KansasSue Planning to go Full-Timing

Hello Ladies,

I have been reading several of the members blogs and I am so anxious to join the Full-Timers experiencing this great world of ours.
I have a small Hi-Lo and am gradually learning the basics of RV-ing. I find myself limited by the demands of full-time employment but have been increasing my time camping and the my knowledge. I haven't decided which type of RV I will upgrade to for full-timing so I read all I can find on the blogs regarding this issue. I value all your opinions ladies!
I am planning on working for three more years. Due to a tornado hitting my house and having the choice of rebuilding or selling what was left and banking the insurance money, I am taking the first stop and am downsizing into an apartment. I plan to downsize my apartment again next year then move into my RV full-time the last few months of my employment.

In the meantime I would love to read more of your stories and communicate with any ladies heading into my area. I live in Wichita KS but have done most of my camping in Nebraska or northern KS along US 81, again- time constraints. My husband, who was not a camper, died last year so when I camp it is usually with my sister, Linda, and often her grandchildren, my grandchildren, my youngest brother Mike, his family and various friends and family that join us.

Linda's newest interest is Dutch Oven Cooking and she is an avid quilter. Mike's hobby is Geo-caching. And I prefer to spend my time hanging out with the computer or traveling. With such varied interests we always find something to do or somewhere to go and there is usually a nice campground near by. I would like to add boon-docking to our camping but find that has not been an option with the grandchildren along, the smaller campers have too small of tanks and the larger campers have too many people. As time goes on I would like to find workable solutions to the issues of camping with a large number of people (often 3 for me and 4-8 for Linda, 3-4 for Mike) that would allow boon-docking. There is so much to learn and I find I do not have the required patience. I want to be camping NOW!

Welcome, Sue! Boondocking can be a challenge with so many but there are those who do it. I would guess that's when you need to be places that at least have bathrooms so you don't use your own. And they get to skip baths, showers, etc. I don't know any kids who won't do that for a day or two. But I can see how it would be challenging for you. The bigger rigs can have way bigger holding tanks, but you would still need to be careful.

Welcome, Sue, from the left coast. I have family in your general area, but I'm sorry to say I haven't been that way for 4 or 5 years, and the closest I'll get to it this year is Tulsa. To many other places to go and people to see! LOL! I don't have a problem with boondocking, but my coach is set up for it with solar and genny, and there's just me. Chewy the chi and the Samcat could care less about a bath. In fact, Chewy thinks baths are highly over rated.

Welcome - I have small tanks in my trailer so I haven't attempted boondocking yet. But I think we would be good for a weekend, or even longer if there is a dumpstation in the area as I do have a blue tote. And I use mostly bottled water for drinking. I just got a new generator but need to upgrade the battery.

And Mark and I have gotten into Dutch oven cooking as well.

Welcome Sue, it does sound like you are anxiously awaiting retirement so you can join the full timers in the forum. You will find so much help in getting prepared. I am in AR, so I am one of your moderately close neighbors. Keep up with the GTG's and maybe one will fit your schedule and you can start getting to know the girls.

Thank you everyone that said HI! I get so involved reading blogs I forget to check the forum. I was pleased at all the greetings!
I plan to become more active with this forum but please bear with me, I tend to get sidetracked reading all the great blogs everyone is doing this year. I love Beth, Mitch, Nan and Birdie all blogging Alaska. And RV Sue is in my favorite place- Custer SD.

I do so want to be out there looking at the far horizon and dreaming too. In the meantime, I have goals: 1) break the addiction to network tv and video games, 2) switch from Dr Pepper to Green Tea as drink of choice, 3) work on improving my Dutch Oven Skills and develop a collection of recipes that can be modified to work as cook once, eat for multiple days without becoming tedious.

Welcome, Sue...Glad you found us....Full-timing is a wonderful lifestyle, but it does take planning...especially, if you want to do some Boondocking...so take your time and continue your research....you'll find what suits you....and as has been said, ask away with questions....we'll all be glad to help.
