End of June

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

End of June

Postby Birdie » Sat Jun 30, 2012 1:40 am

Well good morning sleepy heads! We have made it through 6 months of this fine year. Surely do hope it continues to be this fine for the rest of the year.

It is 10:15 p.m. here in the far north land and that makes it 1:15 back in Texas. But, it is of course still light here. Since we will probably only stay one night, I decided to not put the block out film on the front but I have closed all the shades and turned on a light.

I have been sitting here working on the numbers for the trip so far. I left the GTG in Texas on April 16th and since that day I have driven Suite Pea a total of 4825 miles. I am still working on the amount of gasoline she has consumed. The best mileage that I have gotten is 8.8 mpg and the worst was 5.5. The highest price that I paid for gas in Canada was $5.916 per gallon and the most I have paid in the US was $4.399 but that will change shortly. I did pay $4.699 to fill up Herbie on Thursday. The cheapest gas in the US was at Safeway in Fairbanks and I used a 20 cent a gallon discount to fill up at $3.869 a gallon. The cheapest in Canada was $4.251.

We are preparing to make another overnight prior to going into Denali Nat'l. Park. So coffee in the morning will be a short cup as we will be driving. Really don't need to drive 10 miles and stop and drive 10 miles and stop! . Will have to decide if I am having oatmeal again this morning or if I will do cheerios.

Hope you have a great time today. It is not a "work" day, normally, though some must do it today. If you are on the road, please drive safely and watch out for the other guy. If you are at home or stopped have a good time today! Tomorrow will start the last 6 months of the year.

CArol you will appreciate this - there is a train passing on a track about 2 blocks north of here - but there aren't any blocks you understand. Amazing how the RV parks are placed near train tracks!

Keep dreaming sistahs!

Good Morning Birdie and all who follow,

Sounds like a good spot that you are staying. Having been to AK, I can visualize it very well. Have fun driving today and hopefully it won't be an every 10 mile stop

It is a nice cool morning here this morning. Temp is predicted to go to about 81 or so today with a nice brisk WNW wind. That will make for a beautiful day. Looking at the weather map today I see those of you in the mid section are in for another scorcher. The high that is causing that has pushed the jet stream north and it is coming down right over us, therefore keeping us in the nice pleasant weather. Sorry ladies. Wish I could send it your way.

Full house at the park right now and will be busy with day users as well today. Being it's not going to be so hot, it will be perfect beach and water day. And with the fireworks tonight, people will be staking out their spots by afternoon. I will be gone before the crunch starts moving in later this afternoon :) Our lead Ranger is already laying out strategy with our staff on the handling of parking and traffic issues that will insue as it gets closer to the evening and after the fireworks are over. Then tomorrow morning, we will attempt to find our beach, clean the walks of all the sand, empty a ton of trash and so forth. It will be all over for another year.

Well, must move along here. As Birdie said, for some this is a work day and indeed it is for me. Wishing the AK travelers a safe trip to Denali and those in the heat wave states, please keep cool and be careful in the excessive heat. Wishing a wonderful day to all of you.

GOOD MORNING BIRDIE, SUE, AND ALL!

I would love to be entering Denali with you, Birdie! Hope to see some pics rom there eventually. And how nice to have it light nearly 'round the clock! I love daylight.

Sue will have a busy day at her full park----make a lot of people happy, I am sure!

Hazlenut coffee here, and I am preparing to have my day with Orion as his parents are entering a golf tournament today in Saranac Lake---YIPPEE!

The news says it's to be dangerously hot today in much of the nation, but I am sitting here with jeans/jammies and a sweatshirt, at this hour, anyway. It should stay cool inside the house, and I will run a fan in here if it gets oppressive. Hopefully I can pick a few blueberries today which are ripening before my eyes since the rains! I will bring Orion in his stroller to watch me pick and get lessons for for the future!

Time to get moving----have a happy Sunday, and stay cool wherever you may be. I really wish I had a pool this year---danged mice chewed holes in mine last winter out in the shelter where I stored it, wrongly!

Birdie, I know what you mean about the train tracks/rv parks. Outside of Boston last year it was good since we took the train into Boston and to Salem. but trying to sleep at a 4H campground in Evansville, IN one night when it sounded like the train was driving through us was another story.

I'm a little jealous of your nice cool weather. We hit 104 yesterday. Campground is only half full, some reservations cancelled and I blame the lower attendance on the heat. In fact, I also blame the power outage for 2 hours last night on the weather. Everyone is running their air and fans and whatever else they can do to keep cool.

Oatmeal and hot tea this morning. Oh, and the daily banana. Been drinking more water and keeping the potasium intake up during all the heat. Take care girls, drive safe if you're on the road. Today is a workday so I'm off to check the restrooms.

I love it that 81 is "so hot"!!!  One week from today, I will be heading north on an airplane so that I can enjoy some of that hot weather! Today, I get to hopefully suffer through rain showers - but no storms like what hit the east coast last night.

I can't wait for the pictures from Denali. That is definitely one place on my bucket list and I'm still plotting ways to make it sooner rather than later.

good morning ladies
woke up with my shoulder hurtin, can't hardly move it. Don't know if its something I did, (maybe trying to cut that screw the other day)
or maybe slept on it wrong. Whatever, guess I'm getting old. Rubbed some analgesic cream into it and will see what pills I want to take.
Maybe take my tramadol. Have too many things to do to be laid up. Thinking I just might have to put in my own thermostat cause my
sons worker is out there sleeping on a cot in the laundry/work room. Son is working already at one of the complexes. Seems to me
when they had it apart before (when they were suppose to swap out the thermostat, and forgot) that thermostat housing was on
the bottom but I'll just have to go look at it. Need to go get some coolant/antifreeze, the kind that is NOT 50/50. I want the real
thing.
Ok, time to finish up my coffee and get dressed. Ya'll have a great day and be safe.

ps. I did read Soos post again, too funny, happy sunday?? lol

Good Morning... it is pleasant this morning and will be hotter this afternoon... as for now the birds are singing and the breeze is blowing...
My daughter in law was in the north country looking for property she and her girlfriend Sue found a place in Pres ue Isle... time will tell... I wonder how much time people actually spend in a second house that is maybe 4 to 5 hours away... I like my house on wheels!
Not much happening that I know of here today... a peaceful day...
Take care everyone...

Sounds like I am in the perfect spot, temp-wise. It is sunny and 66 right now with 80 for a high today! I hate heat and humidity, so am glad to be here!

They have extended the $5.99 haircut sale for ANOTHER week!! Yikes! It has been crazy busy and since we are still shorthanded, I have been working 9 and 10 hour days. Am getting really burned out, but the tips are pretty good so that helps. Another 9+ hour day today...

I was supposed to check out a studio apartment last night, but the lady cancelled on me, so will maybe see it on Tuesday, my day off. There are a couple others I am checking on and with the 1st being tomorrow, there will be more new listings on Craigs List tomorrow and Monday.

I need to remember to say "RABBITS" tomorrow morning since I need all the luck I can get this next month!!

Have a good, cool, safe day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

thermostats done and I didn't have to do it myself, I'm a happy camper :D
I also did look at it and its on top like usual. Went to Target and got some 100% anti freeze and when
the engine has set from driving I'll take out the old and put in the new. The old was 50/50, I'll save
it for refills if I ever need it or someone else needs it, cause its only a year old. Sounds like Barbie
is having the nicest weather, think I could handle 80 about now.

DANG! I've been thinking Sunday all day today! Actually, I am happy, as I now have one more day to live than I thought I had! It must be a "SUE" thing, as the other Sue made the same booboo last week!

Good thinking about RABBITS, Barbie! I hope I remember tomorrow, too. I forgot this month, and it was rough for a while. All's well now, however. My friend, Kathy, and her grandson are coming over this afternoon to spend the night and roast marshmallows over the campfire tonight. YIPPEE! Orion is taking a nap on the pull-out sofa bed, so I have a bit of free time---not that I need it for anything, as I have to stay right here. We have had a fun morning. I just love to watch those little hands explore, and that expanding mind blossoming into a genius! I could have babies all my life and be very happy.

Our weather is superb here....81 degrees, no humidity, and a 20-30 mph hour steady breeze keeping everything downright cool. And those nasty storms that hit Ohio and southern NY missed us completely up here. I love my mountain home.
