Hello!

Come on in and say hello.

Hello!

Postby teachergal » Sun Apr 22, 2012 4:39 pm

Hi all! :-)
I'm excited to have found this forum! After years of dreaming and renting I bought my 1st RV in March! :-) "Roxy" is a PleasureWay Plateau - class B, camper van, built on a Sprinter. My parents have a 36' County Coach diesel pusher and they winter in Naples, FL and they found my rig down there so I had to fly down and get it and drive it back to the Washington DC area - 1,000+ miles! Other than that trip I've only taken her out one other time - last weekend I took her to Shenandoah National Park for the weekend! I'm a teacher so have summers off and that's my primary travel time, I'm planning on heading north to Maine this summer! I'm also planning many weekend trips close by, there are so many National Parks, State Parks, and National Forests to explore right in my own backyard!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone! :-)

Welcome "teachergal". When you feel comfortable, would be nice to have a name for you :) But no hurry - I understand it can take time to get comfortable with everyone on a new forum.

Sounds like with your parents help, you're well on the way to doing this. And, if you want to get your feet wet quickly in this group, there are a couple ladies meeting at a KOA near you in a couple weeks. They'd love to have someone else join them. If you look in the GTG room - you'll see a gtg for the Charleston area - go into that thread and to the bottom of it - as things changed, it got canceled, dates and all changed - but some are reviving it in VA in a couple weeks.

WELCOME Teachergal! Perhaps on your trip to Maine this summer, you can stop by the Adirondacks and stay at my place for a bit! It would be fun to meet you! Check about the Ruckus in The Mountains GTG in the GTG forum, and you can see when the scheduled meeting dates are, but don't worry about that-----come any time if you let me know when to be home!

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

Real name is Melissa!

I looked in the GTG page and didn't see anything about a meetup anywhere near me? Am I missing it? You mentioned Charleston, I saw one in SC but it already happened. I'm about a days drive (at least) from either Charleston - SC or WV.

Nope, no pets! And I'm allergic to both dogs & cats so there won't be any pets! I do have a number of plants, but they don't travel with me! LOL!

Birdby, what did you teach?

I do have a blog all about my RV: http://livininavan.blogspot.com/ Just from browsing the forum I've picked up some of your blogs and am excited to read about your adventures! :-)

I need top figure out how to post pictures in posts here...I see how to do it, just not sure I have any pictures with their own web address, I'll check my stuff stored in Picasa.

If your stuff is stored in Picassa, you should only need to get the code to post in the post to have them host the picture.

It IS the SC gtg - as I said before, it was kind of cxl'd, but then changed - and a few are getting together now near Wash DC in a week or two. Check that thread - go to the end of it - and you'll find that info.

Welcome Melissa. Where in northern va? I'm north of Baltimore by about 25 miles, so perhaps we will get chance to meet at some point in time. Im not a teacher, but have my gd who is stillin school, so most of my travels are during the summer too. However, her dad lives in Houston, so I'll be heading west this summer again. I know...summer in Houston is crazy!!! But what's a grandmother to do?

Beth, I have figured out the photos - will dump everything in Picasa 1st - It just didn't show up when I hit "preview" so that's what I was unsure, as soon as I actually posted I knew I'd done it right!

I'm in Woodbridge, VA - it's about 20 miles south of DC along I-95. MD is on my "weekend trip" list!

Melissa, I taught in special education..part of the time in administrative positions. Our students were more physically and or medically involved. Well those challenged students and the other balance of our students, particularly in the last 15 or so year were those students in the autism spectrum .....particularly those with severe language delays and behavioral issues. :) We worked with a strong team model....with all the creative and talented OTs, PTs, and SLPs.

Hi, Teachergal! I think there are several teachers on this forum. Way, way, way back I taught high school English, but for the last 20+ years I have taught part-time college-level business communication. The last 10 years have been online so even though I am retiring from my regular job designing training, I will continue to teach online as I travel. I also just bought a motorhome, but sounds like you are a LOT more experienced than I am, since I really haven't gone anywhere yet!!

Since I was not teaching in a regular school, i have never had summers off, so I envy you. I've been involved in almost every aspect of training, however, so I still consider myself an educator and teacher. I teach four shortened semesters a year, meaning only one week between semesters, except for Christmas. Never seems to end, but I do enjoy the contact with the mostly adult students I teach. (They email me constantly and have my cell phone number for evenings and weekends.) Teaching for a supportive college really makes a difference, as many colleges are NOT and pressure you to give high grades.

I'm also looking at the GTG schedule, but it looks like nothing quite fits my schedule right now. Maybe next winter in Florida???
