Those "donated" pix were amazing! What a wonderful day you and Peaches had. And it occurred to me that you probably are doing far more sightseeing with your toad than you ever would have just in your rig.

I heard about the mom and 4 cubs over a week ago. Now, we all have to hope that people will learn to respect her and the cubs and keep better distances or the city might just close the road. And it is a very popular place to go. I would hate to see that happen. That's why my pics with my phone were fuzzy - I kept my distance and it doesn't zoom like my good camera does. But some, well they wanted to be "right there".

Hopefully lots more will continue to be able to see them. It's a wonderful sight to behold.

As to 4 cubs. When I was at Denali 3 years ago I learned that grizzlies have an average of 3 cubs per birth. That means 4 isn't terribly unusual, but we see only 2 or 3 usually because often one doesn't make it (often the males are to blame for that - wanting to mate again, they kill the cubs if they get a chance so that the mom will decide to mate.) And the average being 3, means that they can have just 1 or 2 sometimes, also. Now what I don't know is if any have ever had more than 4... something to Google one day, maybe.

I don't know what the average is for black bears.
