I remember the 25 cent gas too. I also was raised that if you didn't have the money for it, you didn't get it. We were super poor but got through it somehow which helped me appreciate how to save & wisely spend a dollar. I really don't understand this attitude of gotta have it now....I deserve it...don't understand filing for bankruptcy because you just didn't want to have to pay those bills that you ran up....cause you had to have whatever 'now'....Seems people don't want to be responsible for themselves & their decisions anymore, cause someone can do it for them or the government will .....
I bought my RV used & am blessed that I have it, I drive a 20 yr. old car and I love it & will keep driving it till it's more expensive to fix than to replace. It's a Lexus & has been a great car. All of my family members have newer cars & the monthly pymt that goes with that & they tease me .... why don't you buy a new car...yada, yada....well, because mine runs fine & is paid for....which gives me the option of being able to help my Grandkids go to college, have a place to live, few $$$ here & there for food or school supplies....those days when I was young taught me alot and I use those lessons every day. Nope, don't get my nails done (c'mon...I'm 74..who cares), don't have a knock down closet full of clothes...however, I do wear jeans every day....(the ones on Sale at Kohl's or wherever) and I have a few pair of shoes....What I have is all I really need and I'm content because my bills are paid on time & my RV is there if I need to run away (close to home is fine....nice parks not too far away)...gas prices...well, they're ridicules $4.29 for regular....so I won't travel so much or will save what I can to make a future trip. I guess my post is just to say we all have our priorities & are doing our best to have a good life, be a good friend, treat others with respect & love all that we can & for many of us to have a God that we believe in & ask for guidance....I wish the best for all of you...keep your dreams alive however you can....

Plain and simple..Stupidity breeds Stupidity! I cringe at how some of the children in my family are being raised. We offered to put my nephew (who we adore) to work in the pet store after school and on Saturdays. He lives in a dysfunctional family, finances in a shamble, no drugs thank goodness, but my blood pressure rises at the thought of what they are instilling in him. His mother hates animals and it is looking like he is beginning too also. He has begged his entire 10 years for a dog but no dog is going to be in that household. There was one for awhile, my brother's dog, and she let it lie tangled in it's tether in the hot sun and die. There are problems ahead and I'm afraid very severe ones but I pray and spend time with my nephew teaching him in subtle ways so I don't get in trouble and that's all I can do.

Not having to do with gas prices but with the greed subject. Mitch, your comment reminded me of the people who would come into the money center at Walmart, cash a welfare check and then go next door to the nail salon and get there nails done, while talking on the latest cell phones!
