I'd take rt #1
Scenery wise, Colorado will be lovely up past Sterling when you get ready to cross over into Nebraska. Nebraska is going to be
the flat boring state. You probably won't notice the heat while your crossing Colorado, and its all interstate and easy to get
through those mountains on I 70.

I have a friend that lives in Colorado and she says it is miserably hot there too. Plus they are surrounded by wildfires. I don't think that you will be able to avoid the heat no matter where you go right now. Unless you come to Oregon. It's pretty pleasant right now. :)

We are going through day # 16 of triple digit temps, with no end in sight. We have been on a burn ban and are under severe drought conditions. I would rule #3 out, especially if you have the time to travel a little. Everything here is brown and crunchy. I'd vote for #1 also. Definitely do Sedona. Linda

Echo, I had the car completely checked over last week. They changed the oil, checked and topped off the fluids, checked the radiator, belts, hoses, tires, brakes, etc. She is all good to go! I also have anti-freeze and oil in the back seat just in case. The timing and serpentine belts were both replaced in the past year.

I think I will go the more northern route thru Colorado. Then I can stop and see my friend there and get another "ferret fix" halfway home :D . She has 4 ferrets. I met her many years ago on a Ferret Forum and became good friends when I moved to Denver 12 years ago.

Hopefully, I will be able to do the Route 66 thing in the next few years before it is completely gone :(

Barbie, let me know when you'll be rolling through Denver and I'll try to get back up there if you have time to meet.

Wow. I can't believe that post went through. I've been replying to posts for the past two weeks and lose my connection every time. Yay!

I'm near Castle Rock, just a bit south of Denver.

Still hemming and hawing the route to take (between #1 and #2). I checked the 10 day forecast for both ways and it will be in the mid to upper 90's across both routes (with the exception of driving across the Rockies for one day). I am a little worried about driving across Utah. It will be hot and there are very few towns across there in case something should go wrong with the car. I would be driving from St George to Grand Junction for one day and there isn't much in between them. If I go the second route to Albuquerque, it will take two more days just because I would spend a little extra time to see Sedona and an extra day in Denver to visit my friend near Vail.

Amy, either route I take, I will be staying overnight in Denver (maybe two) so we could work out something to meet up! Will let you know what I end up doing and we can go from there.
