Pulling a 5th wheel, it is hard?

Like others have said, think about the kind of traveling you will be doing. I don't think I would ever full time so I don't want to be hauling a big 5th wheel around. I have a friend that has one and it is really nice to have the room when you stop. I drive a 23' motorhome and I can stop just about anywhere I want. My previous motorhome was 27' and there were places I wouldn't stop because of the extra 4'. I really miss the room I had, especially when I travel with anyone else. I feel like Beth about the Class A's. I am use to driving trucks so a Class C feels like just another truck. All that glass would take some getting use to and I would be worried about where I could stop.

Try some trips with what you have and see what you like and don't like about it. Cats don't take up much room except when they get on a tear and that only lasts 5 minutes. Mine spend most of a day sleeping or looking out the window. Or sleeping in the window.

just gotta break in here and ask....
ya'll have mentioned "wet bath" and "dry bath"
what the heck is that?
I have a bathroom with a bathtub.

now, back to the main topic, I have a 29' fifth wheel, I'll probably never LEARN to manuever it even if I
do get a truck but after the remodel I'll more than likely sell it and buy a class C. I could put a class C ANYWHERE,
as far as parking in campsite. And go figure cause back in the days when I was married and we had the boat,
I was the only one that could back the boat up straight and into the water. Husband couldn't do it and hated
to try cause he thought everyone was watching, which they were, lots of entertainment at the boat ramp.
I've been told by many of my 5th wheel friends that it is easier than a trailer. But I will probably never know.

Ava - wet bath is where the whole bathroom is the shower.

And with practice you can do it. I think it was Pooker that gave the hint about putting your hands at 6 o'clock on the steering wheel. That was the best piece of advice I've gotten. Mark is a professional truck driver and kept trying to give me all these instructions about more "driver" or "passenger" - going forward that makes sense to me but not backwards. The 6 o'clock position makes sense - need for the back end to go left, turn the wheel to the left by moving your hands to the left.

For me pulling the 5th wheel is so much easier and i feel more comfortable with it than a trailer. I dont feel any sway and its easier to hook up and not having to lift those heavy swaybars! I honestly dont know about the 35ft size tho.. Mine is 24 so another10 feet would make alot of difference , but on the other hand having the correct towing rig would make a difference too...
Your going to have to use your mirrors whether your towing a tt or a 5th wheel... also to me a 5er is alot easier to back up and park.. ( i try to get the pulls thrus tho..LOL)

Hi,

I pull a 35 foot 5th wheel. It is no problem to pull and I feel comfortable pulling it. I much prefer pulling it compared to a long travel trailer. With the the right truck to pull it, you forget it is behind you. You do have to be aware when turning corners, but you have to do that with other RVs too. As for backing, it is like any other thing, practice. Sometimes, I have no problems, sometimes, it may take a few tries. I don't let that bother me. When I retire, I will be traveling more, so I will get more practice backing. :D

I went with this size RV because I plan to stay in it a month or two or longer in it (perhaps summers with grandkids). I wanted more room and storage. I could go smaller and would feel comfortable. I know eventually down the road, I may need to downsize, but for now, I am happy with what I decided to purchase.

Carolyn,

I was really happy to hear what you had to say about your 5th wheel. I too have a Ford F250
and was thinking of 35 ft or less. Eventually I would be living in it and I think I will need the
space and storage. Also I plan on taking RV drivers training. I think it will be money well spent.

you can do it! one of the mom's from our camping group learned to drive her F350 duly with 38 foot 5er so she could keep camping with her kids after her husband unexpectedly passed away in January. if you can find someone with experience to take you out driving for a bit, that would be great. otherwise just remember to take wider turns, and if you hug the yellow line/middle of the road, the passenger side will take care of itself.
