Postby Carolinagal » Mon Aug 20, 2012 8:03 am

Good morning, Everyone !!! Everyone , must be very busy, no one has opened the kitchen here. Sorry to say, coffee and fruit are the only thing I have to offer this morning, but Welcome !!

I've had my Alaska fix for this morning, what a nice trip I had :D The Ladies know how to make a post soo interesting and fun.

Now, its on to the list of all that needs to be done today, grocery shopping one of them, trip to the dump etc, etc. Sounds like loads of fun doesn't it  :o

Oh well, next wk end is fast approaching and maybe I can enjoy a trip, where I feel like my summer amounted to something, and best of all see my family again, that always makes the heart feel better.

Have a great day everyone, don't forget to stop and smell the Roses !!!!

Stay safe in whatever your day brings along, thats most important !!

GOOD MORNING CAROL AND ALL!

Nice to see someone opened the kitchen! I hope you can get in some quality family time and travel time, Carol. How are you feeling these days> I need to read and get caught up on all that has been going on while I have been too busy to sit and do anything up here.

(Note: the following is lengthy and probably extremely boring, but I had to spew forth! Any of you can skip right over this.)

My kids and grandson left yesterday, amid a bunch of tears from me, of course. Richard is packing to leave this morning, and the site is deserted. It leaves me with a feeling of such lonliness when I look out over the fields and realize it's just me, the bear(s), wild birds, deer, rabbits, and whatever is sharing the air with me. I just hate the let-down that happens each time the Ruckus is over.

Unfortunately, the first thing I will need to do is go to the more distant dump this morning, as our own dump was closed on Saturday morning when I loaded the bags in the truck and drove there. With a bear in the area now, I really do not want any garbage in the bed of my shiny truck!

After Jack pulled out on Saturday morning, Mandy, Orion, Richard, and I went to our local rec park for a free music fest on which was an awesomely gorgeous day to be out. It was a fun time, but so sparsely attended that I am not sure if they will do this again next year, or not. There is not enough advertising for the event. Perhaps I can assist next year, or something.

Now I am facing taking down the screen room, draining the pool, (it was 39 here this morning!), getting my stuff from the leanto and getting that ready for winter, re-tarping the paddleboat after bailing it out and greasing its gears, putting the canoes and paddles away, making the shelter up here ready to back in my old trailer for the winter, (Joe and Mandy had a bunch of stuff from Joe's father stored in there during the GTG, which really made the place look dumpy in those pics I took----but he needed the space to keep stuff out of any rain), call the fuel company to get a leaky kerosene tank valve replaced, call my trailer dealer to make an appointment to get the trailer inspected on the morning I head to the Plattsburgh Bluegrass Festival at the end of September, call my friend who will travel with me this winter in FL to make plans, staple up snow fence on deck so kids can shovel it off in the winter, get old trailer ready for winter, get old 16mm movies and 8mm movies and tapes and records and all pics sorted and ready to go to get digitized, clean out kitchen cupboards and wash them and store everything in containers to keep mice from soiling things, put anything from my indoor closet that I might want or need into bins to save for next summer and put all else into bins for sale or giveaway, mow the big field and the header with the brush hog, loading Castro-convertible single beds into my truck to take to FL, organize whatever clothes I wish to take back there, as well...oh good grief, by now you are all so bored with this list I need to stop. Last, but not least, I need to make an appointment with a doctor to see if the surgery I should have can be combined with yet another procedure so I only need to go through the panic once. Or perhaps I will postpone that surgery for another year or time.

Yesterday, with Richard's help in manoevering the thing, I re-installed my dinette for the trip south with my friend, thinking it would be fun to have a table to eat on and play cards on. NOT! After emptying the trailer of all my neatly organized stuff and drawers, etc., and carrying the dinette and bench seat from the cellar and screwing it all back in place, I started crying as I realized I had lost 6 drawers of storage space in here, and simply could not deal with it. Try as I could, I simply could not find a way to still keep the necessities of living in this rig with the table and benches. So, just before dark, in a fit of depression, I began unscrewing (and stripping screws) and putting the danged thing back in the cellar. If Richard had not been here to calm me down and help me with stripped screws, I was ready to hatchet and hammer and chisel the thing out. The yard was strewn with all my stuff as I tried to eliminate stuff I didn't need. I didn't eat all day, and was so exhausted last night I went to bed as soon as I got all my stuff back in here. Dinah's crate, which she needs as she is not house-broken yet nor can she be left alone in here without munching on things, takes up most of the space made by eliminating the dinette. But the crate makes a fine table which can be moved easily to get at my drawers! Sigh!

Off I go to face the day and the tears as Richard's rig pulls out, and then to the dump.

Sorry I got carried away, but it's been so long since I have been able to sit down and write anything.
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Good Morning carol and Soos and all who follow,

Thanks for starting the kitchen this morning Carol, i too don't have much in my cupboard for breakfast either. Just finished up the last of the bacon and still have some eggs, but that's it. Grocery shopping on tap here too, but not till tomorrow as I am heading out on the highway for Mackinaw City in a little while. Today is the Les Cheneaux cruise.

Soos, I can feel your loneliness in your posts. Always hard to see friends and family leave after having such a great time. But from the long list of things you have to do to get ready for winter, I don't think that will last long. It's hard to believe that you are starting to prepare for winter and the return trip to FL already, when it seems like you just got home to the daks. Time has flown by. I too have been thinking along those lines as my time for working at the park gets shorter and my upcoming fall trip to the U.P. gets closer. As is right now, I may be done at the park a week earlier than usual due to my maxing my hours out. Since I had paid hours last October working at our Halloweenfest, those hours have to be deducted from the total I can work a season due to fiscal year starting on October 1st. So it will shorten me a week now, but that's okay. I"m ready to leave and that will give me a few days to do some things around here before I head north the end of Sept.

Judy, no I haven't gone to the Antique Boat Show. It's always on a weekend and I work weekends. One of these years. Don't seem to hear as much about it as in the past years. But Shepler's Ferry service, the one I will be taking this cruise with, also runs a boat over to the show every year as well, so maybe one of these summers I will go.

Dawn, sounds like you are having fun trying to decide what to and what not to take in your MH. Downsizing into those smaller closets is sometimes a bit of a keep or toss out game. Mix and match is more the word. Having just a few things that can be worn with each other in different ways works out just as good as having a closet full of stuff.

Red, I too sometimes will sit and watch a lightening storm when one passes by. I can see east from my house here and as the storms travel on, it's sometimes quite a show to watch the lightening going across the sky. Sometimes a bit scary too. But it's awesome watching the power of nature.

Kathleen, glad you made it home okay and are now enjoying a visit with you granddaughter. Maybe we can GTG next year.

Well, time for me to get myself out of here and hit the road north. About an hours drive at the most from here. So will mosey along and enjoy it as I love the drive. Go up there quite frequently. Might stop and grab a small bit of lunch after I get there. We do have a box lunch provided in the cruise fee, but don't know what time that will be served. My guess is after we get across the straits and into the islands them selves, later on this afternoon.

Have a wonderday all, no matter what happens.

Good Morning everyone... feels good to be home with my granddaughter... but she spends most of her time in the bedroom with various electronics... guess that is the way with this generation...
I trust each of you will make this day the best one of the week...

Sitting in the lobby of a same day surgery center waiting for the dr to tell me how well tGM's eyelid surgery went. Hopefully tGM will have great peripheral vision when healed. We just got back from a few days in Key West and if all goes well, I'm due to fly to NYC on Sunday for a few days. My sister and her husband are apt sitting for 3weeks, so I'm hoping to take advantage of free housing. Sounds like everyone is busy, while I'm just vegging. Hope all get what they need accomplished and travelers continue to have a great time. Loving revisiting Alaska and Canada. Did anyone else read about the boat that had to be rescued while watching a glacier calve in Alaska?? carold

Soos, you make me tired and I'm already tired from cleaning house this morning. My list of thing I need to do is short in comparison and I keep putting things off. I have 2 cats that need to go to the Spay and Neuter Clinic. The older they get the more they will fight. One I missed a year ago when I was bring them all and the other one just showed up a while back. The one that showed up must have been dropped on our road because he was someones pet. I still need to bring my van in.

Can't leave today because I'm waiting for someone to come see about the tread mill. We have had that thing for at least 3 years and it was hardly used. My DH decided to use it last week and it has been nothing but trouble. They make everything with so many functions these days and you can't keep them working.

Kathleen, when my grandson was here he was on some electronic game every waking hour. He didn't even want to leave the house to go to the water park or a game place. I hate to see that. His dad was never in the house, he was always doing something. Back then we had 4 dogs and he was one of the pack. We still laugh about some of the things he and the dogs would do.

Better finish what I was doing before that guy shows up.

Good afternoon. I've lost count of how many cups of coffee I've had. I guess I could count the empty K cups in the trash :D Trying to catch up on busy work...have requests to write letters of recommendations for past employees and students :D My writing skills and powers of concentrated have retired as well as me. However, I do have some great templates I have used over the years, so I hope to get them completed today. Then to post office, grocery shopping and out to the kennels for dog food.

Soos, I get tired just reading your list. Don't worry about long posts. That's what we are here for :D
Carol, it's always great to spend time with family. I miss my kids and grand kids so very much.
Sue, have a great trip to Les Cheneauz
Kathleen, so glad you're having a great time with your grandkids. When my 13 & 16 G Kids came, their mom made them leave their electronic devices at home and apparently gave them a lecture about texting, calling etc. I have a Wii and told them they could use it, but they preferred to play in the pool.
Martha, better get those kitties to the neuter place. Don't want to add to the population

I really love the great posts of the ladies in Alaska. It has been such a wonderful virtual trip and I so look forward to seeing it in person some day. Now, they are headed south and others are packing up places, finishing summer jobs and headed to other places for fall and winter. It is so hard to believe that summer is over, kids are in school and yet another year is coming to a close. I'm looking forward to better weather, but summer just disappeared.

Everyone have a great day...what's left of it. Stay safe. Aloha

Hi, all - a quick drop-in (I'm at work), just to say hi everybody.

Soos - the let-down is so hard when you've been looking forward to it for so long.

Red - What did you think of the View yourself?

Kathleen and Martha - I'm a camp registrar. One of the paragraphs in our parent guide says, "Leave cell phones at home...We promote 'Wireless Interpersonal Networking' -- a free, real-time, face-to-face, authentic conversation with another human being!" Gotta love it!

Sue - I'm eager to hear about the cruise!

Carol - Yes, I heard a teaser about the boat capsizing in Glacier Bay (no injuries, right?), but I had to turn the TV off to leave for work, so I don't know the story.

Whatever day is left for you, whatever time zone you're in, have a good one.

Ellen - re: The View. We saw the view profile 24 G with the walk around queen bed. The bed is a rear slide out. The mattress is in two pieces so it is like a sofa when it is in and a bed when the slide is open. I would really like it for solo. My DH surprisingly liked it. He likes diesel and the gas mileage. He is 6'6" and there was an inch of head room. in 2012 they got rid of the dinette, put in a sofa and made the cockpit chairs be able to turn around making a nice seating/dining area. Because of this, the sofa slide out is far enough behind the drivers seat that DH could fit with 5 inches to spare. It definitely would be tight with only one person up and moving around at a time. DH does not want to do more than long weekends or a week or two at a time and he would want to stay at RV resorts with nice showers (he does not fit in the View shower). We have an appt to test drive it this week.
