I used Brightside Interlux polyurethane marine enamel. It's a little on the pricey side - $40 Cdn per quart - but it's worth it. The Boler took 3 coats (not quite 2 quarts of each colour).
I used a "roll and tip" application method where you use a small foam roller and roll on the paint in about a 2" square area, and then you run a small brush (I used a 1" foam brush) over the rollered part to "tip" the paint. It leaves brush streaks in the paint, which then fill in. It's quite slick how the paint smooths out and forms a glossy hard shell.
I'm really thrilled with how it turned out.
