Turning my home into a SOLD!!!! house ...

Postby Getupngo » Tue Jun 19, 2012 10:57 pm

Sigh. The painter came today and spent the day erasing all evidence of me -- all the color -- from my house. It's being de-Janicified in order to become acceptable to potential buyers. Makes me really sad.

Whilst the painter busied himself turning my home into a house, I got a couple of things done. I went to the state parks & rec office and got fingerprinted for my security check. I needed that done so I can camp-host at Wasatch Mountain State Park this summer after I list my home. I also took on a big overgrown bush in front of my house. I have bridal veil bushes on both sides of my front porch. I did the smaller one a few weeks ago, and took the clippers to the bigger one today. Felt good. Looks good.

On Monday, the carpet cleaners will do the stairs, family room and roomie's old bedroom. So new goal is to get the downstairs -- including the nefarious laundry room -- done by the weekend. The non-laundry room area is 90% done. The laundry room still has a little ways to go. After that is done, all that will remain are the garage and a shed, which contains tents, campstoves and stuff.

It is happening. And I'm sad.

I know that sad feeling Janice, last couple times I visited my cabin I just cried cause I knew I wouldn't be
able to go there anymore and it wasn't going to be mine anymore. I could have kept it, it was paid for
but I chose not to.

You will reach a point eventually when you feel free rather than sad. Just think of the adventures ahead of you.

You are where I hope to be soon. I am holding off on painting and replacing my deck. I have a tractor for sale and want the option of giving my buyers the money if it takes this to close the deal. Last night I had two friends over for salad and lambrusco. One of them kept walking around and looking at my house (she's been in it many times) and I could tell she was thinking. She and her mother live in side by side condos that are owned by her brother. She finally said 'this house would be perfect for mom and me'. Her mother is 85 and it would take a big chunk of her money to buy it but as Shirley said 'she plans to leave it to her' (she takes care of her). She wouldn't want the furniture so I would have an estate sale.
As for the sadness, I don't think I'll have it for this house...I still miss the one I built (I was general contractor) when my husband and I were together. I have to drive past it when I go to Searcy (where we lived)...He is still in it. Janice, just keep thinking of getting up each day to a new adventure and friends to meet up with.

I don't know if it's the house itself she'll miss, but the "depersonalizing" you are supposed to do to get one ready to sell. (I watch HGTV!!!!) You are supposed to paint all neutral (read dull) colors, take ipictures down etc. I think I would not like that if i was getting ready to sell, but I guess if I really wanted to I would do it. It would be like living in someone else's house! Wendy

Sheila, Wasatch Mtn. SP is near the Homestead in Midway, so it's still fairly close (and out of the valley pollution). Wasatch Mtn. is a quiet park that has an interesting combination of a golf course and extensive ATV trails. I don't want to be at a party park like Jordanelle again.

I love Millcreek Canyon ... it's only about 5-10 minutes from my house. I'm glad Larry enjoyed a nice day outdoors in that beautiful place. Isn't it great to have these mountains right at our doorstep?

I'll see you when Laura gets into town. We'll see whether you can get away for a nice lunch or dinner, or we can bring takeout to you and Larry. It won't make a difference whether I'm still in town or already started camp hosting. I'll be there.

Note to Ana: I'm not there yet!!! (pant! pant!)

Been there Janice many years ago but it's a really nice park as I recall..there was a family reunion at the Homestead and we opted (expense wise) to stay at the campgrounds...I doubt that we will make it back to Millcreek as much as we would like to take him he has failed so much that once again we are on watch with the nurse saying not much time ...
didn't know that Laura was for sure coming up here looking forward to seeing you both

I can't figure out why you have to totally depersonalize but have done it also. Hate it. So feel for you Janice.

Sheila I was so glad to read when you took let out and so sad to read now that he's again downhill. My love and heartfelt wishes to you.

It baffles me too Beth, but if you watch HGTV and listen to the really stupid things buyers will say, you see why it's necessary. One show the woman didn't like the house because of the woman's Americana teddy bear collection! Like those were staying with the house! .

Sheila, so sorry to hear Larry is going downhill again. My heart goes out to you. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you through this.

I am so glad I am not having to paint all my walls a neutral color. Depending on the decor that was in that room, the walls could be yellow with stencils, dark olive green with a floral border or with wall paper for a Victorian look and to cover up Grandkids crayon mural. So glad Matt has never said anything about me painting.

Like Kellie said, some of the possible buyers are really dumber than bricks!!!

I can understand taking out a lot of furniture cause with less furniture a room looks bigger. But to take everything out or put all of it in storage makes no sense. Unless the realtor is hoping that the buyer will forget that the house belongs to someone else until they buy it? I can't not get over the fact that someone will not buy a house because a room is painted in a color they don't like. That it's not their style, it's ugly or that the curtains don't match the furniture that they will put in. Excuse me? The curtains weren't bought for your furniture! Ya buy a house cause it's a good deal, has X number of rooms/bathrooms, yard size, location or any other reason personal to you. Paint you change. Wall paper you change. If the house is the size you want and need then do your own thing and change it to fit/suit you and yours. Sheesh, people!!!

But Echo, if you ever watch House Hunters on HGTV, you will see that some people really can't see past wall color or American kitsch or an ugly lamp. Look at the bones, people!

totally agree with the sentiment that we don't understand ...they say to go neutral but if the new buyer doesn't like neutral they will still have to paint
totally think it's stupid but they have everyone buying into it so we do it
as to my husband its been a slow decline downhill for weeks maybe even months ...when we took him up the canyon it was with his son picking him up and putting him in the car then into the chair and then reversed when he was tired out ...he is now in bed pretty much non responsive we will get him to mouth I love you and that is about it isn't even sleeping just laying there looking up at the ceiling...the nurse has said she doesn't think he will last 24-48 hours ....we will see he has out lived all of these predictions but then his vitals were up and now they aren't he was getting up and going to the table for ensure or meds not any more and he was getting up to go to the bathroom doesn't anymore so it's still a waiting game but with more to back it up...we are doing ok not sure what will happen when it happens but for right now am holding on
thanks for your concerns, thoughts and prayers
