I got the 16Gb Black Verizon at WallyWorld for $529. Be careful at Wallyworld - two stores told me an iPad could handle either internet provider, which is not true. They are specific to either Verizon or AT&T.

I LOVE it already. It's beautiful. Except (shut up, Vickie), the fingerprints on the screen could make me crazy...(again, SHUT UP!)

The books are going to be SOOOO much easier to read than on my little iPod Touch.

What version did you get? The New iPad or is it iPad 2?
Wonder what the difference, if any, in the ATT v Verizon data plan? Cost wise.

It's a 2 and therefore, $100 less @ $529.

I know AT&T and Verizon were very close, with AT&T SLIGHTLY leading Verizon in no-contract cost. However, the Verizon had better coverage and somehow (i'll find out for sure) works in some places in Canada. Don't know about AT&T, nor do I know what it means in terms of cost (or eating away at my prepaid balance.)

BUT, there was an option available to me after i bought it - the $20/1/30...I saw that advertised nowhere on the internet.

I went with ATT for a couple reasons, none to do with coverage.
A. Their store is close and I have had to deal with them before and I always get good servive.
B. at the time I bought the iPad I wasn't sure on how the data plan worked and my iPhone is ATT.

The ATT data plan is simple. Order it right on the iPad. $25 a month and I used it allot and never used all the units or whatever it's called, and it's easy to cancel although they do not refund if you cancel before the month is up. And when the month is up they do not rollover any remaining time.

I have the IPad 2 also...but mine cost more as I got a lot of memory....I was told too that it didn't matter which one you bought (AT&T ro Verizon)...so the first one I got was AT&T...well when I went to set up service AT&T told me I couldn't have Verizon service, had to have AT&T service...I was not happy....took it back for exchange but they didn't have a Verizon one....(maybe that's why they gave me the wrong infor. when I first bought it)...had to look all over to find a Verizon one (I was at my daughter's in Palos Verdes)...so Kelly got on the internet & found one finally at Fry's 25 miles away...she called & asked them to put it on Hold for me, as they only had 2 left and they did...My son in law drove me there & we bought it. I did talk to AT&T about their plan before I took it back....as I remember it wasn't as good as the Verizon one...that was back around Jan. 3rd or so....things might be different now. Either way, I think they are competitive. Oh...the other thing I found out is if you're going to cancel service, you have to contac them from your IPad otherwise they keep billing you on your credit card. I thought that as I'd odered one month service for while I was out of town that I'd automatically only pay for one month...not so as when I checked my Visa statement in Feb. I was charged again so I had to set up my IPad again & cancel it that way.

When my data plan is about to expire I get a dialog box pop up tp let me know and it also asks if I want to renew or extend or some such. I forget now. The last time I had a data plan was last summer.
I also got the one with the most memory. Didn't want to chance that that would become an issue later on.

What prompted my inquiry was this email that was sent to me by Verizon. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/spla ... -03-DEVICE There seems to be a lot of options. A friend reminded me that my NookColor would do just about as much as her iPad does if I can get connected more to Wi-fi.

Great comments and opinions so keep them coming, I'm still doing my homework.

If you already have the Nook Color - I'd play with it - as I do understand what your friend says to be true.

Just spent some time with my Grandson who showed me how the camera works (front AND back), how Facetime works (like Skype to anyone who has an Apple product &/or WiFi....and a few other neat things...but the one I REALLY likes was the App that lets you scan barcodes which tells you where the cheapest item is available & how much the prices are.....that one is really neat...He's going back to college in a week so I asked him to stop by & show me some other stuff. He said to go to an Apple store & they will give you further tips & tricks....like connecting to your printer, editing & improving your pics, downloading ebooks & listening to them with your earphones or connecting them to your car/rv speakers & listening that way.....He also agreed that by getting the 64 megs or whatever they're called I can download movies, tunes, etc. & I'll probably never run out of memory. I am sooooo happy I bought this...course that was when I had a few $$$$ and didn't realize I was going to have to buy a new furnace for my stick house, and a few other unexpected surprises to my bank account....one of them being the 'dog' with an attitude....

Everyone's needs and wants are different, but for me I don't think you can compare the ipad to the nook color. First is the screen size. Then the nook's memory is only expandable to 32 GB, ipad, 64. Those two are deal breakers for me.
I believe the nook is wifi only?

I bought an old but new 1st generation iPad on eBay to use as an e-reader. It was less than 200 bucks. I CAN do email and browse the internet with it, but I prefer my iMac for that. I also have an iPhone. The screen is twice the size of the Kindle or Nook and the Kindle and Nook apps work flawlessly on it. I'm very happy with it, it is exactly what I wanted. Susan

My son downloaded Dragon Dictation (free app). Now I can talk my email instead of typing. I need to find out if this will work on other sites. May try to look for an apple store and get some instruction. I need to bring my eldest gs to live with us until I become an iPad expert  carold

For those wondering about data plans, there are several good comparisons on line. All I've read so far indicate Verizon is a clear winner for most people. Here is just one example:

My DH just had an issue with his iPad he suddenly couldn't get off of a page, it was just frozen. He called in his tech person....me  and headed off to the gym. I immediately Googled the issue and poof lots of people must have experienced this so lots of answers. I tried what seemed most logical and easiest of suggestions but I must admit it took me awhile to figure out what the 'sleep' button was but finally decided it must be the on/off button at the top. Here is what cured his problem, and I thank the person who posted this as my DH believes I am a tech whiz

press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Another cool thing I learned from my iPod Touch that works the same on the iPad...

To take a screen shot, press and release the Home Button while holding the sleep button.

The end.
