Reservations Made

Postby kelpie » Mon Mar 12, 2012 11:20 am

Well, I now have reservations made and confirmed at Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Cheyenne Mtn state park. Was going to do St Mary's lake in Estes park but they only take MC and Visa and it was late and I didn't feel like messing with transfer etc. I usually use a Discover for travel expenses. The cg I want near GLacier NP is private and did not have on line reservations so I will call them soon to see if I even need reservation there. I think I'm fine on way out since it will be week nights, one night only at state parks in IL, MO and KS. I'm committed now! :) It did remind me of another reason I seldom make reservations, those darn "fees" they tack on. Somehow, they really bug me!. Bug the good part is, besides knowing I have a spot, is that some of my sites are already paid for, long before I even leave. Anybody been to Mesa Verde NP - do I need a reservation there?

Kelpie, one of the fella on Open Roads Singles, mentioned to me that Jenny Lake Campground somewhere around the Grand Tetons is supposed to be really nice too. I put it on my list to check out. Am going to be following your trip very closely as it's the same thing I am plaanning for two years from now. Please take time to post once in awhile when you have a chance and tell us all about it.

I never have needed a reservation at Mesa Verde, but I can't guarantee that, of course. Sounds like you've got a wonderful trip planned. Enjoy! And take lots of pictures to share!

Kelpie, let me know if I can be of any help with GNP info. West Glacier side is the most beautiful, as it is on the moist side so more greenery, flowers, etc.

Jenny Lake Campground is a very pretty area ...and consequently feels up quickly I don't know if the park makes reservations or not but if you want to use it that would be smart...also I think they only accept hard sided rigs you are in bear country!!! one of my favorite places to go to is just up the lake from Jenny called String Lake and there is a trail that goes around the lake that takes you too Hidden Falls or you can take a boat and get to about 1/4 mile of the falls...The prettiest part of Grand Teton is the inner road if you come out of Yellowstone and take the main road to the left toward Jackson you have in my mind miss Grand Teton National Park Its my home town so if you have questions ask and I'll try to answer...been years sense we have lived there but go home all the time as my Mom still lives in Jackson

Kelpie,

I live in the Mesa Verde area and I wouldn't think you would need a reservation for the campground inside the park, depending on when you will be here. I guess if all else fails and there are no spaces available inside the park, you could always get a spot in Cortez. There are also two campgrounds right at the entrance to Mesa Verde on Highway 160 before you go up the hill to the park. If I can be of any assistance or other information, let me know.

Thanks for all the input/advice. I plan to visit Jenny Lake to hike and possibly take a boat trip but its campground has no hookups and maybe even no showers. I'm really not a boondocker kind of lady. Got a CO guide book in mail today. planning to visit Garden of the Gods and possibly the AF Academy in CO springs. Does anyone if they know if there is RV parking at the academy? Kind of looks like it on their website since they talked about tour bus parking.

There are two campgrounds associated with the AF Academy if you are AD or Retired Military (or spouse).

Thanks, but I am neither. I am staying at Cheyenne Mtn SP, just want to do a quick tour/visit of the Academy.
