Are there any orignal A & W's burger joints anymore??

That's my question.....Ernie & I went out for supper and decided to go to the A & W here.....NOT the A & W we grew up with... there aren't any that I know of east of the Mississippi, but we thought this was one....Sure they had the root beer, but no...Papa Burger, Mama Burger, or Baby Burger....had the hot dogs, thou....(which Ernie said that they sucked...) Would love to visit a "real" A & W again....Are there any out there????

Went to one a few years ago, but it was west in Holbrook, Az. Think it's still there....In fact went by that corner on the way to Snowflake but of course don't remember if I saw it or not. Good question!

We used to have an A&W drive-in near where I grew up and I always got the little baby rootbeer. I still have a mini A&W mug. There is a drive-in near where I live now that used to be an A&W years ago but is independantly owned now, but they still serve A&W rootbeer in frosty mugs.

I had the same experience as your friend. Dad and I stopped at a A&W joint on the way home from the mountains here in SoCal. My sister had talked about eating there too someday but my visit I warned her. The rootbeer was the closest to my memory but still disappointing. Everything else tasted like school caferteria food, the day after. No flavor - no taste.

If there is probably very few around... we also had one yrs ago here... Our A &W is now in the KFC .. same root beer but not the same...

I remember my Mom treating us to root beer that they put into cartons instead of bottles for take out and it was made fresh everyday. With 6 of us it was easier for her to bring it home to us. I think that was what made it so special. My memory fails me when it comes to burgers but OH those floats were amazing. Our A&W is now a shoe store.

We went to an A & W in Le Claie, IA. I had a root beer float. I remember those floats of yesterday with the scoop of fresh ice cream. This float has soft serve ice cream from the dispenser. It was good, but nothing like I remember.

There's one near Lake Placid, NY. I was there a few weeks ago and while I didn't eat at the A&W I did sample the soft serve place across the street!
I also think there's one near St. Mary's GA - I went there but it's been 10+ years.

We had one here a few years ago but it was sold. Supposed to be the same but I never tried it to see and it didn't last very long. It is now a meat shop.

I didn't care for their food way back when but do believe they've gotten worse. Same with Jack in the box. Stopped at one about 10 years ago and about died it was so bad. Hard to believe I liked it in high school.

The few A&W's we have here have merged with Long John Silvers. I still love their rootbeer. Linda

You were right there??? Holy Cow! You were just over the shoulder of Whiteface Mt. from me! I sure do wish I had known you were there! I would have gone over the mountain to meet you at the A & W! In fact, Jack, Richard, and I were over there on thursday night at the Wilmington Beach music fest-----were you there, by any chance? Dang! Sure would have been fun to meet you!
