My friend in Alaska sent an email with a link to some of the most fabulous northern light pictures.

Yes, i was privileged to see them many times, but this winter they are especially spectacular.

people don't sleep in the Alaskan summers. They did that for 9 months straight waiting for it to get there!

I remember seeing them at our cottage in Michigan at the top of the "Thumb" overlooking Lake Huron so many times when I was a kid. Then a lot of people got yard lights and it was a lot harder, but I remember one night on the way home through farm country, my son and I stopped the car in the middle of a dark road and saw orange, red, green, and purple all over the sky. Wonderful!

I used to see them occasionally when I would go "up north" to northern MN with my mom. I remember one night stopping alongside the road to just watch for awhile. Saw them once while out in my boat on the lake I grew up on just west of Minneapolis. It gets so dark on the lake at night so you can see everything (stars, moon, etc.) so brightly.

I can only imagine how much brighter and more intense they are up in Alaska tho!

I did see them for a week one March when I took my husband to Alaska. The trip was planned for him to see the lights because he had always wanted to see them. It was fabulous. But I had the privilege of living in Iceland for 2 years where they are a nightly occurrence also (just like Alaska but on the Atlantic side) and it was always exciting to me. In fact I was once given extra duty because I was caught staring at the sky instead of walking my post. No problem, the extra duty was a post at an outlying building where no one came around in the middle of December for 4 hours. I had an uninterrupted view with no one to see me stare. Best punishment in my whole life!

Do you carry a blindfold? If you don't your beauty may suffer and no northern lights either.
