Ice Maker Heading To Alaska?

..

George weighed around 160# before he got sick. I have, so far, replaced his weight, in a towing sense, with 1) an inflatable kayak (35 pounds, including seats and paddles) and 2) a Honda generator (37 pounds, including a gallon of gas). That's 76 pounds. I have some left over weight...

Ice maker weighs 25 pounds (dang, didn't remember it being that heavy as when I just now took it down off a high shelf in the garage - I obviously need to start some strength training!).

Right now, I'm running a light bleach solution through it, and also timing how long it takes to make useable ice (not just the first tiny batch).

I calculated the watts (120V x 2.7A = 324W), which will be just fine for the generator...

It just dumped that first teeny batch - 9 minutes.

I can't make up my mind to bring it or not? ? ? ?

I've decided not to bring it. I'll put water bottles in the freezer if I need ice for a small cooler.
My needs are simpler without George.
But I'll bring an ice pick just in case, Kathleen!! :)

Yeah, I was gonna post before you did that I couldn't see any reason to schlep that thing all that way. You'd be hatin' it before you got back home again. Anyone needs ice for one of your special drinks can bring their own.

If I were still going I'd say yes to either yours or mine. I need my ice and really love my little ice maker and it makes so quickly. W/out me I think you will be okay to not take it.

I'm hoping you'll change your mind and then I'd be GLAD to throw it in the van...

I have 4 small ice cube trays in my freezer. Keeps me in enough ice. I wouldn't bring it on a trip where you're moving so much. Staying in one place, I can understand it. And bags of ice aren't expensive to purchase occasionally, if you need more. Just my 2 cents.

JMHO- summers in the great north aren't as hot and humid as you are use to so I would put ice on low priority.

Where did you find ice cube freezers that fit in the rv freezer? Bought some and they would only fit width (?) wise and I thought that they took up too much room

If you aren't going to carry a lot of stuff in your freezer, I would just buy a bag of ice and go that route. There's plenty of ice available all along the way to AK. I carried my stuff in a steel belted cooler cause we weren't RVing on that trip and had plenty of ice all along the way to rplac it when needed. In fact, we could actually buy block ice, which seems to be disappearing around here.

Save the weight to buy stuff while you are traveling. We can't come back with out a new sweatshirt, or jacket or..... maybe a totem pole
