It's time for Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

It's time for Thursday

Postby Echo » Thu Jun 14, 2012 6:00 am

GOOD MORNING SISTAHS!!!!

Holy smokes, where is everyone??? Can't believe that I'm the one opening the coffee room this morning. Well fresh pot just made, ya'll grab a cup. It's a small 4 cupper so if it runs out someone will have to make another one! I don't keep a big coffee maker around anymore.

Went to bed late last night cause I took a nap yesterday afternoon. Was only gonna sleep for a little bit but???? Yeah right, I was down for a little over 4hrs. So needless to say I was in no way tired and did not want to go to bed. ~sigh~ I bet by golly I will tonight!

Nothing other than work planned for today. I work 9-3 today and Kelly has to be at WalMart at 9-6. So will drop her off and then scoot to the park. Poor Shade gets left home to hold the fort down. She's a brave puppy and can handle the job.

Hope everyone has a terrific day, that they do lots of fun stuff and sees amazing things. All the while staying safe of course! ;)

Love to all

GOOD MORNING ECHO AND ALL!

6:00 am is a bit early for me and Molly and Dinah these days! So now I am up and around with hot coffee again. The dogs have eaten and had their round-abouts of the yard.

Yesterday I finished removing the books off my shelves, vacuuming them and sorting them. I still have a massive amount I wish to keep, but even more to sell/giveaway. The living room is full of bins of stuf now. Today I need to vacuuming the shleves and get out stuff from underneath the shelves. Next I go around the fireplace and back to my computer station, which I have already gone through and dusted. Then it will be time to tackle the steel cabinet full of 78 records. After that, the living room should be mostly destuffed. The kids come back tomorrow to help lift and move all the stuff to the basement room temporarilly until we get a new floor installed in there.

Lowes finally brought my new washer and got that installed with no problems. They also took my 35 year old one away, and I bid it a fond Adieu----it went through three kids and mucho company and was worked to its limit most days for all that time. This new one will be lucky to have such a record.

Late afternoon found me taking a Twisted Tea break out in the screen room, when I noticed I needed to mow again----which I did...I have a bit to finish up today down by the barn, and that will be that for another few days.

I also need to make time to walk the dogs today...am still waiting for the zapper replacement collar to arrive in the mail so I can try out the dual remote system on walks in the deer-infested woods. In the meantime, I found another zapper remote so will try using two today---pain in the neck to remember which is which, should I need a warning. The new system has both a warning sound and a vibration which can be used without any actual zapping, and both dogs are on one controller separately. It got down to 35 degrees here last night, and I am so hoping that the deer flies got killed or fooled into dropping like flies! :)

Off I go. Hoping everyone has a good day wherever you may be.

Happy travels!

Echo, I think when our dogs and cats are really a member of the family we feel guilty leaving them. I always kiss Rudy and assure him I love him and won't be gone long..he still gives me that sad look
Soos, all that work and swimming, do you have an ounce of fat on you? I doubt it.. 35 years for a washer does seem like a record. Did you buy the same brand? Maybe they will put you in a commercial..
No doubt you might get a pretty penny for some of those records...Tell us more about your dad being a radio man..
My poor arm (from my fall 2 days ago) looks even worse today if that's possible. I'll be wearing 3/4 length sleeves for another week I'm sure. I have alot of work started in my yard that I must finish but I will start wearing proper shoes and watching where I step closer. I hope I have inherited my mother's bones (she fell numerous times on her hip and never broke a bone) but I don't want to test them.
I started my coffee at 4:30 this morning, had a cup then fell back asleep so this warmed over brew is not worth offering but I would start another and might even fresh squeeze some OJ. Yesterday I bought a preseasoned cast iron skillet (took my old one to the consignment store, silly me) so I can start making Fritattas The best ones I've had were made in an iron skillet. Southern friend chicken is also best in an iron skillet.

Echo, hoping you and Kelly have a great day. I am sure Shadow will hold down the fort just fine.

Soos, I need to mow too. Thinking I will get that done today. Tomorrow is supposed to be really hot again and yesterday the grass was wet from rain.

I gave my years old cast iron skillet years ago when I got my ceramic top stove. Was afraid it was too heavy. Missed it for too many years. I have another one now on it's way to being perfectly seasoned and it is definitely going with me when I get the MH. Makes the best corn bread too. Nothing makes better corn bread dressing than this. X2 on the fried chicken, pork chops and gravy, French fries, fried okra, squash, etc.

Still have not made it to the store. Cannot make myself leave yet. I need to go, so will try to talk myself into it again today. Went late last week to take Chuck off all the bank accounts and put the girls on as beneficiaries. It was devistating. Still need to take him off the insurance and cancel his cell phone. Not ready for that yet.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

You guys talking about your cast iron skillets reminds me of when I almost shot my exhusband. He decided to "help" me by doing the dishes after breakfast one morning and he put my beautifully seasoned skillet into soapy dish water to soak. Then he decided to put my other three cast iron pans in to soak as well. Took me forever to get those babies reseasoned.

I love my cast iron skillet! It is 100 years old, and came from my father who used it often to cook outdoors and indoors. I did take drastic action this winter and stripped it down to the bare metal with a dozen coats of oven cleaner because it had some really rough areas that turned out to be merely decades of burned-on stuff. Once I got it down to grey metal, I reseasoned it, and it turned out great. It was a lot of work, but really did turn out to be the right decision.

I was told the old pans are better because the iron mixture was different before the 50s. Mine is so smooth inside it is almost shiny and it cooks without sticking. It is definitely going with me in my RV. Now, what I really need is a lid to that old pan so I will keep my eyes open for an old one.

Got another good night's sleep and got up fairly early, at least for me. Got to finish packing the china stuff today and the clothing I will put into storage. Tomorrow I am renting a car and running some errands, including getting a haircut and some more Rubbermaid bins. I think I will be able to drive with my foot by then since it is doing so well. (Other than the couple of times I have bumped it! Ouch!)

Big worry is keeping RV stuff separate from storage stuff, so getting some red tape from Michaels tomorrow also. Hopefully, my son will put RV stuff in his car so it won't even go into moving van.

Good morning friends! I'm not much of a cook, but I also love my iron skillet. We got it a wedding present from my stepbrother (in 1967!) Karen, my husband put ours in the dishwasher. let me tell you, Casacde really does a number on them! See Dawn, one day soon I hope you tpp will be able to tell "funny husband" stories"! He also put dawn in the dishwasher once, think I told that story here once! I am off in a little while to Miss. (Mississippi, Soos!) to make my very small contribution to the casino! But it's a nice little 24 hr mini vacation, then probably off to the lake for the weekend tomorrow when I get back. Have to check with one son and see if they're going, other is on vacation in Mrytle Beach still( without Mom!) Echo, be sure and tell me how Kelly likes Walmart. I worked there for 18 plus years and left as an assitant manager. Lots of changes have taken place in the company since I started. Everyone have a safe and fun day. Wendy

Tyler's expression pretty much expresses the last few days. I woke up early this AM remembering sweet dreams about being somewhere beautiful in my new RV. Wish I could remember what the RV looked like and what kind of rig it was. This morning I was actually able to take Tyler for a walk after finally passing the kidney stone that has been torturing me for the last 5 days. No coffee for me...lots and lots and lots of water.

I will tackle the file cabinet today. It is a big black 4 drawer metal file cabinet (the big, deep one) in the closet upstairs. When I left Hawaii I did not even open it. Just had the movers put the thing in the crate for the sail across the Pacific, then told the movers here in TX to put it in the closet upstairs. It has all the documents covering 32 years of my marriage. All tax returns (with supporting docs, property deeds, escrow docs for every property, wills, trust docs, insurance stuff, etc. etc. etc. 90% will be shredded. However, I have to go through each doc to make sure it isn't something I need. Something I have put off for the past 2 years. But if I want the freedom of the road, I have to shed myself of all the excess baggage.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

good morning ladies
slept until the alarm went off, but I suppose that was cause I stayed up late trying to
watch Dallas, but then dosed off near the end.
Eye appointment this morning so only a tall cup of coffee so I don't end up in the chair
and then have an emergency. Looking forward to being able to see properly again. Gonna
get photogrey lenses this time cause the sun really hurts my eyes. The lenses are fully
covered on my vision insurance and they give me 150 towards frames so will have to
pick out the cheapest over 150 or hopefully I'll find some that are even less. The eye
doctor is around the corner from work so I'll probably stop by and pay a visit. Called
them yesterday and told them I'd be ready to come back for the July summer school
session if she could find an assignment for me. Course I'll have to get my doctors
release but I don't find that to be a problem, my face is about 90% healed. Don't know
if it will ever be 100% but once I get my vision corrected I should be able to do my job
safely. The disability insurance is waiting on an update letter from the neurologist.
Originally they thought I would only miss the two weeks of work so they don't want
to reimburse me for lost wages in June. Waiting to see what happens with that, in
the meantime I can't sit around with no money, gotta get back to work. July 9th is
when I go in.
Got the a/c fixed in my car yesterday, thanks to a/c guy son knows. The system got
tested, its not leaking but it had too much in it. Don't understand that part, how
did that happen? No body worked on it except the guys that did the timing chain.
Nobody wants to fess up that they tried to charge my system. The a/c guy said
sometimes service places will rip you off by doing that and then you have to
bring it in for repair.
Ok, time to get dressed and get a few chores done before I go.
Ya'll have a great day and be safe.

ACK!! for the cast iron catastrophes! Oh Nancy I bet you are sorry you gave up your old skillet for a new one, but you made some consignment store shopper very happy. The new ones are very different than the old ones, food has a very different taste & like Judy said, the material used now days is not the same. Karen I bet you never forgave your husband for his wash job. And then Judy gives me another 'oh my' moment when she said she cleaned her skillet with oven cleaner eeekkkk Judy, cast iron is porous and absorbs the cleaner. I know you can read online that people do that but it is not safe. That is why I won't buy old cast iron if it looks like it has just been re-seasoned unless I know the person who owned it. Dawn glad you found another and now have it almost as good as old!

I was hoping to go on a weekend camp out with our church tomorrow but after being lovely and cool all week it's going to be mid-nineties and humid for the weekend, so that cancels my plan :( Seems like the weather and I just can't get coordinated!

I had a really bad dream last night and I'm attributing it to watching Dallas! I was kidnapped and every time I thought I had been rescued it turned out they were also bad guys.I am very tired this morning! Did anyone else think Dallas was just too confusing to follow? I was looking forward to it but doubt I will watch it again.

I was so happy to see the AK group was able to move on and sure hope they find Nan!

Morning!
Coffee is especially welcome this AM! Can't believe that it's mid June and my RVs furnace is running! Could see my breath when I walked the dog.

Met a nice couple from Ontario in a class B that he bought (just the shell) and did the inside to their liking. He said he added lots of storage. They have been on the road for a month and have another month to go. They have visited all US states except HI. (not all on this trip) Also RVed in Europe.

Seems so many of you gals are busy downsizing. Such hard work both physically and mentally.

My Mom used her cast iron fry pans every day. With 9 of us kids I recall 3 of the 4 stove burners fryng chicken or some other meat. The other burner generally held a huge pot with potatoes boiling.

Glad those of you recovering are steadily getting better.
Hope Kelly's new job goes well.

BJ, Dallas was confusing to me too. I got started watching it late so don't know how much I missed. All the younger women looked alike to me. Everyone was trying to swindle everyone else.

Getting a shower for the second time today. After 4 1/2 hours mowing, I have our yards done and Mom's yards. Matt was out here today with a couple other people. They went down behind the stock tank to see the land behind that fence. We haven't used any of that land since we had cattle. Our fence goes across a creek back there and it was too hard to keep goats in from there. Didn't need them getting under the fence and making their way to the road that I cannot see from here. I saw they were all in shorts. I would have been in jeans and boots to go down there. Too many snakes down there. I guess they did OK. Was still mowing when they came out that gate down at that end of the property and drove by. Waved. He called saying his banker wanted to know if I have a survey. I don't remember ever getting one, but will go through old file drawers to see tonight. Did call and give him the names of the surveys on file at courthouse. If I cannot find a survey, I guess they can request a copy. The surveys are more than 50 years old I imagine. Land has only changed hands a couple times that I know of. Shower should be good and hot.
