That is awesome news Janice!!! Congrats on the sale of the house!! WOOHOO!!!! And like Ava says, you will still have the place in St George to land at if desired.

Soos, it's rough to let go of stuff, I know. But it does need to be done. I swore that after doing Mom's stuff and some of Dad's that I would never leave it to my kids to do. If, God forbid, something were to happen to you, your kids would be left to go thru it all and that is a horrible painful thing to do for the kid.... You go girl and get it parred down!

Congratulations Janice, I do hope they don't tear it down after all your work. I have wondered the same thing, what if the buyer comes in and renovates..there goes my several $1000 paint job. I'm glad you posted your pics. This gave me the final nudge to go ahead with a nice paint job and I understand about staging now. I hardly ever watch those shows on HGTV or I would have known. I can already see I might have your emotions about selling because it is coming back alive with what I am doing and will be so clean. Yesterday Mr Handyman took down the doggy door which was in the sliding door. DIRT-EEE! I scrubbed for 30 minutes and I'm not through. I also rubbed the paint off the quarter round but that will be no problem to redo. My painter said he would come back and do touch ups from moving furn out.

Ana, I don't know if you are simply clearing out the clutter or planning to sell. You might talk to a realtor about whether you should renovate if you are planning to sell it. Usually those things do not pay for themselves.

And I chuckled about your remark about "tearing it down" ... lots of perfectly good houses in my neighborhood were victims of what we call "scrapes." They are demolished to build bigger ones. The buyer hasn't said she wants to do that, but might not have to avoid spoiling the sale. Did I say she lives across the street? Her parents -- now deceased -- did exactly that about five years ago ... built a mini-mansion about four doors down. She may be planning that here (I have one on each side). But it's none of my business once the deal closes.

Too many bad words in there, I see. But setting this house free to let someone else build memories here is the right thing to do. This has been my home for more than 15 years and it's hard to let go, but because of the "ghosts" here it's hard to stay.

I'm going to take off in my MH and travel. But I'm afraid of being lonely and isolated. When couples travel they are home because they are together. I am feeling a bit set adrift.

We'll see how I feel tomorrow.

One of the things I realized as I was going through the clearing out stage, is that many of the things that are important to me will never be important to my kids. For example, things my aunts or cousins gave me or that bring memories of those people. I had a ton of aunts and uncles and cousins, and my kids never knew a lot of them, so they never had those memories.

I gave some things to kids of those relatives and some other things, I just tossed. No one will care about them after i am gone, so no sense keeping them.

Judy, as I continue to clear out, I still have quite a few things in the garage that I would never miss if the whole #@!$ thing burned down. LOL. I'm going to do some more sorting / donating to pare down the pile. Geez.

I probably will rent a small u-haul truck for the last load to St. George. As I went through u-haul's on-line reservation system, I was delighted when they provided me with the names of businesses that will help me load here and unload the truck in St. George. What a relief! I could con my son & his friends into loading the truck. No problem. My dilemma was at the other end.

What's cool is that I'll be able to tow my car using my blue ox system. Then, after I drop the truck off, I can drive back to SLC.

Pant! Pant! Pant!

Really??? I see it a whole different way. "Free, unencumbered, happy go lucky, meditative, tumbleweed like, daring, explorer, happy, curious, I could go on. Your only lonely and isolated if you allow yourself to be.

This is exactly the way I feel. I have cleaned a house, mowed and tried to keep shrubbery alive (which traps me in the summer), fixed broken whatever to keep it functional, etc Time to free myself from encumbrances. If something happened that I couldn't travel the country alone I would still be happy with this decision. Arkansas is a beautiful state, much of it is rural and full of natural beauty (hence 'The Natural State') and my son could carry me to these places for periods of time. I thought it all out and I'm working my booty off to get that state.
