Healthy Road Trip Snacks
Taking a long car trip can wreak havoc on your diet. If you don't plan ahead, it's very likely you will spend a day living on fast food, candy bars, bags of chips and soda. But we have some healthy tips for your road trip!
Healthy tips for eating on the road
It would be very surprising if you consumed any fruits or vegetables, whole grains or lowfat dairy products. Of course, maybe for one day, this really wouldn't be a big problem. But, if you'd like to at least try to maintain a healthy diet while you're on the road, there are several smart choices that travel well and will keep you feeling good on your journey.

One thing to keep in mind is to keep yourself hydrated. Bottles of water are inexpensive and can be refilled easily when you stop for gas or rests. On the other side of the coin you'll probably be walking a thin line between drinking enough water and the need for extra stops! Just find what works best for you.

Pack one cooler and one bag for non-refrigerated snacks. It's also a good idea to throw in some napkins, wet wipes, plastic utensils, and a couple empty plastic shopping bags to use for trash.

Here are some healthy road foods:

•Cleaned and sliced raw vegetables; grape or cherry tomatoes
•Apples, oranges, bananas, grapes
•Snack size dried fruit (such as raisins)
•String cheese
•Yogurts in a tube
•Pretzels
•Roasted soy nuts
•Baked, flavored rice or popcorn cakes
•Sugar free Jell-O cups / fat-free pudding cups (with plastic spoons)
•Reduced fat cookies/crackers
•Fruit juice boxes; mini cans of low-sodium V8 juice
•Whole wheat bagels with light cream cheese (bring a plastic knife; slice bagels before leaving)
•Sandwiches made with lean luncheon meats and lowfat cheese or hummus and fresh spinach
There are so many great choices that your biggest challenge may be not bringing too much food! Just keep in mind, that even if you're driving all day, you probably only need the same number of snacks as you normally would eat, as long as you're going to eat regular meals, too. Pack up and enjoy!

This would be a good idea whether traveling or not...I'm living in topsy-turvy now with the downsizing...this is far better than the smart ones I'm putting in the microwave every day.

I almost always have a banana and an apple for my snacks while driving. Those are easy to eat. Then I have almonds. Most of my snacks are healthy - on or off the road. Most, not all, lol, gotta have some fun.

btw, this looks like a copy from an article? I could be wrong, but if it is, we might need it credited to the source - don't want to get in trouble with anyone.

Of course, since one would hope to be traveling in an RV, one wouldn't really need to pack all this food. It would be better to stop at a rest stop to move the joints a bit, take a potty break, and refresh from the RV. :D

Unless stopping for lunch, my breaks are to walk and walk Peaches - exactly to move the joints. Otherwise, I eat while driving, I must admit. So the easy but healthy snacks are good for me - instead of the junk it would be so much easier to toss down. But I only take a few things up for while driving - at least one piece of fruit, and usually the almonds, sometimes pretzels - not as healthy there, I admit.

Before a long trip I always make 'my' cookies. I've been told they are more a snack bar then a cookie. I take the basic oatmeal cookie recipe, minus 1/2 the sugar (M is diabetic), add coconut, chopped almonds, carob chips and dried fruit (raisins, cranberries or our own dried cherries -whatever I have on hand). With a glass of milk it's a meal! (I gave my visiting cousins a gallon bag ziploc for their trip and was told they saved some money on meals eating the cookies  )

I always pack a lot when we was on the road for a week before we would land in one place. I sure didn't want to go shopping on the road to Texas or AZ. Every body got choice how they travel or want for a snack. and stop for a rest. We alway got gas and supper out, Be-for we went back to camp ground night.
If we had to dump or get water did that too. And back on the road by 8 am. I used lots of paper when on the road. No dishes to mess with.

Lots of good suggestions here. I also like to have hard boiled eggs in my cooler. Even though you can't peel & eat while driving, they are pretty quick to eat when stopped for a break & eggs are a good source of protein.

The nice thing about eating on the road in my RV is I eat the same as though I were at home.

Because I am.

When I stop I'll dig into the fridge and make a sandwich. Eat a piece of fruit. Potty stops aren't a problem because I bring my potty with me. All I need is a turnout. My on-the-road splurge is to get a bag of trail mix, but I end up scattering much of it all over the cockpit.

Also, I don't put in long days behind the wheel. Three hundred miles is a big day for me.
