Good for you!! I never found hitching up a problem - it was backing the dang thing. I also had a tool box so had to boost myself up a little to see over it. I got rid of the box when I got the truck camper, and I really don't miss it. If I remember correctly, there is a toolbox that sits lower if you want to be able to see the hitch. One of these days you'll be hooking up by yourself and laughing at the couples who are helping each other - no offense intended to the couples because you are lucky to still have each other.

You go girl!!

we all have regrets over the years. One of my biggest is that I never learned how to tow the 5th wheel...nor have I backed up the truck to hitch up so you are way ahead of me!!! Congratulations!!! you will manage...I had even gotten myself talked into trying to drive with the 5th wheel hitched up and then DH got sick and that wasn't the time to experiment~~ so maybe one day we will see what I decide to do in the future

Oh Sheila,

When the time is right I know you will find a way to learn how to hitch up and go where you want. Right now is just not the right time. Chuck was having a good morning and it just happened. This afternoon was not as good. His oxygen dropped pretty low for awhile before I could get it back up again. No regrets, you hear girl. One of these days you and I will learn how to do all this ourselves and we'll plan a GTG. We seem to be pretty much in the same boat. For today, just enjoy the moments of happiness before the sad thoughts come crashing back in. We are all here for you.

Good for you. With each success you become more and more confident of your ability. Keep it up and you'll be hitching up like a pro.

Just remember this: If a man can do it, it can't be that hard.

I have a bumper pull and used the tennis balls on a stick sold at Wal-Mart or Camping World. I finally splurged last year and got a small camera. It makes hooking up so much easier. I kind of have figured out where the trailer has to be lined up in the rearview mirror. Then use the camera for the final line up.

It's good to be able to do all the chores with an RV whether you solo or not. You never know what may happen and would you want to be stranded because you didn't know how to do what is needed? That has to be a really helpless feeling.

Congratulations !!! You have made a huge start, good for you. The wanting too, is the biggy. Whatever we WANT TO DO, we can, all we have to do is set our mind to it. And you have done that, thats great.

Once you get a tool box that is level with the rails of the truck you will find that it is a whole bunch easier. When I pulled the fifth wheel I would turn the rear view mirror in the truck down so I could see the hitch. Then you can tell whether you are lined up or not and also whether you need to raise or lower the pin. I got pretty darn good at this if I do say so myself. Now backing?? I won't even comment on that. My grandson was traveling with me and was calling ahead to check on site availability in a park. I overheard him say, "and do you have a pull-thru, 'cause my Grandma can't back." Funniest thing, about an hour later when we pulled into that campground - they knew who we were, and announced that they were saving a pull thru for me!

Yea for you Dawn. After awhile it will come naturally. I hitch and unhitch my TT by myself and use the key hole on my TT's front window as a guide for how close to the truck it's getting. That tells me it's close to the hitch and if I look at each side mirror, I should have just so much trailer showing on each side of my truck. I've been pretty lucky as to hitching up by myself. And I don't have a backup camera either. I guess we all get a feel for what works right for us.

Wow I needed to read this, I haven't done what you have been brave enough to do
But I know I can do it. Have you tried backing up yet??
