Moving crew is coming ...

Postby Getupngo » Sat Jun 09, 2012 4:55 pm

Most of you know I have been circling the drain for months (years?) on selling my house. I tend to get sucked into in a vortex of indecision, i.e. "I can't do this because I have to do that first." :o One of those "thats" was how I was going to get certain pieces of furniture out in order to show the house. Then I thought about renting a storage unit and hiring the muscle to do that initial step.

So I found this local company that offers wall-to-wall moving services -- the moving and the cleaning afterward. They provide two guys and a truck with dollies, blankets, etc. for about $58 an hour, 3 hour minimum. The two-person cleaning crews are $38 an hour. Very reasonable. I scheduled the movers for Monday morning and then rented a storage unit.

For the last several days I've been packing, tossing and taking gobs of stuff to Goodwill in my little ATV trailer. The movers will take all but the few pieces I will use to stage the house.

The more boxes I have packed to move by Monday morning, the better. But I don't have to get it all done by the time they get here (and I likely won't). They will take what is ready, and I can continue to pack, donate and haul stuff to the dump until I'm done. After that, the cleaners will do their thing, I'll put out a few things to make the place look homey and we're done.

I have a volunteer gig almost finalized at a state park about 40 miles away. So once I sign up with the agent and hand her the key, I'll get in the MH and leave -- while still close enough to check in on the house.

My future plans? I don't know and don't care that I don't know.

Wonderful! Must be nice to be nearing the end of your packing. I will be done by next Saturday because my movers will be coming also.

I like your plan. Sounds so much easier than what I am tackling. I don't have a clue yet as to where I am going to go first either and I am not worried about it either. When the time comes, I will figure it out.

Wow, Judy. You are doing great too. I will be glad when I can see the end date and know when I will be hitting the road. I kind of figure in about a month, maybe a little longer.

Good for you Janice...It is a hard decision but when it's made all seems so peaceful. Several of us are in the process in different stages. Let's stay in touch and keep holding each other up and there will be times we will need to be physically held up because of exhaustion, but just sitting down, logging on and posting our day and it's emotions as well as progress will be encouraging.
I went to look at Jayco trailers and I am 95% sure I have made a decision to buy a trailer. I like the White Hawk ultralite. My F150 will handle the one I like. It's 27',30' including hitch. The 29' had a wonderful closet and shelves second slide but I would be pushing it with weight and I don't need all those clothes and shoes anyway. I will get a Honda generator for RV's. They are very quiet I've been told. My son will be such a help. He traveled in his job before getting married and knows 5'ers and trailers and what is needed and necessary in pulling.
Since I want to sell my house furnished I am not doing that much packing yet. When my mh sells I will buy the TT and start putting the pad at my son's. I will also buy the storage building and start putting the things that aren't included with the furnishings. I want to be all set when the house does sell. I'm not holding my breath on selling right away but I can make a trip or two while waiting.
It seems we all have our own game plans. Of course flexibility is always necessary when trying to make all things come together in the right time frame.
We must plan a GTG later to celebrate a job well done!

Nancy, your news on the trailer sounds great ... and I'm glad we're in this house selling thing "together," as it were.

I laughed about your "I'm selling the house furnished" -- like the time moving furniture isn't just 5% of the work. (Although I'm moving that stuff with my index finger -- "put that over there, no, over there instead!")

In regard to your trailer choice, I suggest you closely look at the one with more closet space. My class C had those little skinny closets on either side of the bed, and itsy little drawers underneath. Well, when I was on the road for months at a time, those just did not cut it. Wardrobe capacity was #1 on my list with the next rig. So think about how much traveling you will be doing at a stretch. Count up the number of pairs of jeans and/or shorts, t-shirts, jackets & such you will likely use. Picture where you will put them.

'Nuff said.

I second Janice!!!

You can never have enough storage!!! I'm betting that you will figure out a lot of things that can make a home in a big closet!!!

Well, the moving guys are coming tomorrow morning. I have run out of boxes ... all my trash cans are full ... so I'll just have to make a path for the brawny boys to carry furniture out of the house. Ha!

I drilled down far enough in the basement to find a couple of old steamer trunks that belonged to my late DH. They're both locked and I don't have the keys. They could be full of money ... or laundry.  Either way, they belong to his kids (long story ...) so I'll ask the brawny boys to put them in my ATV trailer and I'll take them to my stepdaughter. Hope she's a good lock-picker.

I have a few pieces of furniture that are going straight to Goodwill, so I'll have the guys load them last. Then we can run by Goodwill and then to the storage unit.

Then I'll ask them to help me load my 450-lb., won't-start scooter onto a trailer for me to take to the shop. That's worth the price of admission.

Yes! It comes furnished. With all the c^ap too. I'm workamping right now and every time I go home I hate it. I'm so delighted to get back to my real home (RV). I wonder what the message is there...?

Glad to hear you're making progress. As soon as I grow a pair, I will too.
