It's time for Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Before I reseasoned it, I baked the cast iron frying pan for over four hours in my over, starting high and lowering the temp as I went. Followed instructions from a cast iron collectors association.

Then I reseasoned it and baked it again, but not quite as long. It is really fine and cooks great with no change in flavor. What I had thought was rough iron was actually burned on stuff, and it all came off.

It was a drastic move, I know, and I won't ever do it again, or will need to do it again. It actually originally belonged to my uncle's grandfather, and then given to my father and then me. I told my kids, after I am gone if they don't want it, to give it to my cousin's children. They suggested I just buy something new, like a set of LeCreuset cookware!! Shows you what they know.

Judy, our kids just don't get it! When I pass, I don't know that any of my girls would realize a really well seasoned cast iron pan is irreplaceable. I also have the little forms that you bake your cornbread in and makes little corn ears. Love those too. I imagine they will go with me too. I really looked for those because I remembered how great they were when I was a kid.

Tyler's expression pretty much expresses the last few days. I woke up early this AM remembering sweet dreams about being somewhere beautiful in my new RV. Wish I could remember what the RV looked like and what kind of rig it was. This morning I was actually able to take Tyler for a walk after finally passing the kidney stone that has been torturing me for the last 5 days. No coffee for me...lots and lots and lots of water.

OUCH Red! I sure do hope you will have no more of those stones in the future! Tyler is beautiful, but he sure does express how you must have been feeling recently! Glad it is over for now!

I LOVE my cast iron. Have 5 skillets in different sizes plus a round flat griddle. I wouldn't make pancakes on any other surface. I also scraped my last two down to bare iron and reseasoned them. I got them at a St. Vincent's store and wanted to make them 'mine'. I'm always on the lookout at thrifts stores for the real heavy old ones. The new ones do not compare.

Love the pictures of the furry kids and the Alaska blogs. Someday (maybe).

Well, we're heading to the RVW rally at Winchester Bay this weekend, leaving early tomorrow. It's pretty close to us, probably an hour drive towing the CRV. Can't wait to see our RV friends. Over 40 women have signed up for this weekend even though it's Fathers' Day Sunday. And it's the weekend of the chainsaw (log, not ice) carving contest which should be very interesting. Hoping to come home with a little bear stump if they're not to expensive. The RV park is on a peninsula that is protected from the ocean but surrounded on 3 sides by water.

Have a great weekend everyone

I use my dutch ovens a lot while camping, not so much the skillets yet.
