Ellen, so glad your friend, Kari, is going with you. Tell her to jump right in. The waters are great here. These ladies are fantastic!

I know you will have a great time at the GTG. Maybe next year I can make one there. We definitely want to head to the Seattle area in the future.

Ellen, that is great you have a friend coming with you. The more the merrier so please tell her she is more than welcome, and to jump right in and join this forum. I do lots of lurking myself. Heck we aren't so bad hee hee (well, cant speak for everyone ha ha). It will definitely ease your mind having that extra set of eyes, especially when backing in to your spot. I love it when I travel with someone it saves me jumping "in and out" many many times instead of just a few. I have backup and side cameras but I still have to get out and see the lay of the land for myself. Tell her not to forget to look UP also. No explanation needed I am sure HAH

Hi. I just joined the forum and discovered the GTG in Grants Pass. I'm going to get to work and see if I can get there. I am still a nervous driver of my 5er. Does any know if coming from Baker City thru John Day, Bend etc is an OK route to drive? I know there are a lot of twisty roads between John Day and Prineville. Has anyone driven it in your rig? Is there a better route? I know the freeway is a whole lot further around.

Lynn, sorry - I missed this post when I approved your intro - just got this one approved. I know the OR ladies will reply to you rather quickly and sure would LOVE to see you at the GTG. As for me - I always try to take the 2 lane roads - have never gotten in trouble yet. But I know there are a few that are a little harder to handle. So hopefully the ladies in the know will jump in quickly with that info.

Beth, thanks for posting this....

Lynn,
According to Mapquest, the freeway route is one hour and about 130 miles longer than going thru JD, Prineville, Bend, etc. However, on the freeway, you have ONE mountain pass (Meacham) with truck lanes BUT you also have to drive thru the gorge with the wind and of course you'd have to drive thru Portland. I've driven 26 and there are multiple little passes that you have to go over but there are also passing lanes. I haven't driven the 97/230/62 route past Crater Lake so someone else will need to chime in on that one.

So, If it were me, I'd take the inland route thru JD, Prineville, Bend, etc, Don't get stressed out about the drivers behind you, pull over when you can SAFELY to let them pass if there aren't any passing lanes, and then mosey on your way. It sounds like you have plenty of truck to pull the 5er so the passes shouldn't be an issue. Just remember to shift down when going up hill and use the same gear going down the other side so you don't burn up your brakes.

This is just ONE opinion so hopefully someone else will put their two cents in as well.

I went route 62 then 230 then 97 on my way to Canada. I didn't think it was a bad drive. There isn't alot of traffic when I went in September so I am thinking there wouldnt be that much after Labor Day. The road was good, has the requisite slow down curves but I would go that way again. Lots of open driving with passing lanes. As Laura says just pull over when you can safely, otherwise they just have to wait!!! I would much rather drive that route than going up to catch the freeway....can be really windy in the gorge. I would rather drive a bit slower than fight the wind.

Ok, here goes hopefully I am posting in right spot. Let me know it not I'm still getting a little lost here.
I DID IT! Reserved site F45 for 28,29,30 for sure. Maybe 27 and 1st but that is up in the air yet. I am sooo excited.
My daughter is going to come with me so that makes the trip doubly special. I am thinking that I will need to bring the dogs is there any problem with this?
Looking forward to the GTG, sounds like a lot of fun.

Yay, yay, yay!! How wonderful your daughter's coming too!

I've read of others bringing their furry friends, so I don't think the dogs are a problem. Sometimes they have to stay on a leash any time outside the RV. It'll be nice to hear that from one of the more experienced members. I'm planning to bring Tucker.

Wonder if it might be prudent to reserve the "maybe" nights as well and then cancel them if it doesn't work out. Check the cancelation policy?

YIPPEE Good for you. Glad you will have an extra set of eyes and ears, it always helps especially at first. Looking forward to meeting you both and your furbabies too.

Dogs are always welcome at State Parks, just need to be leashed at all times and no excessive barking is their policy. Each loop has a host and they keep a pretty good eye on things so most people stick to the rules. (ya know there is always someone who thinks their dog is "special" and doesn't need to be on a leash...sheesh)

I don't think it will be a problem extending days on either end as I have looked at the park map and there are lots of spots so I am sure people would rather be away from other campers or in another loop. Some of the loops have full hookups but F loop doesnt. It is also the most spacious so that's why we chose this loop. We also have a whole field of green and trees behind us to set up "camp". The showers are close tho and that will be the most important. They have a great dump station there, easy in and easy out.

This is getting more and more exciting.

Karen;

Thanks for info on dogs. Our dogs ARE special which is why they are always on leashes. Gets me my exercise.
The reservations lady said she thought there would be lots of spaces available. If I add days ahead of time there is another $8 nonrefundable fee so I think I'll wing it.

Question: The site is a 50 amp electrical I was told. My rig is 30 amp can I still hook up , do I need something special to connect to the site electrical?
