GOOD MORNING CAROL AND ALL!

I was waiting for some news from you about what your doc said yesterday, Carol, but just read about Kathleen and her pneumonia from you. What about you, eh?? I am guessing Maggie fared ok in the storms yesterday while you were out and about? So what does your doc advise?

Now then, Kath, I am hoping your lungs are better this morning and that you were able to sleep somewhat last night. Why did you not get the cough syrup? Do you have health insurance, I hope? Many people must need cough syrup and it should be covered in your prescription plan? Anything that will allow your body to rest a bit is a must. And, if it has an expectorant, it will help to clear your lungs, as well. Stay in touch with us as often as you can. Sending srength and hugs your way.

Our temperature hit 38 degrees here last night, but it's rising fast now and stands at 57 deg. F.

I have been watching and listening to the news about that hideous shooting in CO last night at the movie theater. (I knew there was some reason I do not like movies or theaters.)

What sicko minds we seem to be fostering in our great country these days. Something is drastically awry with our way of life. I suspect it's the fact that mothering and nurturing and fathering and nurturing have been forced out of the family home and into the arms of day-care so both parents can work in order to survive. Day care is simply NOT family love and teaching, and is a pitifullly poor substitute for family nurturing, is my feeling. And then we insist on teaching our kids to pass tests in our schools instead of actively teaching morals, empathy, sympathy, and kindness along with academics, as we once did in the early days of our country. The Golden Rule went a long way back then, and a parent's lap was a haven for learning how to love. We have come so far from being good parents now, as many of our own parents were also forced to farm us out in order to make enough cash to support the family, and so we lost the loving, nurturing, caring skills we use to learn from our stay-at-home care givers. It is agony to drop off kids (even infants) to others in day care to 'raise', then leave them to work 8 or more hours per day, pick up kids and drive home to try to reconnect when all concerned are stressed from what went on during the day, eat, go to bed, and repeat the following day at least 5 days a week. It is not working. It simply is NOT working. How can we remedy this? My thought is that a stay-at-home parent should be paid a wage equivalent to a working parent, and should be taught basic nurturing skills that foster love and kindness and provide the basic foundations for happy, healthy, loving citizens. Most of all, a stay-at-home parent should be revered for his/her job, and not put down for 'shirking' the work force. Being a good parent should be the most highly honored job in our lives.

Sigh----my coffee rant is over. Please think about things, and tell me what you come up with for a remedy for our uncaring, unfeeling society members of today. Something needs fixing fast.
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Good morning everyone. Rainy, rainy, rainy. Was suposed to come in this afternoon according to weatherman last night. The weekend looks iffy so far. Kathleen, take care of yourself and get the cough syrup, anything that would help is worth the money. Call me when you can, my friend. Soos, its hard to say what caused people to just snap like that. Its a sad fact that most families can't live on just one paycheck. And there are, around here especially, so many single parents. I think it's just the stress of our world today. Some triggering thing just snaps inside these people. I was thinking the other day how nice it was to grow up in the times we did. Things were just happier, calmer! Well, we'll never know in most cases. Its not just movies (one of my favorite places!), you could be anywhere. Carol, have you seen your bear again? Like my friend who went deer hinting, never even saw one. Came home and one walked across yard! This has become kind of long. Everyone try to have a fun day! Wendy

good morning ladies
feels like a weird day for some reason, feeling a little anxiety over the movie theater shooting, one of friends from the school district
I worked in back in Colorado, her son was there and his friend got shot. He helped him out and they sat in the car waiting for rescue.
It was moms car (my friend) and now she has no car until the police release it. Since it got blood in it, its part of the crime scene. Am
so glad her son is fine though. It always was scarry driving a schoolbus in that area, that city was full of gang members then and imagine
it still is.
Looks slightly overcast today but guess as the sun climbs higher in the sky it will burn off. One thing on the agenda today, run to the
bank and make a deposit as my account is 45 cents in the negative and I'll be damned if I'm gonna let them charge me $30 for that, and
they will if I don't get at least 46 cents in there. But, the automatic payment got made.
Off to read up on posts and email and enjoy a second cup of coffee. Ya'll have a great day.

Hope you feel better soon Kathleen, be sure and get the cough syrup if it has codeine in it, you will be so glad you did. Carol I hope you get well soon and you do well on the stress test.

I hadn't heard about a shooting in Colorado, I try not to listen to the news much, too depressing and really nothing we can do but get upset it seems. I do think much of the cause of all the problems in families is children aren't disciplined at home or taught basic manners. The schools also aren't allowed to discipline so the teachers mostly are there to try and prevent bedlam and injuries! Here in the public schools the new policy is that they can only use positive behavior to maintain discipline, can't you just imagine how that's so not going to work! Plus most children are fed such poor diets at home and at school that many have trouble focusing. I have a friend who works in a school for Kindergarten - second grade. Kids who are 'low' due to immaturity or inability to learn are sent out of the classrooms for portions or all of the school day. She sits at a table with five children, one is very badly behaved and starts fights so he is on one side of her, on her other side is an autistic child who is a runner, so she has to make sure he doesn't take off and the other three who possibly could be helped get very little attention as she struggles to keep everyone seated! Other stories of the kids throwing desks over, biting and kicking the teachers is just hard to believe. How can all this happen in a school with K-second graders!!! Oh, and they closed the school where the super badly behaved kids or dangerous ones could be sent so they are now back in the classrooms. If they expel a child, the parents just drop the child off and then won't answer their phones so the school has to keep them. Now I understand why so many kids can't read!!

It is under 80 degrees this morning and only supposed to reach mid-nineties! A real cool down :D

TGIF everyone. Actually Friday is just another day when you are retired and I hide out on the weekends and do my errands on weekdays to avoid the crowds and traffic. I was helping husband clean out one of our out buildings. I have an old 4 poster mahogany bed frame and matching side tables stored in their. It belonged to Grandma and it was one of the things I would not leave behind in Hawaii. He mentioned that he would like it to go bye, bye since my younger daughter did not want it. Then I said that daughter #2 DID want it and the other precious things from her great-grandma. So he said to "pack it up and ship it out. He was tired of being the repository for my family junk." So I am acting before he changes his mind and polishing and packing the silver pieces and the crystal and china. Then will call a moving company to send it up to WA.

Soos....I agree with you so very much about your "coffee rant". And I want to add one of my worries to that rant. So many kids are growing up without the love and affection most of us experienced. And with that comes embracing morals and ethics: responsibilities and consequences to their actions. There have been so many shootings lately..specially here in Houston. Just yesterday a man randomly drove down a nearby upscale suburban neighborhood shooting into the windows of houses. I've always been around guns for hunting and competition skeet. I believe in the 2nd amendment and the right to own a gun. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. But there sure are a lot of stupid people out there with guns waving them around and shooting without taking into consideration the responsibilities and consequences that go with the gun.

Enough of my coffee rant for today. Have a great weekend. Aloha

GOOD MORNING SISTAHS!!!

A little cooler here at the moment. It rained hard last night. Started just a few minutes before I left to go get Kelly. And I mean it poured hard too. Had the wipers on high speed and it was still hard to see to drive. I have an older truck which means that my wipers actually do work at a high speed too. The slight ruts in the blacktop were full of water and it tugged at the steering making for an interesting drive to WallyWorld.

I have to weigh in on the parenting issue. For me, I don't believe that the key is in having a full time parent at home all the time is that much of an issue. It's not the quantity of time or parenting it's the lack of quality that causes much decay. Both of my parents worked while I was growing up, sometimes Mom worked 2 jobs. But I never, ever felt at a loss. When one or the other was home or even both they gave us kids the attention, discipline and 'love' that we all needed. A large number of parents today don't do that. They don't discipline, they don't spend time teaching their kids, they don't teach responsibility, they give them way to much stuff and money to get them out of their hair. They expect kids to grow up into model citizens all by themselves. Expect schools to do things that schools to do way, way more than a school should have to do. But when a school does attempted to discipline a kid the parents raise a sheet fit. They don't care how the kids acts or causes problems on a bus but just let a school deny busing because of behavior and fights and the parents want to sue. It's easier to fight the school to try and force them into caving than it is to be a parent. No one wants to take responsibility of being the right kind of parent. And schools shouldn't have to parent any kid. End of soapbox! (well there is more, but!)

Talked to son last eve and after talking to him I think I am gonna drain the radiator myself and refill it. Put the orange antifreeze back in. Told son that I am gonna do that for now and when I get back from TX that I will get up there and he can then do a drain and flush so that he can put in the green stuff. I simply don't want to waste the time, effort and money to go back up to where he is on Tuesday. I want to get an early start on Tuesday. Got to remember to clean out the truck this week too! Way to much junk inside the truck. But will keep a pillow and blanket in there!

Have to be on the clock at 1pm and work to close today and the rest of the week. YUCK!

Kathleen, for goodness sake take good care of yourself! Do everything that your suppose to to kick the bug. Carol you behave yourself too and take care.

OK, gonna go read a little. Hope ya'll have a good day and remember to do it safely too!

Love to all

My last day at work! Yay!!

Haven't heard about the shooting either. I agree with the parenting thing but also feel that the constant violence on TV, movies, videos, etc, has desensitized kids/people to that kind of thing in the real world.

Gotta get ready for work now. Have a great day, stay/get well, keep cool/dry, etc!!

I so wanted to quote every post..much said and all right on..
Ava, I can imagine your anxiety..I wondered how close to the forum this shooting came..
I overdid yesterday so today I'm kicking back a little. I intended to get to WM by 5 this morning to get all the banana boxes I wanted. I'll try again tomorrow..not a good hour for me but I can do it. I will sort according to family, selling, storage and trash and there will be much trash, my little trailer is beginning to build up. Tony tore down a wood fence like screen on the east side of house to hide propane tank. I'm doubting the wood was treated because it all buckled so not pretty anymore. Being male, he gets all lit up when I mention something that involves the tractor. He suggested I add anything that will burn to my burn pile..(I'm rural, so please don't fuss at me for this :D). We will have to get rain before any burning takes place.
My handyman didn't show yesterday but he said he was working on several jobs..it's okay because he can take his time and he'll still be done before this house is ready to show.

I agree with so much of the opinions posted about the kids of today....but can't even think of an answer to solve this craziness...(sp?) But one thing came to mind when I read Soos post.....Paying a parent to stay home & take care of their kids....well where is that money going to come from? Isn't that like 'Welfare'...? Which is already available....Our government that is already thrillions in debt ? Where ? I grew up in a home with 2 parents who were really strict...my Dad worked as a Tool & Die Maker & my Mom was pretty much blind (from cataracts) most of my youth. (Back then there was no money or job/health benefits that covered medical care so my Mom had to wait till they had saved enough for some kind of medical attention...but that's another story) That meant I had to do the things my Mom couldn't do....Back then you were respectful, obedient and expected to do your best in school, never talk back & never, ever be impolite to adults...and spending time with family was a priority to be enjoyed and treasured. There was no such thing as buying on credit....if you couldn't pay for it in cash, you didn't get it. Nowadays kids have parents that provide them with so much of everything that they don't value anything...and if they don't have parents that do that, well, then they can always steal it from some unsuspecting victim....and Gangs & drugs were not headline news every day and I grew up in the Chicago area .... Wish the magic answer to solve all this would show up cause this generation of young people surely needs a better future than the one they now have.....and that's my 2 cents......

Guess i can join the "rainy'days with some of you... we had thunder and lighting last nite and it poured down rain. I am so thankful my dog isnt a mess.. she just barks and thinks it will go away..LOL I tell her its 'ok' so she will settleback down.
We dont get lot of this kind of weather here so its sortta exciting to watch.

No plans for going out camping in Aug unless there is a vacant spot at the beach... its FULL, and i dont want to get ready to go if its only for 1 or 2 nites.
My son is here for a short stay, so been busy. Not use to having company.. so its hectic for me.. At least he is working part time, so that gets him outta the house for the day.

Did get the trailer washed and part of it waxed the other day when it was cooler... along with cleaning the PU and the car... No exciting news here..

Everyone have a great weekend!

Agree with Excel - if a parent was paid to stay home raising kids where would the $$$ come from??? There's already way too much over taxation and spending in my opinion and way too many "entitlement" programs. Yes, there are some that need but many that expect. Will say that there's not a lot of respect from a lot of young people today. I was a divorced single mother from the time my daughter was 3, always worked, paid for day care if needed and never had a cent given to me. And, yes, my daughter is a college graduate, intelligent, hard working mother/wife and a good citizen herself.

Agree with Excel and Echo - First - paying parents to stay home is what welfare has been doing for years - and those don't seem to be the best behaved children, now do they? Also I agree that daycare and two parents working are not bad things - as kids need socialization - and parents need to work. I'll take it a step further and blame the parents. They won't allow the schools to discipline, and then they won't discipline themselves - and therein lies most of the problems. Believe me, kids need structure and to know what they can and can't do - not parents who say - oh, we don't want to take away their creativity, etc. BS. They don't want to "parent" which requires more than nurturing. Nurturing without discipline is not working. Plain and simple. Now, where did I see the best behaved children - in Amish and Mennonite homes. And don't tell me those mom's don't work. They work darn hard, and so do the children. And some of them work outside the home, also. Their days have structure and the kids know what is and isn't allowed.

That said - not sure how that means movies and movie theaters are bad places. I mean, these things take place everywhere, all the time. And always have. The wild west wasn't a place free from guns and shootings. Nor were towns 100 years ago. The population was less - which made a big difference. So, let's say we should have mandatory birth control ... hahaha .... we know how that would go over.

I had no intention of replying to this post - but then decided - what the hell. lol

And off to work I go to see if I can force some parents to take control of their kids on the boat. Truthfully - with the way parents allow their children to behave, I'd rather the kids be banned from the boat. Not the kids fault - but I shouldn't have to constantly tell parents to watch their kids. I can't imagine a teacher today - who doesn't have the parents there and has their hands tied behind their backs while the kids misbehave.

I did question the 'paying parents to work'.. I had a website (which I foolishly sold for almost nothing while going through a divorce). It was for Artisans and Craftsman and I had links to hundreds of people who work from their home. I put much emphasis on this in regard to being home with children and even involving the children which I have witnessed time and time again through craft shows and also the website. If one lets their creative juices flow first in finding the thing they want to do like woodworking, pottery, ceramics, fabric, etc they will find a way to earn their part of the income. I know there are so many single parent households and might not have the luxury of time in getting their crafts out there to be recognized and sold. Daycare is expensive but I think the idea of a day during the week for socializing with other children is important. The budget can be tightened in most young families. They put TV's in every room, buy the children the latest in namebrand clothes, at 16 put them in a car and finance the payments, plus pay the maintenance and insurance. Families are so influenced my what they see on TV and it is most certainly taking it's toll on them.
Thanks for tuning in on my 2 cent's worth,.
