "her" and the age ole tradition followed to vechicles as well.

Bottom line?? No rules. Whatever is important to you and makes YOU feel good :D

How exciting! A real happy dance time. Take a hint from RV repair shops and put a door/ignition key in a hide-a-key magnetic container inside one of the many accessible cabinets or vents that all RVs have. That could be up on a metal frame or pipe, etc. that couldn't be easily seen right away. Go over your rig inch by inch and identify all the possibilities: the fridge vent, hot water heater vent, propane tank cabinet, electric cord cabinet, etc., etc. A thief would have to take an awful lot of time searching each and every accessible place and probably give up, but it's absolutely necessary for you to have a spare someplace you can get to in a hurry.

Enjoy!
